Transfer Rumour BTA to Blackburn (60 Viewers)

Sometimes players flourish at other clubs, after failing elsewhere.

We've obviously had it ourselves and with David McGoldrick, we had the complete opposite. Known as McGoal Drought at Forest, they couldn't wait to get rid of him.

If BTA goes, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he did really well elsewhere.

He's obviously struggled here and must be bereft of confidence, after having missed a number of great chances lately.

I refuse to say he's crap. It's just not worked for us here and he has been poor as a result.

Remember when everyone said that EMC was a waste of money and of only L1 standard?

Hopefully, if BTA does go, we can replace him with someone who will improve us and will make a much more positive impact at the club

It’s been tricky for the strikers this season. Robins was like a dog with two dicks earlier in the season, strikers rotated/subbed to give others a run out. I don’t think any have really got into a rythym/run of form.

I still believe that if the Bassette deal was available earlier we may not have even bought BTA which is why he’s ended up as 3rd or 4th choice…. I doubt he would’ve expected that when signing ! Just not panned out so far which is a shame as he gives his all and comes across well

He's not the first and he won't be the last.

Kevin Drinkall and Chris Chilton come to mind.

Can't believe Blackburn want to sign him. Don't think he's good enough for this league, certainly not for a club chasing promotion.
I mean, was he not top scorer for a WBA team that finished 5th last season?? I'm not saying he's a good player or that he's anywhere good enough for us atm, but do those stats alone not rubbish this post?

We paid £2Mil up front is my understanding. WBA fans say he works hard which I think we’ve seen it just hasn’t worked for him and don’t think Lampard rates him.
I think much like Simms with a run of games in the right position and some confidence it will come so maybe it’s a shame really.
Part of me think if he was WBAs top scorer last year there must still be a player in there, problem is they say he is awful from 5yrds out but can score Worldies.
Can see Stoke coming in for him.

Just thinking about this. The "Transfer List" or being transfer listed as such. Does that still exist/happen? Or is it just a thing of the past now?

There's actually a software company which a friend of mine used to work for that has a platform where clubs put players available for transfer on I believe. So I think it's still the case. It's called Transfer Room I think.

That's obviously a more modern version of the traditional sense of the term.

Is this the same BTA that most were all over when we were rumoured to be signing him?
No it's the counterfeit one WBA actually delivered. 😁

Wasnt it the norm for MR to see potntial in players and buy them in the hope that he could bring the bets out in them? Nowadays we seem to want the finished article, which is fine, but we don't seem to be able to pay them, hence resorting to these recruitment tactics.

yes and it worked when DL and AV were at the club, we had a very good record of getting players to the best of their abilities, if not actually over performing in some cases

Like others, I'm not entirely sure what he can offer. He's not a winger, not a CAM and I just don't see a lone striker role ever really working out (with us anyway). Maybe a run of games in a 2 up top formation but I feel like I'm just trying to find something. If the offer is fine, I would sell.

West Brom fans said he works hard but lacks quality and and isn't great at finishing. Which is what we've all seen. He was top scorer for Wet Brom with league goals in 39 games so pretty much a 1 in 4 striker, which is the best he has been in his career.. And those 11 goals came against an xG of 12.7, so under performed against the chances he had.

When you have 2 strikers who scored 20 goals last season, he was always going to be 3rd choice at best, and therefore not play the amount of games needed to hit 10+ goals.

Rob Gurney said he was good at WBA plus top scorer. But I did wonder why they did let him go.
Last season of his contract, it was sell now or get nothing later.

Finished in 5th last season as their top scorer think that makes him more than suitable for this league.
Unfortunately it hasn’t worked for him primarily for the same reason as the other strikers this season. We have too many of them, non get a good long run in the team so they have no confidence. Simms and Bassette fall into the same category. To me think it will work for all parties if he goes. He is more likely to get more consecutive minutes at Blackburn, which will improve his confidence. We get a chunk of money back which we can invest in areas we need players. Nothing to stop Doug as ting he wants additional payments if he is successful eg goals scored, promotion matches played.

Yep, this is very much a thing. Clubs also issue out mailings of players that they have available to other clubs. Particularly young players for loan etc.

BTA seems like a good guy, enthusiastic, good work ethic and while never likely to be a prolific goal scorer, definitely capable of putting defenders under pressure and getting into good positions. Probably doesn't fit into our current system which is why he's getting such abuse from some 'fans' on here. But he waved and smiled at my 9 year old son before the Pompey match which made his day so I'll always have a soft spot for him. Either way hope it works out for him.

He is definitely a nice guy, his character is excellent but that's not the primary quality needed for him to add value to the squad.

Rob Gurney was saying BTA looks a different player compared to his performances when he used to watch him at West Brom, and it's obviously a massive confidence issue.

I think there is a player in there somewhere. Just might be we never get to see it if he's moved on

Someone change all the locks and hide before he comes back, then he’ll just leave…

I spoke to one of BTA’s team mates when we were first linked with him. He said to me he was a great lad, hard working but his final ball / finish was very inconsistent. I also spoke to a baggie at work who said pretty much the same.

I think this has been our experience too.

What amazes me most is that whilst we can all see it there are other clubs who see it differently. Hull in the summer, Blackburn now.

We have also heard Frank be very positive about BTA when as fans he has looked like he barely contributed.

Does anyone know what Frank’s view of selling vs retaining BTA is ?

Weirdly one of the only times I thought he looked decent for us was when he came on and played down the right against Sheff Wed at home in the league game. Barely seen him there since
