Weirdly one of the only times I thought he looked decent for us was when he came on and played down the right against Sheff Wed at home in the league game. Barely seen him there since

Think everyone was really positive about him after the Tottenham game as well. It was a nice goal to be fair

I just think bta has not become a bad player over night just think he needs game time to get his spark bad

I'd still start Thomas-Asante over Bassette personally while Wright and Mason-Clark are still unavailable

True - but I do remember an overhead kick from Drinkall which was a great goal. (maybe his only one though!)

neither has Simms who has scored more last season than in any of BTA's previous seasons at this level.

I remember becoming really enthused about City signing Chilton who almost immediately got injured and only scored a few goals for us.

The reason given at the time was the parachute payments had run out at West Brom and they had to sell their main assets?
He was their top scorer in a team that reached the playoffs. Looked a no brainer at the time.
Apart from Hadji, all our strikers have struggled. Our midfield need to create more chances.
Eustace is shaping up to be a good manager.
The ideal is to sell for a profit. How does this fit the model?

Truly bizarre the way we write people off. If we just take centre forwards can you imagine if we’d had the same attitude to just some of these slow starters:
Gibson, Regis, Rosario, McNulty, Wright etc etc

I think it’s more a case of we have 3 better than him already and greater needs in other parts of the pitch. If we need to trade to raise funds then BTA is a good option.

I'll never, ever forget him partnering Kyle Lightbourne up front away to Barnsley. Ever.

It went about as well as you'd expect.

It would obviously be preferable to not make a loss on him, but sometimes the big picture dictates otherwise. Not every signing works out, but if we were also able to sell Lati for a profit then they kind of cancel each other out, and result in Lampard having more wiggle room to bring in players he wants.

I'm sure Lightbourne featured in the LAST Hall of Shame with a description along the lines of "signed to add some height up front, a lamp post would have had a similar effect"

Both decent lower league strikers, to be fair, just not good enough for the level we were at then.

Amount we paid for him seems to be going up. It was reported that Hull had agreed a fee 'significantly lower than £2m' and I thought the itkers round here had him at just over £1m. I actually think he will do alright somewhere but we desperately need to rebalance the squad.

I am telling you what happened last yr. Can hardly criticize when he is not being picked. Simms is a far better player than Assante. Cannot fault Assante work rate

After that debut goal v Grimsby he was on fire for a bit & scored in about 4 consecutive matches (ok maybe not a fire, more of a spark)

Take your point but Wright will play left. Simms looks pretty disinterested to me and Bassette is a prospect who is deemed better than BTA because he winds the opposition up. I’d take the sale to help the squad but I think the assessment of him is unfair.

If the club sells BTA for less than the price that was paid, the upside to this is that he will be removed from the wage bill and the transfer fee could be put to better use for a position that needs filling (so that there are 2 players for every position) or a position that needs upgrading such as left back (Kai Wagner or Harvey Vale?)

BTA is 26 years old with 3 and a half years left on his contract. He has only scored 1 goal in 25 appearances in the League and he has not been value for money.

At WBA in the 22/23 season he scored only 7 goals in 33 appearances and in the 23/24 season he scored 11 goals in 39 appearances and many of these were penalties, not from open play.
In the last 2 and a half seasons he has played 97 league games and scored 19 goals, which is a ratio of 1 goal every 5 games. This is not good enough for a striker.

BTA is probably the 4th choice striker at the club after Wright, Simms and Bassette and the 3rd choice left winger after Wright and Mason-Clark.
His signing was not needed and was another poor signing by Mark Robins as the money should have been put to better use.
Hopefully, Robins will do Coventry a favour and sign him for Stoke.

Let’s remember there are some teams who are desperate to make signings. Jan is an inflated window as it is and Doug won’t deal for a loss and I suspect he goes for whatever we paid for him.

Is Rosario not the odd-one-out in that list? I remember him being a bit crap in that red-flecked away kit.

Maybe I should go check the stats.
