Nonsense. Who on the shortlist specifically would you prefer?

The shortlist for me on a general level is: reasonably promising Champ manager (Eustace - probably the weakest for his category but not much out there), up and coming lower league manager (Bloomfield), unknown foreign manager, and big name friend of the family who has failed repeatedly before (Lampard).

I’d go:
Unknown
Lower league
Champ
Name

Remind me, what’s Eustace and Bloomfield’s highest league position over a full season?

Since we’ve beaten Blackburn in October, their record is 2-1-5. That’s worse than our record and come the end of the season, it wouldn’t shock me to see Blackburn fighting for survival.

If you genuinely think Eustace and Bloomfield are better candidates than Lampard, reduce your doses of copium.

McKenna cut his teeth in L1 and took some time to get going with a bumper budget for the league. Bloomfield strikes me as an even bigger gamble than Lampard.

They're all gambles.
I just find the attempts to polish the turd that is Lampards managerial career amusing.

Like I say, all I'm interested in is what he does here, hopefully this is where he really shines.

I'll wait for the club to announce it before believing it, I am pretty sure this is the same source that sold Gyokeres had been sold to half of the Premier League before he ended up at Sporting.

In fairness Havertz was one of the hottest prospects in the world at the time, Werner was scoring goals for fun at his club and for his country, Chillwell at the time was one of the best left backs in the premier league, and Silva is one of the greatest centre halves ever, who was still class even in his late 30s

McKenna at least came from an elite club and was highly regarded.

As for Bloomfield, he reminds more of Ainsworth than McKenna. He’s a club legend, doing well on a modest budget at a modest club. I have a good friend who does Wycombe home and away so whilst I’m glad to see them doing well, I’m just deeply sceptical of Bloomfield’s ability to step up to the top end of the Championship.

Lampard has managed in the Prem and UCL so commands a level of respect for his work as both a player and manager. He’s coached better players than we have and at a higher level. The only managers I’d prefer than Lampard that are out of work are Potter and Moyes - two unrealistic options.

I’ll stress again that I’m still ‘meh’ about Lampard because I’d have kept Robins. When I rationalise things, he’s the best available manager out there (realistically) so I’ll give him my backing. Had we waited 1-2 months there may have been better coaches available.

Yeah, hiring some random foreigner to manage in one of the most grueling leagues with it's notoriously tough winter schedule coming up and an already furious fanbase on his back, that is a recipe for guaranteed success right there!

It’s still a ‘jury’s out’ rather than ‘steaming turd’ in my view. If he fucks it here he’ll make like Gary Neville and never manage again.

There's one thing I really like about Lampard, I think some big name players go into management just because.

I get the impression he really wants to work hard and make a success of it. Of course that doesn't mean he will, but I like his attitude, or at least, what I perceive to be his attitude.

Agreed. It’s also academic because Lampard wouldn’t have had a lot of control over transfers in the first place. The only big flop on that list is Werner. They at least made money on Havertz who is now a key player at Arsenal now and Chilwell was a top Prem LB before he was plagued by injuries.

Jody Morris’ TalkSport interview was illuminating because he always felt that he and Lampard were almost ‘used’ by Chelsea as a stop gap. Tuchel, or someone of that calibre, probably wouldn’t have taken the job under a 12 month embargo.

So does Rooney to be fair, he just hasn’t got a clue of how to work with players who aren’t world class. We’ll soon tell if Lampard is the same.

I think Lampard was out of his depth at Chelsea and frankly, even world class managers have struggled there.

He did what was expected at Everton and Dyche doing a better job isn’t an indictment on him. Dyche is more experienced as a manager, especially teams at the bottom end of the table.

Listening to him on the ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast, he shouldn’t have went back to Chelsea for that second spell. That’s what’s really tarnished career. He met objectives at Derby, Chelsea and Everton.

This is it. He keeps coming back for more when I imagine he doesn't really need to financially.

Maybe it's like riding a bike, and after a few spills he'll learn how to balance and there'll be no stopping him 🤷‍♂️

And Havertz wasn't a bad signing in any event and is still playing at a top club. I'll take Chilwell on loan if they fancy it

If you’re hiring based on the next few games you’re hiring the wrong person anyway.

Any foreign manager will likely be there because their record has highlighted them, the closer to this league you go the more it’s who you know what you know. I’d rather a manager, any manager, who is hired because of his record not his surname. Ideally in that list I’d replace Eustace with a Mowbray or similar who has been around the block a bit more. That’s why he’s third in the list of four. But he’s in a job in the Championship and I’ve always liked him as a person which puts him above Lampard.

Their start will be key though. I really don’t see an any manager surviving a poor first month or two given the circumstances. That’s why I’m ok with Lampard because he has a few things going for him that might help him start well.

There's no way I'd have Mowbray back tbh (plus he won't be going to anyone for a while I'd imagine)

Was the first kind of been around the block Championship manager that came to mind. But there’s not many about, hence why Eustace is who we could find I suspect.
