58 Championship minutes all season and that’s with the signing of “Bright” not working out

I can’t believe it’s just “he’s not good enough” - how would you know

What a waste of a year it’s been for Jones. Clearly Robins does not rate him one bit

I said last summer extending Jones' deal only makes sense if Robins has a plan in place to integrate him back into the first team picture or at the very least will give him actual game time.

Sadly, there's been zero strategy in place and another year of Jones' career has been needlessly wasted.

He’s been the same all season with his team selections and substitutions (or lack of), I don’t know why anyone is surprised how we set up yesterday.

The only time he’s shown a bit of bravery this season was vs Bristol City in the 2nd half when we were down to 10 men. Instead of keeping 5 at the back and playing damage limitation, he went for it, played 4 at the back and we put in one of our best performances of the season.

Personally I’d like us to try 4 at the back for next season, at least for a few games. If it doesn’t work, fair enough, but I don’t think the standard of this league is good enough to warrant 5 at the back EVERY game

I think they gave it him out of goodwill rather than thinking he could be a Championship player

I think that's cruel if anything.

He's at an age where he desperately needs to be playing, not treated like some kind of mascot.

Its odd. He should have been loaned out until January if there was zero intent to play him

Seeing Shipley in a number 10 role must have been incredibly demotivating

Yeah I found it very strange that he wasn't loaned out.

From the outside looking in it just seems as if he's been totally forgotten about.

What I don’t get is when we had such a depleted squad he was never used at all.

He couldn’t be any worse than Shipley in an attacking role

Maybe
But also the club paid a significant fee for Jones and have covered the treatment by one of the best sports injury knee surgeons in the world
All the other guys who sustained ACL injuries with us were let go at the first opportunity
Robins is not a sentimental man. There was probably an element of taking another chance on a young guy who might still have had a sell on value if he came good
It was a calculated risk on a player who was probably one of the lowest paid in the squad
But a bit difficult to prove yourself if you don't play
Although he loves the club Jones needs to go somewhere he will play even if it means stepping down a level
It's a short career and he's 24 now

The problem is BD which annoys me is Jones needed to play in order to showcase his ability and perhaps more importantly his durability in first team games .

Being loaned out would've provided the perfect platform for him to do that and increase his chances of finding a decent club in the summer. However now, and I said this a few months ago, I wouldn't be all that surprised if Jones has to now go on trial in the summer at a club in order to win a contract.

If Robins had zero plans on using him why wasn't he afforded that opportunity?

I agree, he didn't look out of place in the championship in any of his cameos I watched. In fact there was a period of a few games, he brought him on and took O'Hare off when we were chancing the game and needed a goal. He cames on made things happen, got that assist against Bournemouth, then seemed to disappear.

didn’t he have to isolate a few times with Covid? I wonder if it was more that than ability which led to freezing him out

He had to isolate once after playing in an U23 game where a team mate later tested positive
After that he had his 2nd jab but then caught Covid a few weeks later so had to isolate again
But there are a number of senior players at the club who are unvaccinated but still playing so I guess it's unlikely that Covid has anything to do with it

In fairness to Jones he’s never moaned or complained about being left out. He even volunteered to play in some U23 games didn’t he?

Too little too late it would seem.
He certainly hasn't earnt another contract, and personally I'd like to see another new signing brought in who could really help take us to another level.
He hasn't earned another contract, but isn't that largely due to not having had an opportunity to do so? We've had few options at both CAM and LWB this season, both positions he may be able to play, yet the likes of Shipley have had numerous poor games and kept on being selected ahead of him. He doesn't come across as being a slacker or a troublemaker, so I can't see it being for that.

It's such a waste giving him 3 years worth of contracts after being injured he's not even been given an adequate chance to prove himself.

Maybe he hasn't earnt the right to get a chance ? MR has preferred Matson or Shipley as a left sided midfielder, which would suggest that Jones isn't in his future plans. Personally I like the lad, but at the moment he's taking up a squad place that could be given to someone who would offer genuine competition.
(He's not the only one though)

Yup. It's not even a waste either as, even if U23 games and the like, he does have an injury free season behind him now, rather than trying to pick up a contract off the back of nothing.

It is actually a season of progress for him, really!
