Are some really complaining that we didnt finish in the top 6 in the Premier League?
34 years in one division yet not finishing in the top 6 is a poor record. Why just because we are Coventry City is it okay to accept mediocrity at best?
Europe 90% of the time.
Do you think fans of Stoke and west brom are begging for their team to be relegated this season?
We did have a top 6 finish by the way

Which was 46 years ago. That is why we haven't done it for 45 years

If we do get a top six finish now, the downside is that we'll lose what's basically our only trivia claim to fame at the moment.

Ah yeah, that one's ours for life unless they go retro with the divisions at some point.
It would also be interesting to see a league table of the number of clubs experiencing the lowest number of relegations over the last 60 years. I would suspect only a handful would have had less than 2.

Yay....Fuck you Man Utd. with your 20 titles & Liverpool with your 5 European cups.....you've never played in the 3rd division south.....up yours!
One top 10 finish in the last 25 years. And no Grendel and co, only 10 of them were in the Premier League.
So it's one top 10 finish in the last 15 years of Championship and League One. And, still that 8th in the Championship was a bit of a let down - points wise we finished closer to 20th than 6th.
The blog article is about having a winning team, you are missing the point completely.
Championship finishing places:
11th, 20th, 12th, 19th, 8th, 17th, 21st, 17th, 19th, 18th, 23rd
League One finishing places:
15th, 18th, 17th
In the last 15 years we've only finished in the top half 3 times...
..And there is gthe outlier that skews the data.
The record shows that we consistently have nothing to look forward to
No you are missing the point.
The aspiration is to be in the premier league and stay in it. Even Europe qualification outside the champions league is sneered at and fans don't want it. Big clubs see it as a curse and the likes of West Ham treat it as an excercise to play their youth team.
That's it. The vast majority want mediocrity as long as it's top level

Not sure you can sayi finishing 8th skews the data, if we finished 8th we finished 8th even if it was about 20 points off 6th place!
It all makes depressing reading, we would all take prem relegation battles again but the fact of the matter is that we a lightyears away from this place. We had 30 years of that and probably our fans were guilty of taking that for granted given the position we are in now. Our fans crave success in any form, look at Crewe in the JPT a full house in the expectation of winning something. It would make my decade just to even sneak through to the championship never mind win it.
Our current fans are the epitomy of loyal given our last 15 years of failure.
In our last 6 years of the Championship we never finished above 17th. It's almost funny. And we still had 16-18,000 turning up every week even when we knew it was going to be another relegation battle. Coventry City fans define loyalty.
Now that I agree with. What I don't agree with is the mentality of some that we have some right to be up there. Have a right to beat say, Walsall, because "hell, we're Coventry". The Premiership days are long gone and they may not return for a long time, if ever. Regardless of whether it is SISU or anyone else who owns us.
That's why when we finished 8th once we should take it as that, not start making piss poor excuses like "yeah but we were nearer whatever place". We finished 8th.
i see grendel is now avoiding this thread. just cant bring himself to admit he missed the point of the blog.
No the point is crap as it states the fact the club was in the top flight for 30 years is not relevant.
If the club had never been relegated then the article would be laughable as the club would have by definition been one of the most successful in the country for top flight football.[/QUOTE
Forget the Premier League. We still top the 'years since a top 6 finish' even if you take out 30 years. Is this not an issue for you? That CCFC have fallen 2 divisions and yet still can't produce a winning team?
We thought falling into the Championship we'd do something. We never.
We thought even falling into League 1 we'd do something. We never/haven't yet.
Who do you blame Grendel?
