Particularly large sums of money clubs don't have . Too many on here have short memories and those of us old enough remember the ridiculous Richardson "soft debt" quote when he had accumulated shit loads of hard debt.

The same applies to the belief that debt isn't bad if it is serviceable debt? The problem comes when you keep reaching out and reaching out beyond your means. The creep creep and then the seesaw tips and all of a sudden you are in the shit.

Gamblers addiction syndrome. Gradual losses compel you to risk more to win it back.

That was Richardson to a tee.

I do get how you feel and there needs to be more parity. But I also understand why parachute payments are there.

I wonder how you would feel if Cov had got promoted last year, pushed the budget to try and compete but just missed out at staying up?

I doubt you would object to that financial assistance helping us to balance the books, honour contracts and having another go?

I don't know what the answer is but can see both sides of the argument.

The point of the parachute payments is to essentially protect a club who may have high earners on their wage bill and may not be able to shift. What we’re seeing more and more is clubs coming down and mortgaging against their future parachute payments to give them a warchest to get back up. The whole scheme needs rewriting at the very least.

Exactly this. I think parachute payments need to exist in some form, just the way it works now is floored.

Local journalists breaking transfer news?
And not being blackballed by the club they cover because of it?

I was told we shouldn’t expect this from Andy Turner because it would jeopardise all our transfers…

Saddle’s source has been leaking team news and transfer speculation for a good while and the club clearly doesn’t care that much.

Liam Rosenior apparently turned down a second interview with Sunderland, this after Still turned them down at the last minute too. They seem all over the place and struggling to get a manager in. Could be a good bet for relegation

Very unlikely to go down in my opinion, but they do have a good tendency for self destructing.

Sunderland are a basket case club, but my money is on Oxford, Plymouth and Millwall to go down
Sunderland have such a strong fan base, that it has to be incompetent management that derails them consistently. That Speakman is under constant attack by fans and media. The chairman, billionaire's son, is also in his mid twenties and lacks experience.
