If only it was 'Buy One, Get One Free'.....

:thinking about:Then again, we're not actually 'buying' are we?

Should be 'Get One Free, Sell One'.....

Oh come on. You were moaning we weren't signing anyone the other day! Fleck is a brilliant signing. As for Keogh, well his departure will hardly be a shock, will it?

In the current climate at CCFC I think getting Fleck was a coup.

I'm not sure about Elliott...I'd like to see him play first before I make a judgement.

He isn't a tall striker is he? His scoring records reflects that he plays wide and is not an out and out striker...which gives us width.

Although we expected Keogh and Crainie to leave, the fact that they are makes it no less a blow, particularly as they were the shining lights last season.

True, Cheever. It's still a blow. Was more disappointed than surprised with Cranie and will be gutted if Keogh leaves, but I was gutted about Gary Gillespie, Ian Wallace, Danny Thomas and loads of others who have gone on to better things. We've always been a stepping stone for the good ones.

Because the implication is the club is still asset stripping and not trying to assemble a squad to make a realistic challenge. Cranie was not sold his contract had expired. If Keogh leaves we are looking at a possible player exchange. For league one the two signings made are of good quality. This is encouraging. We are being linked with buying players. The fear for you is this may reflect positively and the ownership discussion goes below the radar.

Also provides a bit of an interesting problem for you Duffy-if the 'worst manager in the history of the club' goes onto deliver a successful season, would you eat humble pie? Providing Thorn hasn't scoffed it all by that point, that is.

Bigi won't go. Sure tonnes of teams are interested but we wouldn't get anything much for him and I doubt any team will take a chance on him.

I agree, Flam. I think he's way off his true potential. I think he will do well this year though.

Well that is the funny thing. Sometimes guys get lucky. Last season he got away with it as expectancy was nil, now he will probably start with a top 6 squad and a eager assistant to give back up.

My real question I suppose is-what would he have to do to win over the doubters (myself included)?

The fact remains that with this 'one in - one out' scenario, we will still have a squad that is too small. Our financial state notwithstanding, if we want promotion back to the Championship, we need a bigger and better squad than last season. Can anyone see that happening?

Number of players won't do it, we need the quality. Sadly players like these three could have saved us last year.

Results would be misleading in terms of assessing his ability because he will be managing in an easier division with (for now) a squad that hasn't been downgraded significantly. My doubts are profound - that he can't get maximum effort out of the players on a consistent basis and that his strategising is poor. He would effectively need to become a new man to overcome such doubts. Results ought to improve, but I'd be amazed if the team doesn't underperform.

As I said CM I've got big reservations myself-but if he has a very successful season, he'll deserve at least a bit of credit in my eyes.

WRONG !

Fact is we still have a very small squad in terms of senior players...

A central defence options of Craine, Wood, McPake, Keogh, Cameron, has already lost 2, and possibly 3, and we used all of these last year (and Herman) due to injuries, suspensions etc.

Elliott and Fleck are good signings...but they have mearly (in terms of bodies) replaced 2 outgoing players in McPake and Cranie this week, and this time last week the squad was too small.

Whats changed ?

Which is what I'm asking-how much does he have to do get some praise off the hardened critics amongst us?

I don't think many of us could come up with an arbitrary success point (e.g. league position, points), just because we're probably not that familiar with the opposition in L1. It's going to be an eyeball thing more than anything else.

Not wrong. These players are a statement of intent - they are high quality for the league we are in. The club has said that a replacement will be sought for Cranie. This now has credibility.

Statistically relegation from this league gives a chance of bounce back. Peterborough and Scunthorpe achieved this. Are you saying they increased the squad and increased wage budget on relegation? This I would question unless you have evidence to the contrary.

In a previous discussion you defended the manager by saying the bookies were relegation favourites. So you believe they are a barometer of strength or weakness. Our odds are shortening so by your own argument the squad is stronger.

You made the OP as some sly dig at the owners. So r of us are now more focused on events on the field. Sorry if that is disappointing.

I'm not saying a defined cut off as such, but get your point.

They give AT those 5 extra signings or 4 if Kilbane sticks around. It really will be judgement time for AT. For the first time since the initial period when he took over from AB before the asset stripping.

If AT loses Keogh but gets those signings ie another striker, creative midfielder. 2 center backs and another winger.

Then no play offs and the dufster was right all along.
