The thing is it was not really just a trading block anymore was it. People felt it was becoming something else and that would eventually take over. It’s not irrational though is it, my question is really who do people automatically think something is irrational if it doesn’t make financial sense. There is more to it than that.
What do you mean by our consent? Our governments you mean…who do not speak for the people or care. The people finally got a chance to put their voice forward and they went for it. It’s called democracy.I mean it would have only ever become anything with our consent. Like the Turkey stories. And if you are worried about the EU existing like that (and considering our geography we probably should) you’ve just taken the brakes off.

They don’t fight for our interests though that’s the point I’m making. This was a chance for people to vote on the actual outcome rather than voting for someone else to decide for them. People are not as stupid as a lot of remainers make them out to be. This forum is like a remainers cock fest. It’s called an advisory referendum, democracy is electing people to represent you and understand the issues while fighting for your interests. Which is how we get governments.
We had elected members in the European Parliament and a veto. Most notably we vetoed (along with Denmark) ever committing to joining the Euro for example. Even then there’s the example of Sweden who didn’t use their veto to block joining the euro but did then go on to hold a national referendum on joining the euro in which the population essentially vetoed joining the euro. Which is exactly why it was an irrational decision. People can always change their state of mind with some actual facts, an open mind and critical thinking. What do you mean by our consent? Feel its important to point out that the majority of the country did not vote to leave, nor did the majority of those eligable to vote, it was the majority of those who bothered to vote in the referendum.Could it not just be the majority of people who are mainly silent in this country didnt want to be part of the EU regardless of the consequences. My flat earth friend.
What do people not get, the majority of this country didn’t want to be in the EU end of regardless of any benefits it could give. It made no difference what Farage, Boris or Obama had to say their minds were made up. This was a chance of a referendum as a direct act of democracy and the people spoke. You think the EU give a monkeys about us? Most of it is a mess why would we want to be in it.We had elected members in the European Parliament and a veto. It’s like this European Super League. The Italians and Spanish are only trying it on as they know their leagues are on their arse and can’t compete with us. They want to bring the premier league down as they know it’s too far ahead. Do you think if they had the premier league they would suggest it?
Our big clubs were nearly sucked in by it just like our government with Europe but thankfully the fans (people) kicked
Off and it was stopped.
Most of Europe despise and mock us but the reality is we have more heart guts and culture than the lot put together. You can stick your EU up your arse mate thanks.

Although polling around that time did give leave a slight edge but interestingly that's about the only time before or since that leave has been ahead in the polls.
This is the most recently polling I could find.

Yeah it's done now and it's the end of it, there's no chance of the UK rejoining and I don't think it should do.I ignored this survey the first time it was posted and was going to avoid the thread. But they really shouldve at least asked participants to justify/rationalise their answers. It’s like they’ve only asked listeners to James Obriens LBC show ‘everything’s brexits fault’ as some responses just don’t make sense.
Wages - Its so hard to find decent comparables but this was is in EU press (nothing in U.K.) Real wages are down in Europe: Which countries saw the biggest fall?. See cumulative since 2019
the employment market is tighter here since brexit so this is logical. This brings its own challenges but the reality is wages have been/should be forced higher in some sectors at least due to reduced supply
Ability to import goods from outside the EU countries impacted by Brexit ? - this has also been rising since brexit. My question to participants would’ve been, why would Brexit have a bad impact on non eu imports ? There might be some convoluted answers but I doubt many could’ve rationalised their answer
The ability to control immigration ? - the ability to control is obviously greater, it’s just not been utilised due to the shitshow in home office/government. there is maybe less assistance with ‘illegal’ migration but legal is now within our control
That’s not to say theres much in the way other tangible benefits and there’s certainly been some negative effects but people have just heard this drip drip of brexit being the cause of all ills. Namely from social media, media and big business. Nothing to do with global inflation, high interest rates, poor government decisions, productivity being on its arse since 2010 or the pandemic to name a few. It’s done anyway, even if we are still posting about it 6.5 years after the vote
I think we should and the sooner the better.Yeah it's done now and it's the end of it, there's no chance of the UK rejoining and I don't think it should do.
Sorry, I meant to include from an EU perspective it shouldn't do. The issue for the UK though would be that it would be a case of take it leave it in terms of negotiations for re-entry.I think we should and the sooner the better.
Easy for you to say that with your Irish passport!
On the wages you have to consider that against inflation. Our inflation rate is still double the EU average and food inflation is around 9%, over double the EU average. Brexit was supposed to deliver higher wages and lower food prices. Neither are true either when compared to our own historic figures or indeed what’s happening in the EU.I ignored this survey the first time it was posted and was going to avoid the thread. It should have just done a Brexit similar to the EEA as a compromise for both sides.Probably politically untenable to rejoin but all we’ve done is introduce barriers to efficient trading with our nearest neighbours and biggest partners. The UK has enough structural issues affecting growth without us imposing unnecessary ones so if there is a route back it should be explored if/when politically feasible.
Yeah the fact it was so close should have meant a bit of a compromise solution and it’s a bit of an unrecognised scandal I feel that the leave camp tried to then go as hard Brexit as they could. It should have just done a Brexit similar to the EEA as a compromise for both sides.
God, I promised not to do this as whatever I may feel about it, there's only so much energy I can expend - I've been worn down by the fundamentalist nutters and their bus!It should have just done a Brexit similar to the EEA as a compromise for both sides.

But... the problem with this is it did absolutely nothing, but cost us more and lost us influence. What, actually, was the point of something that did nothing for anybody whatsoever?
For better or worse, a nice, firm, hard pulsating Brexit at least is a marked difference from what was there before...
If the country is so fucked why is every man and his dog traipsing across europe to get here, best country on the planet. Too many pansies crying to sleep saying how bad everything is when they all have 60 inch tv's hanging on the wall. People need to get a grip.Jesus Christ. No wonder the country is fucked
Maybe Hamilton was onto something after all wrt a full on democracy not being a good thing
Can you just elaborate on this statement a little more please? When you say the less we have to do with the EU the better, what do you mean? Specifically - what is “the better” referring to?The less we have to do with the EU the better, if anyone loves it so much they can always move there
And that's the thing, the EEA option meant everybody lost, really. Didn't get the option of doing anything different, cost more, lost influence. It would have recognised the closeness of the vote. Neither side admittedly would accept it as both wanted to win
Can’t be arsed because your pea brain will never get it because you are living in a left wing bubble. Can you just elaborate on this statement a little more please? When you say the less we have to do with the EU the better, what do you mean? Specifically - what is “the better” referring to?
Would love to know the benefits you’re referring to

I honestly can’t work out whether you’re 14 or 70Can’t be arsed because your pea brain will never get it because you are living in a left wing bubble.
Because I knew common sense would prevail and we would be out of it eventually. So why didn’t you move to a non-EU country when the UK was in it, if it’s so bad?
I honestly can’t work out whether you’re 14 or 70
Because I knew common sense would prevail and we would be out of it eventually.
Because a lot of people just didn’t want to be in it. It’s like when people just love drinking in a shit hole pub even when there is a new fancy all singing dancing bar up the road. People just like what they like, there doesn’t need to be a logical reason for it, can you not understand that?Or can't be arsed because you haven't got any kind of argument that stands up to reason. Make your case if you've got one, we're all listening. Quit your whining about a bubble and have your say...
Or, what's that saying, sometimes it's better to shut up and be thought an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove it...
I’m doing pretty well thanks, don’t really need much more. You should have had a bet you’d have made some cash
