We have a virtually empty ground, so offers today should have been get your tickets for the next couple of games for a tenner each.

Well your colleagues are either thick or trying to make you look like a tool. It is perfectly fine, unless someone personally objects, to use the word black. Whether that is to describe a non-white person or when referring to the colour of an object.
