Burge to be Number 1? (1 Viewer)

You need a decent keeper to make any progress. City have been fortunate over the years in generally having good keepers and some of them were largely responsible for keeping our top flight status for as long as we did. Even at the level we are at now, we need someone who is better than what we have at the moment if we want to progress. Burge is what he is - an ordinary keeper at League One/Two level. If we want to challenge at this level we need someone better. Burge is prone to errors and never looks organised, he is a flapper. Then TM needs to decide whether to keep Burge or Charles-Cook as the reserve.

You say that, but Bournemouth it promoted with allsop, same age as Burge is now and we know that he can make howlers, PNE's keeper this season was only 22 and lacked any real experience. We had Murphy in goal and we conceded 77 league goals in a season. We need an organised midfield and defence first and foremost to make sure teams don't get too many clear it chances.

I believe a solid team starts with a good keeper that a defence can have confidence in, and Burge doesn't meet that requirement. In our division many teams are of a similar standard with loans, kids and journeymen. A good goalkeeper will give you a distinct edge, as history tells us with CCFC over the years with ones like Matthews, Glazier, Blyth, Ogrizovic etc.

murphy was a quality keeper at this level? Didn't really help did it? It gave us a distinct edge in that he kept us in games for a while but it wouldn't matter, as the defence and midfield would offer up another 10 chances.
Our defence is poor, burge is as you said at least decent at this level. Sort out getting 2 wingers, new cm, 2 new cb's and a Rb.
You defend as a team, not as a goalie, a goalie is the last line of defence not the first line.

Ah yes...a BIG name...that ought to do the trick.
Do you mean one that wouldn't come to Coventry even if we were mid-table Premiership? One that has gone off the rails & can't be arsed anymore? Or an injury prone has-been big name? All of who would cost big wages!

...onwards & upwards PUSB

well, number 1 he is......

Lee Burge has been given the nod to start the new League One campaign as Coventry City’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray is keen to give the 22-year-old a chance to establish himself at the club’s No.1 and has no plans, at this stage, to recruit a more experienced understudy to push the Academy graduate who impressed at the tail-end of last season after recovering from a testing first senior season.

However, Mowbray hopes to send current out No.2 Reice Charles-Cook out to get some regular action at some point, but only if an out-of-contract veteran becomes available at the right price to provide back-up to Burge.
