Maybe if we didnt have twats running on the pitch with blue flares then the SAG may be a bit more lenient.

Some of our fans have contributed to this decision
Yep didn’t see any trouble against Sunderland lol
A guy legged it on the pitch
Non issue for me until we sell out why wouldn’t the safety advisory group seek to reduce flash points

What an utterly bizarre take.

Okay, curiosity piqued. What's bizarre about it ? We've got a stadium that is rarely filled and an entire stand that has more empty seats than taken for most games (or that's how it looks). So closing one or two problematic blocks and looking for the fans to move isn't bizarre at all. And before the word "problematic" is focussed on, you have to ask why would the SAG pick those two blocks out of the whole ground if they weren't ?

<incorrect response removed>

I know everyone likes Singers Corner but is there any logistical problems why the North Stand couldn't be where the home fans congregate ? More room, same acoustics. Or is the need to be close to the away fans essential to supporting your team and watching a game of football ?

What's that got to do with closing Block 2 and 3!?
Increases the requirement for considering what stewarding is there
Genuinely what do you think would happen if supporters were next to one another?
And before you answer nothing
Tell me what has happened before when fans were closer

That said there is a supporters forum but the club are not swayed by fans they prefer to agree safety issues with safety experts and the police advice. I know gove would disagree but surely we raise expert opinion rather than john from the pub

Again we are nowhere near selling out so unless you think people don’t bother coming if they can’t sit close to away fans then it’s not a priority surely

No it's not. West Terrace (under the West Stand) was at the opposite end to the away fans at Highfield Road. Much like the North is opposite the away fans at the CBS. The only scenario where your comment is even partially right is if they've extended the pitch length significantly at the CBS.

Not from the mid-90s it wasn't, the away fans were in the corner adjacent to the WT.

Away fans were seated directly to left of the west terrace. At least be factual in trying to defend your argument

They’re a joke, have been for years and only seem to be get worse.

At Huddersfield on Saturday, there was little more than a stair widths segregation between home and away fans and whilst there was a bit of banter as expected, nothing boiled over due to the steward and police presence. The same can be said of many other grounds throughout the country.

I don’t recall seeing any other club being so insistent on thousands of seats being taken off sale. They are even restricting away sales now too. Surely the club and Fraser’s can contest this?

Yeah, we were really close to home fans at Huddersfield on Saturday. Same with the Rotherham fans the other week. All part of the fun.

HR closed in 2005, I was last there 2002ish.

Thought I was. Knew away fans were in that stand at the end of the 80s as my first game was against Millwall. Came away richer than I went in with all the coins they threw at us :) But thought that stand was converted to all home from the mid-90s ??!!

what does that have to do with the blocks in question
I think the reason why the SAG are all over us is because the behaviour of some fans in general - the fighting in and outside the stadium, the people running onto the pitch…how long have you got

They obviously think that blocks 2 and 3 are a potential flashpoint

Whether I agree or not or am right or wrong, there is a reason why the SAG are going what they are doing.

What trouble has been caused by blocks 2 and 3 this season? I think the decision is made as more people that cannot get close to SC have gone in there. They have closed these blocks in case there is a problem rather than there has been a problem.

Yep involved as a kid when Portsmouth and Leeds fans attacked kids it was lovely let’s do that again

The Ricoh has been open nearly 20 years. How many times have away fans breached segregation at either side to attack fans?

None.

Port Vale tried once and got stopped by one police officer.

The simple fact is, they are doing everything they can to move fans further apart. That's fine on paper but completely destroys the atmosphere and limits capacity in popular areas.

I would love more fans to be in the North Stand and think they should do what they can to increase the population in there next season.

However, the atmosphere at the majority of stadiums these days comes from the close sections to the away fans.

The best atmospheres in this league come from those stadiums.

We go away to stadium's every week where fans are stood next to each other. There's not been issues inside a stadium at any away game this season.

At Huddersfield you could almost touch the home fans. No bother and a brilliant atmosphere.

Having a huge gap of segregation allows pumped up kids from either sides to get excited and act up.

Is one way of seeing the decisions being taken under advisement by the club

Atmosphere is great not at the expense of safety I assume most people would agree

Except we have data showing we are one of the safest and most law abiding sets of fans. The last pitch invader came from 24. Shall we all get kicked out too?

To be honest a couple of punch ups with a 20k crowd of mostly drunk men isn’t that bad and if it is could be solved with police presence. The people starting the punchups are just going to do it elsewhere.

How does not selling tickets inblock 14 or blocks 2 and 3 stop a fella running on the pitch from the other end of the ground?

It’s a sliding scale like all H&S though Pete. What’s the cutoff we are looking for? 0 incidents over a season? It’s not possible even if you stopped selling beer and made everyone sit down in silence under threat of expulsion. Barring the Derby game last season where I didn’t like being in that atmosphere with the kids, I’ve never felt unsafe and in reality I wasn’t then either. But it was early after lockdown ended and hasn’t happened since.

Pitch invaders are dealt with harshly and some still decide to do it, always have, just be thankful we don’t get streakers!

I’m not sure what actual safety claims are being made to make this necessary other than one or two incidents over a couple of seasons which seems par for the course.

At the Sunderland game it was noticeable that there was much heavier stewarding than usual in the gap between fans over @1&2. At 2-0 it was clear that the temperature had risen from both sets of fans.
I suspect it’s the cost of stewarding that has become the issue here rather than the perceived threat.
as for moving to the North stand I would have agreed but for my own experience in the early days of the arena. When the sun is out it is very difficult to watch the game with squinting.

If there are a small group of fans misbehaving in Block 14 or any other area of the ground, punish them or give them warnings.

The police and stewards are not doing their job if they are not dealing with anti-social behaviour.

I don't think there's any other industry that treatment of everyone is dictated by the potential behaviour of a small minority. Yet this has driven football policy for decades. 'Take your bottle tops off your water bottles in case you use it as a weapon', 'No flasks in case you're smuggling in alcohol', 'Can't sit within 3 blocks of the away fans in case you attack them'. It's pathetic and it creates more tension.

Let's say we do the unthinkable and are within a point of the play offs before our last home game of the season against Birmingham.

It's would be the most demand we've had for a League game since the Ricoh Return. Imagine the uproar if they limit the capacity.

With half of Singers Corner cut off, 1500 seats blocked off in the away end and now limited sales in Block 2 and 3. There may be 4000+ seats left empty. Shambolic.

Or even worse, we get into the play offs and have to close 15% of the ground because the police/stewarding team cannot do their jobs.

The issue is not atmosphere at the expense of safety though.

The issue is atmosphere at the expense of the perception that there might perhaps one day be a bit of a safety problem, even though other grounds seem to manage without problems despite not having such measures in place.

How far do you take that thinking? People might get injured driving to the ground - better stop selling tickets altogether???

I'll pass thanks!
Why the present twats have fucked up everything they’ve done in the city including the football club. Just look at the City of Culture fiasco claimed and took any plaudits available then take no responsibility for the losses incurred. Put people in charge of it who wouldn’t open the visitors centre. Spend a fortune on St Mary’s Hall surrounded now by piles of rubbish, Spon Street covered in litter, unnesesary road works. How about illegal parking throughout the city, or what about enforcing local bylaws. How about them doing what they’re supposed to do??????

I'm not defending the 'present twats' and won't be voting for them either, but I'm not voting tory!
