I was on a coach yesterday and this guy got on. It does feel as though they’re emboldened recently and almost proud of it.

(not England btw… Byron Bay in Aus and he was an Aus local)
That is absolutely nuts

Haha, it is amusing how you try and paint racism (and a bunch of other isms) as "gritty" or "dissenting voices".
The only way you confront and argue down things like racism and suchlike is by seeing it for what it is and arguing against it. At least you know where extremism is, running away from things doesn't fix it. The only thing that does is exposing it for what it is, echo chambers solve nothing they are just a comfort blanket.

They're human beings with as much right to an opinion as you.

If that bothers you, try and change their mind.

Thank you. Someone gets it.

As far as I'm aware you didn't know him. Say what you want on here, but at least don't be disrespectful towards our veterans. We've literally just had Armistice day.

The only one here being disrespectful is you.

You're claiming that our veterans fought to have different opinions silenced.

Is it fuck :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Early days with bluesky but it seems a bit boring.
Could probably do with something in between the two.

A world where everyone agrees with each other is always going to be boring (and stagnant)

Am I missing something here.

So what if Twitter is right wing and Bluesky is left wing.

Isn't this just the same as we have encountered all our lives with daily newspapers?

If you are left wing, you are more likely to read The Guardian and if you are to the right, Daily Mail, Express etc.

I don't go on Twitter/X anymore (haven't been on it since it changed to X anyway).

Going to try Bluesky.

I think the left wing echo chamber thing is well overblown (probably amplified by a desperately scrambling Elon)

Most people want a place they can look at cat pictures and talk to mates without the bots, weird marketing and extreme arguments.

These things have been happening for a few years now

Absolutely. We stay in our own little silos and we probably always have. The difference with BlueSky is feed is pretty impervious to outside influences, where your Twitter feed is constantly assaulted by all kinds of disgusting content, whether you want to see it/have subscribed/followed it or not.

Wow, what a disgrace you are. Trying to claim why people gave their lives. Trying to say that our veterans gave their lives so Neo Nazis could spread hatred on Twitter. I think it's time for you to log off.

The only sides in WW2 fighting against freedom of expression, opinion, and speech were the Germans, the Soviets, the Italians, and the Japanese.

Our veterans were thankfully not fighting for their beliefs

But that is exactly what is wrong with the world.

Do people really only talk and socialise with people with the same political views? (Im not about mentalists from either sides here).

I couldn't tell you who my mate I have been mates with since I was 5 votes for. I have no interest in it, we never go to the pub and talk about politics. It's the same as money / wages etc, that sort of shit is very minimal.

Good luck to anyone who chooses to be exposed to and engage with people they think are twats in order to get a full worldview or whatever but I know I can't be arsed. I'd move away from them on a bus, I'd mute them on a website. Makes life easier

They quite literally fought to have nazi voices silenced forever and those voices are accepted and amplified on elons twitter.

No, I'm not sure where you've got that from.

Things they fought for:

Their country
Their families
Their right to speak freely
Their democracy
Peace

Things they didn't fight for

Silencing/shaming people who disagreed with them

The one thing that this thread shows is how divided everyone is. Most folk are centrist and want an easy life with minimal Government interference but choose to listen to like minded folk rather than engage to reach a common way of achieving a better outcome. We are getting further divided by faceless actors and folks are falling for it.

I'm going to disengage, because the notion that our veterans fought to allow for Nazi ideology to have a platform is the sort of insane nonsense which cannot be argued with. It's also incredibly disrespectful. Have fun.

Seems to have been caused by an increase in scams, bots, spam and harmful content, rather than "lefties" being sensitive.

Oh right, I guess you've been through all the posts?

Same reason many are leaving twitter I guess. Some are genuinely doing it because it's a bit of a cesspit and some content is disturbing, many others will do so because they want their batshit opinions to go without challenge.

They fought Fascism.

Silencing people that you disagree with is Fascism

No. Most of my mates tend to be lefties like me. I do have a couple of mates who are fairly right-wing, even Trumpers, weird that British people are Trumpers. Anyway, with them we never discuss politics as we know we won't agree, everything else, fine.

In the past though I have had mates who have been openly racist and I cut them off, haven't spoken to them since.
