Yes. But can they play football?
Most, really? Some may get that but most is a huge exaggeration. Most 13-17 year older get 12+ with a lot getting 15+

The fact that you say this was a GCSE class makes me think these are teens with on the whole above average level fitness, also I saw your post about playing Saturday football an what not so you are obviously above average fitness so would be able to score high.Did the bleep test 2 years ago for GCSE PE, So this is a group of 16 year olds. I got just over 12 with a calf injury, with the average being around 13. We had a cross country runner getting level 16, a badminton player getting 17 and a boxer getting to level 19! So i dont know where people are getting level 8 from. I did that when i was 11.
Also, i'm pretty sure there was a video doing the rounds of David Beckham completing it, then doing it again immediately after and completing it again.
The test is quite important at the start of pre-season. It is not to build up fitness but to measure how well the players have been looking after themselves over the summer. Of course shuttles and sprints are used in the majority to improve fitness. These improve anaerobic fitness while at the same time boosting basic aerobic fitness which is what the bleep test tests.
