One thing I would say is, people are setting themselves up for a massive fall. If I was an opposition fan looking at this forum and seeing like 6+ threads on us being in the championship etc and we didn’t make it, I’d be thinking smug/arrogant pricks. For example, imagine if Sunderland were in our position and had that many threads on it. I’m not saying don’t get excited, it’s the most exciting time as a cov fan most of us have ever lived through, but there are still five games that need winning.

To be fair, if any team were 5 points clear with a game in hand having only been beaten 3 times this season, many would say they're rightly taking about going up.

I do get what you mean though.

Fully agree. Uncharted territory for most of us to be in this position at this stage. Teams still breathing down our necks. Rotherham looked pretty strong to me. Rochdale looked dog shit, yet look what happened yesterday. I’ve seen bigger leads thrown away.

That Rochdale pitch looked horrendous, alot worse than when played there! Would have thought that would favor Rotherham than Rochdales style, excellent how Rochdale mixed it up similar to their direct goal vs us).

Hopefully Rochdale do us a couple more favors there think oxford have to go there.wont enjoy that pitch.

Sunderland were in a similar position last year maybe even better, lost even fewer than us. But then failed to win a single game in their last 5.

Way too early to consider autos.

For goodness sake. It's that Coventry thing again isn't it? Pessimist the vast majority of you. Live a little we are top,5 points clear, game in hand. Whats's not to like?
Nick..."not getting excited"? Jeez what does it take to float your boat!
IT's not a case of setting yourselves up for a fall, we may yet crash and burn and lose in the play offs. But we are looking odds on now, so let loose a little, add to the positivity. Thousands of fans chanting " we gonna win the league" is positivity, and can only help drive it.

Out of the remaining games I can't see us not getting 5 wins.
We can take Shrewsbury, Lincoln, Blackpool, Burton and AFC with confidence and grab a few draws out the rest no problem
If injuries occur along the way we have a strong bench of players to step up and slot in.
It's only a matter of time in my books.

I love you're confidence! Its not like we've only lost 3 games all season

I don't agree people are necessarily being pessimistic, I think there's just more a sense of realism amongst the fanbase as so much can happen in 10 games. I think every fan would be lying to themselves if they claimed they weren't excited but you see it season after season where a high flying team fall at the last hurdle. So, as a result we need to be careful believing the league is already won otherwise we most certainly will be at risk of setting ourselves up for disappointment. Look at Ipswich as a case in point. First 11 games they were unbeaten, then in the next ten games they won only twice, subsequently picking up 10 points. This league is so competitive so just enjoy the games as and when they come and hope the run continues.

Of cause they are being pessimistic as you are now. Ipswich were early leaders so plenty of time for that to change. We are at the final hurdle now, which is different, and sit top in good form unbeaten for what 14? Only 3 lost all season and needing 5 maybe 6 wins in 11 to secure promotion. That's realism. Embrace it. Only we can stop ourselves from being promoted now. W e are not reliant on other results. We just need to keep our results going and it will not matter what anyone else does.

Have you never seen a runner/horse fall at the final hurdle? I'm excited and enjoying it (despite the tension), and I think everyone on here is too, but there's no way some of us are setting ourselves up for that fall just in case. We've spent far too long as City fans to take anything for granted. When it happens we'll be jumping for joy and going nuts. By that stage you'll just be "I knew we would". If we didn't manage it from this position how crushed would you feel?

Other than Rotherham away I don’t think there’s been a league game this season where we weren’t the better team. We are the best team in the division and deserve to be where we are because we’re the best.
Enjoy it.
I said yesterday, I’ve been supporting us for 45 years and have never been in this situation.

I wouldn't be crushed, we have had a fantastic season. Best for a very long time. Listen no disrespect but you are talking about setting yourself up for a fall. It's not a horse race, its played over 44 games and acumilating enough points. We are very close and would be a calamity in form not to be promoted from this position. I just don't see that calamity happening.

After 34 games last season, Sunderland's record was W18 D14 L2, so 1 point better off than us and a very similar record. To think they ended up 5th from that position.

Not saying this will happen to us, but it does illustrate how a team pretty much unbeatable for most of the season can suddenly go on a bad run out of nowhere.

I'm not setting myself up for a fall. You potentially are though by acting like it's done and dusted. I'm more than hopeful we'll get autos and really like our chances of taking the title, but there's no way I'm taking it for granted it until it's confirmed.

There's 10 hurdles in a race and 30 jumps in the National. Just because you've cleared the first 9/29 and have a healthy lead but you're not exactly cleared many of these with room to spare comfortably it'd be folly to assume you're going to clear the last one and precisely how you come a cropper.

One game at a time.

I have been quite positive about our chances of promotion (I’m usually the opposite!) but I don’t see it as setting myself up for disappointment. I’m fully aware that we may not do it, and if we don’t I won’t blame myself for thinking that we would / should / could.

I don’t believe in tempting fate just like I don’t believe in mermaids, the only ‘issue’ I see is other fans giving it stacks if we blow it and they read some of our more presumptuous threads.

In fact if we do blow it, can you delete all of the positive threads please @Nick ;)

No issue really; other fans can take a running jump at themselves.

Not getting carried away but what part of the city centre will people be to watch the champions/promotion bus parade? Just asking, like.

Book a table with a balcony view at one of the restaurants in Cathedrals lanes, do it in style.

27-30 points all to play for still. We’re ahead by 5-7 points.

We’re in a great position, but it only takes one slump.
