A main striker for a team who finished in the playoffs and would initially be a player to bring off the bench…. I mean you are taking the piss if you think that’s not good enough.

We need some form of Godwins Law for SBT player threads.

“As any thread on a new signing increases in length the probability of Gyokeres being mentioned as someone who looked crap reaches 1”

Exceptions are non league signings in which case Stuart Pearce/Jamie Vardy may be used, and youth players who haven’t reached their potential who must be compared to Callum Wilson.

How about aging stars? For me that flipflops between Dennis Wise or Tim Sherwood/Arjan de Zeeuw types

This thread is all well and good, but we have no proof that it is even BTA that is being linked. I am willing to go along with it though, as I think from what I have discovered about him that he would be an upgrade on Godden (and definitely Tavares) and be good for our depth of squad. Lets see................

He literally scored 11 goals in the championship last year

3/4 less than simms and wright
He was playing as a centre forward rather than on the wing like Wright.

Disingenuous to talk about Simms' overall tally when he massively improved 2nd half of the season and scored the majority of his goals.

You have to laugh when people write Tavares off so flippantly. The lads only 22, has had a year out with injury, comes back and gets played out of position, and scares the shit out of Man U at Wembley.
I've no idea if he's going to be good enough here long term, he's only been involved in a few games, and mainly as a sub, so I trust MR to make that decision, but if he's loaned or sold then someone is going to get a very capable player.

He is the same age as simms, 23.

Exactly this, the negativity towards him is bizarre. So unlucky with the timing of his injury as I think he was due a season out on loan.

The cameos in the cup shows he has something about his game. Took is goals well against Maidstone. Ripped a Prem team to shreds out of position.

He won't be costing the world and we are trying to build a squad with depth and different options.

If you were a supporter of any other championship team, and you'd seen his performance in the cup semi final, you'd be over the moon to get him in on loan.

It would not surprise me if we sign a youngster to replace Godden or even bring in a loan where the parent club are happy with game time off the bench. Maybe a try before you buy deal, which has worked for us in the past.

Robins will know better than most of us (certainly better than me) because he sees him every day in training, but this describes Tavares doesn't it?

I had written Tavares off. But since coming back from injury I have been impressed. I would see how he goes off the bench until December. If he is not progressing look to loan him out. But I think he could be a useful squad player?

With respect to Tavares, he needs to prove he can be a star player in L1 to show he has a future here.

If we’re in a position where we need him off the bench, we either haven’t recruited well or we have an injury crisis.

Or he buys us a bit of time to recruit the right person. Good transfers don't just fall in your lap. Sometimes they are worked on over 2 or even 3 windows. It depends on how much you really want someone?

He’s not good enough for what we now need. Thats the simple reality, we’ve grown bigger than him.

he’s best going on loan and trying to forge career in league 1/2

I agree, I was all for Tavares last season (and had a fair few laughing emojis on my comments to boot) but I’ve now changed my opinion. Whilst he’s been good at times I think he needs a loan spell to really prove he’s up to our level.

Well let's hope we're not stupid enough to ship him off to league 1 if we have an injury crisis.

West brom are willing to let their top scorer go , for a couple million to a championship promotion rival ?

Seems a stretch
Last year of the contract, a Baggies fan I know says that the new owners are shite. History of decimating clubs, already looking to sell off assets.

Losing their top striker is the least of their concerns. Apparently they're trying to flog the training ground 😧

Hi guys, Baggies fan in peace. I don't know why they would say that about our new owners, the old owner was a wrong un. Shilen Patel has already paid off a debt incurred by the previous regime and has invested in improvements to our training facilities as requested by Corberan. They are certainly not shite. Check out any Albion forums for confirmation. Anyway, good luck for the new season👍

In laws are all Baggies. Don't know what that poster was on about! You've already made signings and got Mowatt on a new deal. Investment in training ground too I believe!?
Did very well last year without parachute payments and have a good manager that I believe turned down a move to Leicester!
WBA will be another team challenging the top six this year in my opinion. 👍
