It does make some sense tbf,
he gets a chance to win promotion and become a premier league player with us,
And when you consider that he was out injured for the back end of the play off season and much of last season, he may consider promotion more achievable if he has a full season fit and playing.
He may also be convinced to stay when he hears about the quality we're being linked with.
He could also use next season to convince other clubs that he's finally over his injury issues, and can play a full season.
From the clubs point of view, we get to keep a quality player for another year, with only his wages to pay.
So there's a good argument for a 1 year contract.
However I think it's a long shot now. I'd be very surprised if he isn't playing somewhere else very soon.

No chance of it happening but if it did... it would be stupid from our point of view.
Basically letting him put himself in the shop window for another year and he then leaves for free. We're then a year behind in replacing him and have stalled the development of our players who get less minutes.
This goes for any player, if you don't want to be here for at least the next 2 years, you can leave.
He’s very clearly rejected the contract cos he thinks he’s worth moreI'm not sure if would be a case of coming back with his tail between his legs. It's not as if he's been vocal about leaving.

Or he believes someone will give him a chance to play at a higher level (which normally means they can pay more)

I’m going to run away with this and when he doesn’t sign. I’m going to 100% blame you for categorically stating he was definitely stayingNo one get excited with this btw
But we offered one last roll of the dice a few weeks back and as of this moment it's still in play
That's not to suggest he's staying, it's just made him think twice before pen to paper elsewhere apparently
Clearly not had the offers he and his agent were hoping for.No one get excited with this btw

He probably doesn't know who Isco isIt seems the offer from abroad wasn't as appealing as it first seemed
Not sure what he’s done to deserve an increased offer since last time. Barely played, had little impact, and the market has determined he’s not worth much. I’d be reducing the offer if anything.
Probably not helped by him charging into contract negotiations talking about how his wages should "slap".I think its more a case of he hasn't had the offers at the level he thought he would get, so we have said here's the same as before with more bonus increases, sign it or don't, if not we'll move on
Hopefully these new signings will make him think againNo one get excited with this btw

Yep bit surprised, hard to imagine he's blind to the speculation?Really was a weird one on the last day of the season, just didn't feel like it was a goodbye from him.
Honestly not too fussed with if he stays or goes, would just like to know so we can all move forward.
We didn't really expect him to sign 4 years ago to be honest. Would be brilliant if he does stay. Palmer, Torp. O'Hare, Wright, Mason-Clark, Sakamoto, Simms and Tavares. Not bad.Really was a weird one on the last day of the season, just didn't feel like it was a goodbye from him.
