Anyone else checked it out?

Twitter is so grim nowadays, Elon has broken it. so much extreme content on there and the bots are out of control.

Really hoping something can fill the void without just becoming an echo-chamber. You need voices from all sides but with accountability and nobody driving an agenda.

Thing that's holding me back from switching fully is the lack of football and most importantly Coventry content, Hopefully that will pick up soon.

I joined BlueSky over a year ago when you still needed an invite code, but never really used it that often. Deleted my Twitter account the morning after the US election. I said on another thread that Twitter will become the propaganda arm of the Trump Administration. I'm not having any of that. It's a cesspit of right wing nutters, bots and ads. BlueSky is a breath of fresh air. @torchomatic.bsky.social

In another development The Guardian have this morning announced they are no longer using Twitter. Hopefully more serious news organisations will do the same.

Is it just being used as a protest site?

It is going to be really easy for bots and spammers, you can sign up and post without even validating your email address.

Just made one for here, will have a look at the API and see if the new threads can be pushed out to it :)

I don't think so. They have had a million new users in seven days and I can only think that will continue. Someone posted a graph showing user numbers plummeting from Twitter with people deactivating their accounts and switching to BlueSky or Threads. I didn't want to use Threads as it's a Facebook thing.

I've never used threads, I don't see the point in it.
BlueSky seems very comfortable and familiar. It's like Twitter used to be ten years ago when there was moderation and control.

There is a Cov follow list on there now, very handy. Hoping the official and Fan site get on board so I can jettison Twitter

Twitter is a dumpster fire, but I suspect this may unfortunately turn out to be a bit of an echo-chamber like you say. Reddit is a bit like that already, so I can see a situation where you're going to have different social media platforms essentially with political identities and everyone just agreeing with each other.

It will ultimately end up going the same way as Twitter, but may be an improvement for now (I don't use stuff like twitter FWIW)

I need some sort of clever app that will map the accounts I follow on twitter to the relevant accounts on Bluesky because I haven't got the time or the energy to go through the hundreds of accounts and do them one by one.
Haven't used it so can't vouch for it but this has been doing the rounds so might be useful

Let’s be honest, we’ll probably end up with two echo chambers one for the left/liberal and one for those on the right…just what we need, people having their own views constantly re-enforced with no challenge 🤷‍♂️

Not on it much but I genuinely don’t see much hate on my Twitter/X feed….apart from for Doug

As someone who avoids political talk for fear of finding out things I don't want to know about people I like, I don't mind an echo chamber. I want to be able to control what I see on something I choose to engage with and not have crypto twats and dropshipping scams interspersed every three posts, this will probably end up that way as enshittification spares nobody, but I'll enjoy the relative peace and quiet until then

Yeah it is a bit random on only wanting to go on a site where people agree with you.

With Twitter, there's so much shite in the replies from bots and spam.

Thats where I'm at. Feels more and more unavoidable on twitter now. arguments flaring up and bots pilling in the replies magnifying whatever point of view serves the owner best.

Also the amount of unfiltered extreme content that got served up on the 'For you' section since Elon took over is unhinged. I have no interest in that stuff but some old account follow would sell up their log in and I'd suddenly be getting tramp fights or some shit crypto influencer.

I think the main draw of Bluesky is its not owned by a single nutjob that can manipulate the algorithms to their gain

I'm with you 100%. I use social media primarily for music, either vinyl or fellow musicians. I have no interest in debating with people of a different political persuasion and getting into arguments like on here in the summer. Life is too short. I'm more than happy for BS to be seen as liberal/woke/lefty or whatever phrase suits.

I think Twitter will eventually absorb Trump's Truth Social or the other way around.

Twitter was great even five years ago, but the bots, the porn, the disgusting videos people post as mentioned above is too much. Racists given a free reign to spout their nonsense. Don't need it.

I think The Guardian will be the first of many organisations leaving Twitter.

I joined last week. Twitter has become a complete cess pit, and the algorithms are shite, I hardly see anything from people I follow anymore.

The tab at the top following will only show tweets from people you follow. The for you just shows random stuff

Twitter is just horrible. Not even the right wing slant but the for you is now just crypto and porn bots. The buy a blue tick thing has meant the absolute shittest replies are at the top to generate engagement.

I’ve seen some absolutely horrific things as well.

I might be wrong but I don't think that's genuinely the club, they'd have made an announcement somewhere wouldn't they?

Really like Bluesky, loads of Cov fans on there. Twitter is so bleak nowadays, all ads, bots and a pushy algorithm.

Took me a day or two to switch but it's so much better

I saw Weder Bremen announced last night they’re leaving X and moving to this platform. A lot of clubs will follow. x is a horrible place

I think so. Interesting how they specifically said it was due to the right-wing hatred on the site that Musk has allowed to perpetuate.

Yep, Feel like its not the club unfortunately. (Surely they'd use the ccfc.co.uk domain as verification).

Really enjoying Bluesky though, feels like Twitter used to. Just need organisations (such as the club) and news outlets to join and it could be great

It is the club. This is their official English channel. 37K followers. The official German language channel with 540K followers has posted the same statement. They're off. Good for them. A lot more will follow. The trickle will turn into a torrent when one of the big European or English teams follows suit.

They're talking about Cov not Werder

No thanks.

If history has taught us anything its that those who have a problem with free expression of opinion are never the good guys.

I'll stick with Twitter. It might be a cesspit, but at least its an open one
