So that would be in Stoke's favour?

If your boss said to you, "Do a good job and I'll extend your 3 years contract to a 5 years contract" Are you legally obliged to sign the extension? Of course not!

This is a bit like Leon Clarke, when he signed he was shit because he was a free transfer from Scunthorpe like Stokes was a forest green rovers reject. Now there is outrage at the thought of him playing in the Championship.

He looked a good prospect last season but didn't have the fitness, the pre season did him wonders. Even though he has the extra year, I'd be happy if we signed him up for an extra 2.

It depends on the contract I signed in the first place doesn't it?

Do you have a link to your proof of this?..... If the lad has as you say already signed this"Extension" then more fool him.

Surely it is a 2 year contract he signed effectively but with a clause the club could get rid / release after 1?

The proof is that everywhere says "in the clubs favour". If Stokes could just walk away, that would make it in the players favour.

Its a lawful exercise, which I believe he agreed to on signing the original contract.

Last year the club offered Stokes a 1 year contract, and told him if he had a good year they would take up a further years option - this can be done by the club without need for further signature.

Stokes signs the contract agreeing the one year deal, and that if he wasnt up to it, he would be released, but if he was the club would take another year option on him, without the need for another contract needing agreeing or signing. He has therefore alreday signed the contract in 2015.

We did it with another player, I cant recall who, and if I can remember will post it later. If you dont believe it, thats up to you, I have only genuinely posted what I know.

This short contract policy we use costs us more money in the long run than say a 3 year contract. Once a contract is less than 12 months players value drop significantly, the ball is firmly in their agents hands, the player knows who are interested, the proposed wage performances potentially drop. Let's take Chris Stokes as an example on a 2/3 year to run contract I would think a fee in excess of £500k could be achieved on a one year of less from about 200k to nothing

Not saying I disbelieve you. How many times have I made statements and backed them up with proof, yet am still called a liar? (Grenduffy saga springs to mind) Mind you after 4 years he finally admitted it. ;)

I think this policy was a sensible one to prevent a David Bell situation. We offer Stokes a long contract while he is still unproven and he fails then we either can't get rid or have to pay him off. The 1/2 years means he needs to prove himself and then it triggers an extra year. That year gives us to then sort a new contract if he has performed well, which he has.

I may well be mis-remembering, but I thought that people were pretty excited by the signing of Clarke.

As for Stokes what percentage of people on this site would you reckon posted that when he signed he was shit because he was ........ was a forest green rovers reject? Was it above 90%, or was it a handful?

Not having a pop at you Nick, but there does seem to be an increasing tendency on here for sweeping statements about "everybody said that...", when actually there were two posts (or similar).

I guess he couldn't make the Forest Green Rovers first team but he can make ours
Am I really paying for this garbage.

Terrible really. Is there no bottom to how far we have to sink? No offence to the lad

I haven't seen him play but i I didn't see McQuoid play either and I knew he was shit before seeing him play.

A young lad not able to get into a team in the Conference expected to drop into a team leaking goals and no midfield capable of accepting a ball off him other than pass it back to him

We are signing reserve players on a 28 day loan from Forest Green. When will we finally hit the bottom ?

We used to send loan players to Nuneaton know we have to borrow players from the mighty Forest Green.

or is this another signing by the director of f'ball SW, who of course is vying away from the loan market

Ferdinand and Wright weren't reserves in non-league though, were they? It's quite extraordinary that a L1 club has signed a Conference sides reserve LB. I hope he does well, but I doubt that he will based on the simple fact that he can't get in a side 2 divisions below us!

Look, we signed Hussey when he was the best LB in the Conference and he wasn't good enough. Signing someone who isn't in the top 10 LB's in the division isn't going to work! He's been signed by our new/next manager as one of his mates. Like Adams with Watson and Impey or Jim Smith and Carbonari and Trollope. And we know how they worked out too, don't we?!?

Id say at a lot of those posters would be raging if he went to the Championship, just judging by their posting behaviour that is!

On the thread where he signed, I'd say that about 80 - 85% of people were not happy. There was a couple of people saying wait to actually see him play first.

You would hope that along with the extra year that the player would get a pay rise as a result of it being exercised.

It's called hindsight Nick! You've never made a comment about a player and been proven 100% wrong... Have you?

One of those looks like my statement I am happy to have be proven wrong as at the time we signed him it seemed desperate but the coaches must take a lot of credit for his improvement

It's more common sense to wait and see a player play. It was more about people angry at SISU because he was a forest green rovers reject and not Luke Shaw.

Hindsight? Calling a player "shit" before he's kicked a ball isn't hindsight or fortune telling it's just slagging a player off.

Oh give it a rest. 70 mins to go!

Like I said hindsight!..... Love a pound for everytime I've seen that written on "The Wall" this season.... and if you actually read Nick's post only a couple slagged Stokes, the rest were dismayed at picking a player that couldn't make the first team 2-3 leagues lower than us.

What if e.g. Forest offer £200k for him? Sisu bound to accept....

There was more than a couple.

There is a difference between slagging a player before ever seeing him play and knowing nothing about him. To saying "X player is playing shit today" and then them scoring a goal after. It is still the same fact they were shit before they scored...

So what if a league from above offer to buy a player from a league below? Is that just extending away to more what ifs to get angry about now it's being shown its in the clubs favour for his contract?

And now has turned out to be one of the buys of the season and an absolute rock for us. "Dismayed" my arse.

All posts that you put up on here to support your case. Not slagging but genuine concern for an unproven young player that's all ;)

Is this you trying to twist my words, A la Grenduffy?...... Nobody more happy for the lad than me Torchy. Pity you have no comprehension of the meaning "Hindsight" Look again at my last post, with Nick proving my words to be correct(His postings, not mine) ;)....P.S. Yes Dismayed is the right word ;)

It isn't with hindsight, it is people commenting on us signing him before seeing him play or giving him an actual chance. Judging him and his signing on Forest Green Rovers, not him as a player.

Most were using it as another way to be angry at the club. My point is that some of the same people would be angry if he went after a year and blame the club for not giving him 3-5 years after they were angry at them for signing him in the first place.

Your obsession with me is up there with Tonys. Do you want a signed photo off me? Shall I put a kiss on the end?

Who says I'm angry? I'm not. Just pointing out that those pointing to the "option" meaning he'll definitely stay, overlooks the fact that we might accept a bid..

Why be angry. Super Ryan Haynes can take his place and we have made some money as well.

Yes please Grenduffy, but I'll send you a photo of my arse for you to kiss.

Well it's where most of your posting history comes from so fair enough.
