Without sounding like a total numpty but if you wanted me to liken him to someone I would say... wait for it... Hulk. Lol.
I'm sorry, I know it's ridiculous and I'm not saying he is anything like him but seems very hench, strong in the air, good with the ball at his feet and always looking to bring others into play.
He is nothing like Platt or Juke. More like Simon Haworth lol (remember him?)
The most noticeable thing about him is his size and he should dominate most defenders in the league. Can see him definitely starting at Yeovil.

Enough of the Platt bashing though. He's good at what he does and will do a job for Northampton, mark my words.

target mans game doesnt always have to be about scoring goals
if callum chips in with 9-10 this year and 5-6 assists for others id say thats a good year.

If Ball delivers the same number of goals as Platt we will not get promoted. We need 70 goals minimum and I would suggest his record of 7 goals in 67 appearances would be nowhere near good enough unless of course you know of a team achieving promotion with a striker who averages 5 goals in a 46 game season.

Not got much time but off the top of my head I know that Heskey scored a similar amount in Leicester's most successful Premiership spell - good finish, league cup win etc.
It's what Platt brought to the team as a target man. The ability to hold up the ball and bring others into play when we were struggling to make any progress up the pitch. If you can't see that then you either weren't going to games or you need your head checking. Possibly the latter.

I'd also like to add that when target men do score it's usually down to great service which we clearly had in abundance last season - what with all our creative midfielders.

Strange how every club he played for suffered the same problem - even stranger the striker who played in the first half of the season scored 9 goals last season for us so could have got close to 20 in the full season - how do you explain that?

He averaged a goal every 4 games at Leicester and in the season you refer to a goal every 3 games - something Platt could only dream about.

You and I both know that it wasn't Heskey's scoring record that he was admired for! The same goes for Platt.

An overweight 19 years old goint on 35 years old target man who despite his limited ability give you 100% effort and on his day could be a bit of a beast! :thinking about:......after consideration Paul Warhurst or Ian Marshall are closest players.....though both will probably end up with better goals per game ratio than young Ball. I am still happy that we have signed him on loan.....gives us another option/element up front,,,,,not sure he should be guaranteed starter from what I have seen on Tuesday but as I say reckon he will have a couple of stormers over the years!
With midfield signings I still would quite like to see Sheff and McDonald as our first choice front two.....not that Sheff did himself many favours to support my argument on Tuesday night. I honestly think we would see a much more motivated/effective Sheff if he was up top!

I really can't fault Platt.
When he played uninjured no one beat him in the,air and he had a great touch on the deck.
However due to our pathetic squad depth he like nimley and cody were forced to play injured.
Hence they had the odd poor game.
It has been explained that they were injured. Yet some people ignore this.
All I will say os thank god we should not have to play injured players this season.

A target man doesn't just have one aim to hold the ball up. He has to score as well.
Carroll has in the past, and crouch and holt certainly can!
