Maybe a restricted covenant should have been placed on the Ricoh Arena, limiting its activity to professional football.
How spiteful are Coventry City Council?
Where are you looking ?I cant find it but I am sure this restrictive covenant isn't new, sure I saw mention of it a while back. That the 125 year lease CRFC had contained the restriction
IF is the word though, isn't it? We've been at the Ricoh for over a decade and rarely needed more than two thirds of capacity.Interesting that there's a fair few stadiums in the premiership around the 25k mark.
http://www.statista.com/statistics/384458/premier-league-stadium-capacity/
Problem as some have mentioned is if we ever needed to increase capacity into the 30s. But at the same time we are so far off from being in the Premiership...
Exactly, there's plenty of grounds with little to no parking and its not an issue yet when theres even a slight possibility of a new ground for us everyone wants to find fault with every little detail they can. They don't need to provide any parking beyond a minimal amount for the club itself. The Emirates (capacity 60k) seems to do Ok.
Why could it not? We wouldn't all play at the same time though. Keep going though, I'm sure there's other things you can think of.Another thing people need to remember there are currently 2 teams playing there at the minute, CRFC & Cov Bears.
Could the stadium cope with 3 teams?
But then you have the argument of do you build a 30k stadium on the off chance of 1 or 2 big games a year?
You build something extendable in case of promotion etc.

Damian Gannon
Damian Gannon:
He said: “I understand that the relationship between CCFC and the Council has not been great but this presents a real opportunity for us to “press the reset button” on our relationship with them and work to produce an outcome that works for the football club as well as the local authority. It would seem churlish for the Council to reject such a proposal out-of-hand particularly as a move closer to the city centre so obviously fits in with what we have been trying to achieve over the past few years in terms of growing the city centre.
“I have written to the Football Club and the Rugby Club asking for a meeting so I can get a fuller appreciation of these proposals and how we can all work together to make our city prosper and our local sports team achieve their true potential.”
Bournemouth I don't know but have multi millionaire backing
Did I say before how much I liked this bloke?
Sounds more like it, which party is he?
http://www.afcb.co.uk/news/article/south-stand-afc-bournemouth-stadium-expansion-plans-3012635.aspxThey want to expand, but I believe that the plan has been put on hold.

latest plans but still up to only 14259
CCFC have now released an official statement.
What I don't get is that they say "It is important that the club continues to work towards securing it's (sic) long-term future".
They have always said that the only way to achieve long-term financial viability is to own their own stadium, but Cov Rugby seem to be saying that they themselves would remain owners, and the Sky Blues would be tenants.

If people had listened carefully they would have heard 15k capacity maybe extending to 25k. but no real probablity of any extention above 15k... Non starter.
OSB, do you know much about these covenants?
Assuming you do (and apologies if you don't), could there have been a reason why there wasn't one in place on the Ricoh for other sports?

I would think that it was always intended as a multi purpose and multi sport venue - so that it would maximise income ?:
Would think the leaseholders of Butts Park Arena would argue it was therefore unfair and unreasonable for such a restriction to be on their stadium. These things can be changed but not always. It maybe a restriction because of the neighbouring properties for instance

I am just waiting for the new leader to drop a bomb...Of course if Gannon's comments are true of the general view in CCC, it appears the will is there to change anything, anyway. That in itself is encouraging.
