By the public, yep, but not by critics I don't think. Very much admired for their invention and artistry. What a catalogue that band has though considering they were best known for a couple of singles. Really underestimated band for me.
No. Packed in gigging back in about 1982 I think. Andy Partridge, the main writer and singer, suffers from stage fright and he walked off stage once in a concert and they never played another gig after that.
He's already going to hell after writing Dear God, so I don't think he is afraid of much at all to be honest.Yeah I'd forgotten about that. Maybe stacks of cash might make him a bit less scared?

'I won't believe in heaven or hell, no saints, no sinners, no devil as well.'Did you make disease and the diamond blue,
Did you make mankind after we made you!'
My favourite and very apt in these times.'I won't believe in heaven or hell, no saints, no sinners, no devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown, you're always letting us humans down.
The Wars you bring, the babies you drown.'
Beautiful!

FFS I really wanna join.By the way: I propose that the CCFC's one and only vegetarian 'firm' should henceforth be known as 'The Cherry Tree Club'
We could wear some nice clobber, crack a few skulls and then go for a nice vegetarian meal.
We need to meet up at Dosa Plaza if it proves to be nice!By the way: I propose that CCFC's one and only vegetarian 'firm' should henceforth be known as 'The Cherry Tree Club'

All this talk is making me want to play all the back catalogue.
What's your favourite XTC song then, people!?
Back on topic. Statue of Liberty for me - or the cover of All Along the Watchtower.
Both from the excellent first album.Back on topic. Statue of Liberty for me - or the cover of All Along the Watchtower.
I love XTC but no cover could match the original of All Along the Watchtower.
Both from the excellent first album. All along the Watchtower is just mad, but I love it. I love the way Partridge uses his voice almost like a weapon.
First three albums are terrific.
That was exactly the same for me. They were still really quirky, but had lost that edge I felt.I stopped buying XTC albums after Black Sea because I thought they'd become rather plain. It's only recently I came to appreciate the later albums.
I've actually just heard that XTC are indeed reforming and the title of their new album will be entitled the Cherry Tree Club. The "Cherry Tree Club "
The Infamous " C T C" rooking to the sounds of "X T C"
Second single 'The Matalan Can Can 'I've actually just heard that XTC are indeed reforming and the title of their new album will be entitled the Cherry Tree Club.
First single off the album 'We're only making plans for Chickpeas.'

First two are very experimental in places. It's good but more poppy than the first two albums. It is good pop though.
