In light of the likelihood of losing O'Hare on a free transfer in the Summer I thought I would look at some of the players our Championship rivals could also lose that we might be able to bring in ourselves. I've left out over 30's as they don't seem to fit into MR's masterplan. Source is the transfermarkt website so blame them if contract detail is not correct :)

Leeds - Cooper/ Drameh
Leicester - Praet
Middlesbrough - McNair
Millwall - McNamara
Norwich - McCallum
Preston - Browne
QPR - Willock
Rotherham - Rathbone
Southampton - Adams
Stoke - Campbell
Swansea - Walsh/ Wood
Watford - Ngakia
West Brom - Kipre/ Mowatt/ Chalobah

I appreciate Che Adams might be a push given he is likely to have PL suitors but what do we think about the rest?

McCallum to get his emotional reunion with Robins?!?

I wouldn't rule out over 30s. We've lost Fadz, Kelly will go, Goddens future is uncertain and I wouldn't be surprised to see Bidwell moved on. An experienced pro or two would be useful.

Praet is almost certainly too expensive wage wise, not that we should be interested anyway. He’ll almost certainly be in negotiation with several European clubs.

None of those stand out. None of them I see going to premier league. Apart from Callum Ohare.

We've banged on about McCallum every transfer window since he left. Age aside I don't see how he is any better than Bidwell (contracted until July 2025) or JDS (contracted until july 2027).

The only put of contract player I'd be interested in is O'Hare. The list is players who will be after a Prem side/Prem wages or players not good enough to take us forward.

The Championship isn't the level we will be looking at to buy players either. Those good enough will come with hefty price tags. For instance Whittaker of Plymouth would be a brilliant signing but he would take all/more than our budget to sign.

There's always a few gems in League 1. Players abroad in most countries cost less than here. Think we will go down that route again.

Lots of good players above but how many would come in and nail a first eleven spot down ? I reckon it’s going to be a very different window this summer with ffp dictating things, thankfully that won’t affect us.
There are going to be a number of PL players up for grabs also even money bags clubs Chelsea & Newcastle have to sell big to buy.

Possibly because the OPs source for contract info (TransferMarkt) says Blackburn have an option for another year?

Ah could be then. But yea we enquired in Jan but asking price was too much so possible we are waiting to see what goes on with the contract situation

Been keeping an on the Brighton CM Leonard, on loan at Northampton, since we were linked. Looks very promising and we defo need another CM tbh.

Never say that to Mark Robins.

He will probably spit in your face.

A piece of trivia for you while I was looking at this list which I hadn't previously known, but one of those players listed is the son of ex City player, Dean Gordon. Any ideas without googling?

Id look at Alex Mowatt on a free tbh
Baggies next season will be interesting. For me they are overperforming and it's a squad of experienced Championship pros rather than exciting sellable assets. Can't see them having much room to manoeuvre in the transfer market, new owner or not.

The problem Albion have is they now have a new owner who I’m sure in time will put funds into the club but at the moment they are hamstrung by ffp and incoming Government legislation they have a number of players on PL contracts who they need rid off but they will want their contracts paying up but ffp won’t allow it.
They have a good productive academy but I know of three in the last 12 months who have been sold off, there might be more.
West Brom aren’t the only club with this problem by the way a number of PL clubs are in the same boat.

As I said above the summer window will be different to before. In our case it’s going to depend what market MR is shopping for.
Of the above list the only one I’d be interested in is West Brom’s Kipre my idea of a good proper centre-half but then again we supposedly have the lad from Peterborough lined up I’m assuming it’s Ronnie Edwards might be wrong.

Kipre or Edwards or shall I be bold and say both.

Kipre's a bit of a brute and probably not MR's type. The Swansea lad Wood could be interesting though. He had a fantastic season last season and played very well against Gyokores at their place. He seemed pretty quick, and being at Swansea will be used to playing out from the back. Last Summer he would have commanded a hefty transfer fee. Not sure what's happened to him this season but given his young age he strikes me as the sort that MR, Viveash & Lawrence could turn into a top player.

Id leave that list well alone, we have and can find better the model we are using is very clear and obvious.

Really? I think MR and the recruitment team are looking at all options. Yes we have brought in Saka, Wright, Torp and MVE from Europe, but we also brought in Collins, Thomas, Kitching and now EMC from League 1, and Dasilva on a free transfer from the Championship. The only clear and obvious factor these all have in common is that none are over 30. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we try to strengthen our squad with a couple of young proven Championship players amongst others, although obviously there would be a reset if we actually got promoted.

I agree with everything other than the young, proven Championship players. They come available but at a very high premium. We just got ripped apart by one from Plymouth. But we would have to break our record signing again to get him. But at least as good as O'Hare.

I would take Drameh from Leeds thought he was brilliant for Luton back end of last season but not sure he would fancy coming here to play second fiddle to MvE

The part im seeing clear is the length of contracts we are now giving out and the age bracket we seem to be targeting. The benefits to this type of model are obvious and in my opinion is the right way to go. The other change is the use of the loan market, its clear Doug doesn't like that method for incoming players but outgoing he seems to be using it to potentially develop our own.

Free agent market is no doubt a place to look and im sure they know who is going to be on that list. The level doesn't seem important, its more about the individual and how long they anticipate that player will get up to speed. We don't sign players who are the finished article, , we bring them in to improve them, expose them and no doubt will sell when the time is right. Since Doug has come in the pattern is showing and the recruiting has got better and more beneficial to the club. Robins and his staff do a great job with the players and can only see us getting stronger. Good times a head and im sure we will come close this season to making Wembley again..

Just don't send talented players of our own out then, perfectly adequate cover playing at Lincoln!
