It's all about knowing the club, about experience in this situation and being able to get the best out of the players between now and the end of the season.

I wouldn't consider Bobby in the position of interim manager but is here is a role for him as the club, as he's offered his services on many occasions ? He's not a yes man, so would he last 5 minutes ?

Any thoughts ?

One would hope we'd have sent him out scouting, if nothing else.

Jurassic Park 3 was poor. I really don't want to see any more renditions thanks.

Yes he could unearth the next Dave Bamber, Leigh Jenkinson, John Gayle, graham Withey, Martin Jol, Ashley Grimes - I can't wait.

That is indeed true.

I'd send him out to watch a few non league games and report back though, wouldn't you? The manager wouldn't have to act on it after all...

Or the next Stuart Pearce, Terry Gibson, Trevor Peake, Dave Bennett, Steve Ogrizovic. Phil Babb etc

No comment on him scouting. Just applying a bit of balance.

So long as we're keeping an open mind eh?

I personally find it amusing that a hedge fund is always slagged off for doing things on the cheap but many fans would be happy if they recruited an ageing never has been as a manager or scout. Hilarious.

Sure he's not the only ageing nonentity who scouts for us... and his record's a damned site better than, say, Thorn's. Give me a Jenkinson over a Bell any day.

There is absolutely a role for him but not on the playing side. Get him shaking hands in corporate, connecting with some of the older generation of supporters in the community. He'd be great at that kind of thing.

Jenkinson cost the equivalent of about £2 million on today's transfer fees.

I assume you have read autobiographies regarding that team have you?

Fair do's, but thats a very long time ago.

This is on his Wiki page...

His next stop was with the Welsh national team. He became national coach in June 1995 but quit four years later after their failure to qualify for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Gould was not at all highly regarded by the Welsh fans, following questionable tactics and major fallings out with players such as Nathan Blake, when Blake refused to play after accusing Gould of making a racist remark in training,[SUP][4][/SUP][SUP][5][/SUP] as well as Mark Hughes. A comical incident occurred early in the career of Robbie Savage when Savage jokingly threw a replica of Paolo Maldini's shirt away on Sky Sports before a match against Italy.[SUP][6][/SUP] Gould initially dropped Savage from the squad for disrespecting Maldini, only to reinstate him the next day. Gould's final match was a 4–0 defeat to Italy in which he allegedly instructed Mark Hughes "not to tackle the Italians as they'll only dive".

I couldn't give a toss about autobiographies mate. I just redressed your post that slagged Gould for being a "Never has been" as a manager or scout....btw he took Wimbledon to 7th in the league that year too. A poster earlier on in this thread talks of Gould bringing players like Pearce, Bennett, etc to name but two, to CCFC.

We rarely agree, but yep, can't argue with that.

I'm afraid that it is part of what seems to be the stereotypical CCFC fan mindset. Far too many simply seem to look for & focus on the negatives of everything. They would probably whinge if we did anything less than the treble every season.
Gould for me has proven scouting, tactics, motivational, managerial skills. Sadly I suspect he would no longer have the motivation or wherewithal to effectively deal with the modern age's owner/player.

I think Gould as a local scout is a good shout. Pay him no retainer and a very small percentage of any future transfer fee received.

It's a different age in many ways but he's possibly more suited. Gone are the days when you could realistically find a non-league player and chuck him in a team in the top division (Pearce, Flynn, Busst, Furlong etc.) but that same standard could make it in modern L1.

Nothing to lose.
