CCFC 10 years from now... (4 Viewers)

That's where there needs to be strict rules to put everybody on a level playing field.
This needs to happen at all levels IMO. I'd have a salary cap and salary floor for each division. If you can't meet it you don't get promotion, same as if you don't meet ground requirements.

Add in a fixed squad size and have the transfer window close before the season starts and you'd not only stop clubs overspending you'd make every division competitive.

I'd have all footballers paid a basic wage (based on division) then paid extra (up to club what they pay) when they actually play. Would hopefully force players to sign for teams where they are likely to get a game.

I think there is every chance football as we know it will have imploded within the next 10 years. The financial aspect of the game is a massive house of cards and i don't think it will take very much for it all to come crashing down.

Just read through, what a difference 7 years, two promotions, 3 trips to Wembley, playing in Coventry for the foreseeable, a new owner and MR and his team putting out a brand of football that people want to see makes.

still only 3 years to get to non-league eh? think that prediction is impossible unless the league dock us minus 30 points pretty quick.

7 years down the line, and it's a totally different feel around the Club. Wembley x 3, plus a good brand of footy and players we own, money in the bank and an owner not afraid to use it, how good to look back to where we were and came from. PUSB

The promotion to Championship season 2015/16 financials of Burton make interesting reading. Promotion achieved on a turnover of £4.2m and wages of 3.6m. That's not out of reach of CCFC even now. However Burton have land assets, a positive Balance sheet (£5m) and are not burden with debt or large interest charges. Having got to the Championship then the important thing is to stay there and they did but the financials not available yet.

ALBION FOOTBALL CLUB(BURTON-ON-TRENT)LIMITED(THE) - Filing history (free information from Companies House)

Fleetwood have also achieved on low budget but slightly differently. In year to 30/06/2016 they had a turnover of £4.3m and spent all that on wages 4.3m. They own land but have a negative balance sheet (-£6.9m). However they owe that and more to the owner (10.8m) who additionally wrote off over £6m in that financial year. They run at an annual loss of around £2.5m. That said they have spent quite a bit on the base for training and academy a clear long term plan.

FLEETWOOD WANDERERS LIMITED - Filing history (free information from Companies House)

Another club to look at would be Forest Green. Achieved success on a shoestring and significant owner contribution. Will be interesting to see if they survive in L2. Not sure they will

Otium/CCFC 2016 accounts Turnover £5.4m wages £4.5m Balance Sheet £14m negative Total fixed assets £600k Interest charges 2.4m Loans £8.2m. Failure

So it is possible to achieve success on fairly modest means. I expect that CCFC will remain a EFL team but will bounce between L2 and L1 under the present owners, indeed under any owner that does not have significant funds. Are significant funds likely? other than history, fans potential and the name then I do not see what makes CCFC attractive to any investor when other clubs have better infra structure. Not sure I see SISU cutting and running if the JR2 goes against them - the actions increasingly look like ways to buy time whilst finances away from CCFC are sorted out - so any investor will have to pay a ransom to acquire. The true investment value has been lost so bumping along in L2 makes not a bit of difference to SISU. In deed any level of success is a positive for SISU and could allow funds extraction (not saying they have or will I don't know)
New owners could galvanise the fans and see promotion to L1 even Championship (Burton even Yeovil proved it can be done but can it be maintained) but with much of the infra structure gone then they will need deep pockets. Then you factor in the ripple effect of the current transfers market and wages, the trawling of the best young players by Premier League Clubs etc and the pockets to great success will need to be even deeper. Thats before factoring in the rebuilding of key relationships. In 10 years time I hope we have new owners but the damage done in the last ten years I think confines us to L2 and L1 in that order - but a lot could change. A Premiership promotion I think is a complete fantasy
As an Accountant I Really miss these detailed responses…nobody else was or is in this man’s league for getting into the detail. RIP

Agreed...great to read OSB58's posts again, albeit old posts from 2017, but on the other hand, also tinged with sadness as he's not with us any longer.
He helped us all through some really grim times with his expertise and impartiality, so it's a great shame he can't see how well we're doing now.

I think he witnessed the start of our uptick in our clubs fortunes…this is why we should all take time to enjoy it whilst we can

Just looking back at what we thought was going to happen a few years back.

Doom and gloom.

Average attendance will be about a 50 year high of 24000 this season (Leeds game and play off run in will boost a bit) and we are competing up in the upper reaches of the Champ.

Happy days.
I think it's fair to say that the turnaround has surprised most of us.

Tell you what reading back through that has made me appreciate all this. Top 6 championship football seeing some great players play for us in front of big crowds and one of the best atmospheres in England. Genuinely incredible I fucking love Mark Robins so much for getting us out of that awful spiral. Season ticket holders from back then should get a ticket for life, it was so rough!

Interesting reading that prompts 2 things to immediately spring to mind.

1, Our current position (though 3 years ahead of the forecast) is far exceeding even the most optimistic posters projections, league & league position, attendances, atmosphere, financial health, expectation & the general feel-good factor running through the fan base.

All of which further illustrates the amazing job Mark Robins has done since taking the reigns just a few months prior to this thread being posted, achieving most of it under the previous owner’s stewardship and despite of the many constraints they imposed on the club.

2, This thread was so typical of SBT at that time, doom & gloom, resigned to failure und usually with about 30 odd threads devoted to the clubs precarious financial position, endless court proceedings, stadium uncertainty, food & beverage issues etc etc and then probably about 3 threads devoted to the football.

Interestingly, if pushed now to predict where we will be in 2027 🤔 I think we could quite possibly be in the Championship fighting for promotion, having spent a season in the Premier League.

Things change very quickly in football. Completely depends on ownership, the management team and luck. Good ownership and a class management team means an upward trajectory. I really have never thought we had a ceiling, as we have such an enormous catchment area. Surprised to read our gates are better this year than WBA. Our potential is greater than many give us credit for. Think small (SISU) and you will be small.

The constant since this thread started is MR.....what a job he has done and the patience he's had over these 7 years.....he's being rewarded now....new contract, untouchable from a supporters POV, able to go and sign players and a have a real go over the next couple of seasons to be a manager who has gone from L2 to Prem with the same club.

One other thing that has changed massively and will help us for the next 20 years at least imo.....the amount of kids in and around Coventry and the surrounding areas who have Cov kits or CCFC branded clothing......it's unreal compared to 2017 and that will help and increase our fan base over time. Next year attendance will drop to this season slightly (due to irregular time/days of games) but I'd say we can go towards average of 27k in 2027.....if we hit Prem then its 30k

Yes you're right.....but last summer was crazy and I think it'll go further I really do with the buzz that's being created.

Those prats may need a little more time....my mate who is 48, Liverpool fan since school with a soft spot for Coventry was so close to getting a Season ticket this year....another friend who is 57 and a Leeds fans goes City away with his family who are all Cov.......even the adults can be changed !!

To be fair, we were fucked and it was a horrid time to be a fan
Well yeah, that’s exactly what I’m saying, we’ve come a long long way in a relatively short period of time and absolutely nobody could imagine it happening.

The upturn in fortunes has been astonishing and the context of the threads posted on here reflect that perfectly.

Robins and those who have helped him over the years have overridden the ownership problems.

We didn't know at the time but the best thing to happen was Robins leaving us for Huddersfield. The idiots in charge at Huddersfield expected a sudden improvement. Their loss. Look where we were and where they are now.

Robins came back with the understanding that he made the decisions within a budget. He ended up saving their arse as well as putting us where we are now. When he came back we were worthless and they had wasted millions on their project.

I would have loved to see Seppala's face when she saw how much Gyokeres and Hamer were sold for 😁

Fisher was key in getting Robins back as manager; it was the best thing he did for the club.

Incredible to see how much everything about the club has changed, and all of it is down to Robins.

I know Sisu are now gone, but almost all of his good work so far was under their watch.

Has there ever been another club in the modern era that has changed its fortunes so much without changing owner?

I myself have been converted back to the club I used to attend games as a young lad with my grandfather at Highfield road and a few at the ricoh. Having moved to Australia 14 years ago I completely lost all interest when the club went through all its turmoil.

But the last couple of seasons has got me really enjoying football again. Managed to attend a couple of games last season when I was home for a visit. Could not believe the atmosphere at the CBS and I follow the club closely now. What Robins has achieved is incredible and its great to see everyone embracing it. This thread testament to that, fair play to all you guys back home who've stuck with the club through the tough times. PUSB!

Isn't the 15k ground SISU "plan" cringeworthy and laughable and some thought it a good idea.

In fairness, given the circumstances at the time, it seemed pretty realistic even if not very ambitious.

It shows that fans are loyal and resilient even if a bit fickle. Give them some success and they come back. Sinking practically to the bottom and potentially out of existence, to come back up through the leagues has given us some much needed momentum and faith. People are back to going regularly rather than occasionally or even not at all.

Even during our Premier League years I never knew this type of demand and fervour around the club. You would have to go back to the late sixties to have a comparison, which was the start of my Sky Blue journey. But I was a bit young to fully take it all in.

Even the FA Cup triumph was a short lived lived hump in demand and expectation (but did illustrate the potential).
