I'm not sure what some of you see. Bristol seemed decent first half once they got into gear and had their best on display. We didn't get out of second gear all game but our strong bench was enough to draw and for that matter could have won it from another quick quick slow performance. You can see where the quality is but it's not gelling as yet. As the season and games come along you will see a noticeable difference and i do expect we will be there or thereabouts. One clear observation is we have played opposition who have flooded the midfield area with 4 or 5 in there to our 3. Thought MR's was mistaken to allow this after Oxford did it too? Torp took a severe knock and had to come off. We just didn't play like we are capable of doing. Yet we drew and good sides always find a way. Can't wait to see the steady improvement. I do think we need a Liam Walsh type character in the middle. I suspect we are waiting for premiership clubs to release a few big loanee's?
Time to experiment against Oxford Tuesday and get it right for Norwich.

I thought Lati and in particular Binks played well
I'm not sure at this point the defence is the problem , I'm sure we can use a variation of centre backs at our disposal and the results will be the same .. we are struggling in midfield and the back line have little protection .

I hope we do some business this week

As above the positive from today is being able to play quite poorly for large parts and still pick up points , we have several more gears

We were so lucky to get a point. They bossed the first half and were so close on several occasions in the second half to getting a second goal and denied either by Dovin or MVE’s last ditch defending. Gave away the ball far too cheaply and had no midfield presence yet again. Such a glaring problem and we keep buying strikers. Go figure 🤷🏽‍♂️

Just through the door. Haven’t read this thread but reassured to see that my assessment of the ref is being echoed on here. He was fucking useless.

Generally a good point against a good side.

Good teams get the ball to their best players.
We need to work the ball in midfield to Rudoni and Saka far more often, spark them into contributing their quality.
They can get the ball to our strikers.

Jack Rudoni’s dad was drinking with Bristolians, despite being a v nice man, we need to ostracise Rudoni now… 😂

On a serious note, BCFC fans were nice people, well balanced in their opinions of the match and I genuinely reckon they’ll be good this season!!

I'll summarise the thread TD to save you some time and sanity. There was the classic angst and near suicide commentary at 1-0 down. Some threats of poster on poster violence. Calls for a key midfield signing in the window. Haji had a fight but seemed to acquit himself well. Not at our best at all. Take the point and move on. The end.

Not looked back on this thread or the goals yet, but did anyone think the linesman bottled calling a foul/offside for their goal?

Not saying he should have, as not looked back, but he didn’t run back to the halfway line and seemed to want to speak to the ref and appear to just give up.

Why thank you! Oooh…sounds like I missed a good un!
I thought Lati sorted out the fight after the goal…also a good un!

Just home, initial view, good point.

midfield problem - big week now…..worry for torp, the lad has got to switch on quickly. Clearly got ability, just worry he’s just not picking pace up.

defensively thought we were better generally. Still couple switch offs to sort. Dovin made some good saves.

Thought Latibeaudiere and Binks were good, midfield was the big problem and will continue to be unless it’s addressed.

MR also sat on the bench and didn’t stand in the technical area to bark orders or make signals as he is wont to do. Not sure if he was sluggish as well.

It wasn't great to watch today and althought their goal should have been disallowed and their 8 should have been sent off, I think we did well to get a draw.

But I don't really think it was so bad that we should be talking about the team like they're useless and haven't got a clue. People getting so angry they're offering people out. We were away against a good side and didn't perform to our best, this happens all the time in football. It doesn't mean our new signings are shit or Torp should "fuck off" or "Eccles is League One". It's early in the season and we've got a win, a draw and a defeat, very average start. I think we'll improve when our new players settle and Simms and Saka get back in to their stride.

Keep the faith and PUSB!
New players settle? 9/11 starters were here last season, and Dovin was arguably our MOTM.

It's the nature of the performance(s) that's worrying people. We looked electric going forwards at times vs Oxford, but conceded two poor goals, and they are a newly promoted side. Stoke and today were pretty awful, second best in every department against teams that I don't see troubling the top 6.

TBF Bristol are likely to finish in the top half and a good outside bet for the play offs

I'm a Bristol City fan and even I thought Williams could easily have seen red tbh.
Overall, I'm disappointed with a point and fair play to your keeper. 2 decent sides going at it but I was surprised Robins didn't bolster your midfield in the first half as they were being overrun. Not sure what changed after half time but it was a more even game.
Wright looks a player but didn't see much of the ball IMHO.
As for Palmer, had to be him didn't it? Did naff all for us but made a difference today, unlike our subs.
See you next year I guess.

We don't have a lot of options in midfield. We're still one short there and missing our best player in Ben Sheaf. We are missing that supply to our front 4. Was a bit better when Palmer came on and Rudoni dropped back a bit.

Palmer is a frustrating player. In honesty, his best role is probably coming off the bench with 20-25 mins to go when you're chasing the game. He seems to perform better in those moments.

Ultimately a frustrating game where we were nowhere near our best. Need Sheaf back and another midfielder asap to provide that link up play to the forwards.

Reading this thread you'd be convinced we were in the bottom 3.

No doubt if, and obviously a big if, we beat Norwich next up and go in to the play off places people will be celebrating guaranteed promotion.
We needed a stoppage time goal to beat Oxford after dominating the match. We theoretically could have only had 2 points by now and be in 18th place. We cannot afford another slow start and expect to make a late dash to the playoffs. Consistentcy is key and that can only be achieved through consistently good performances which we have not yet achieved.

Would be a good sign if we could get up there without being at our best. Some big surprises up there at the moment in Sunderland, Blackburn, West Brom & Watford who I'd be surprised if they stayed up there.

Robins must of been frustrated at watching that, but did make the correct subs. Because JDS, Palmer, Asante and Mason Clark changed the game. And in many ways those players brought on suited the pattern of the game mote than Tatsu, Torp and Simms.

Our bench is going to make a difference in many games this season and will be massive if we are going to be successful. I still think we can add to the squad and still have room and time to move some on. Getting Sheaf back is important but we need to get those we have to play with way more tempo and energy than we did v Stoke and Bristol. Long way to go but no need to lose our heads, its a point and still gives the coaches plenty to work on.

2 positive things for me so far was the shape is getting tighter without possession and the bench is making a difference.

Nope, not really. More bothered about performances that haven't been there. That said, at least we're not out of touch. We all know the kind of runs of results we're capable of stringing together.
Being set up to try and contain the opposition isn’t the safe approach MR seems to think it is, is my takeaway from it. It’s like we’re still in our first season up with a strapped up Biamou up front.
