Did u listen to him talk about it??? If u haven't u should have a listen!! Basic salary we can not compete with championship clubs but there are other ways in which they can offer a reflective deal! Think its down to David in where he goes!!

We can't afford any wages with less than 3000 paying supporters coming through the gate every fortnight, but we can apparently afford to hand out a reputed £6k a week contract to a player who never plays ?. Who knows what McGoldrick will do come January but i believe this saga is just what SISU or Fisher or Waggott didn't want. After spouting about this new SISU dawn with gaffa Ms. Sepalla taking personal hands on interest a couple of months ago they could do with this like a hole in the head. We struggle to get 10000 through the gate now if McGoldrick leaves that will drop like a stone. I think they are banking on us beating Morecombe today and drawing a plumb third round cup-tie and also beating the Blades next week and getting to Wembley in that dodgy cup. Other than that where does the money come from ?

Tbf, and not that I think we have a huge chance of keeping him, Waggot did say we can't afford the basic wage he's on at Forest but could put a different package together based on bonuses. He also said they wouldn't talk about money at all until he wanted to stay based on feeling at home, living near his family, trusting in Robins as a former striker and being loved by the club and fans. Again, history tells us he won't stay but it wasn't 'we can't afford him' and he certainly never said he'd be gone in January. At least wait for them to fail before saying they have.

Plus, even if they put on the official site he has signed for us and Robins confirms it...it still has a 50-50 chance of not being true ;)

longer contract with the same amount of money hes already getting could be offered as well! as ccfc1979 said an attractive package could be drawn together, but if clubs in higher leagues come along its down to him what he does! Seems January will see alot of coming and goings mind!

sadly we cannot compete with the wages and the sooner we all come to terms with this the better!!!

It's not a surprise it was always a long shot being able to keep him, but as he has done so well and helped to start to turn the season around we will all look for straws to clutch at in hope. Just hope that if/when he goes we can perhaps bring someone else in to score some goals, as although I rate Cody I am worried about the lack of time on the pitch and hence goals he has had this season.

just to put another spanner in the works ............ if you are subject to say administration or a winding up order what is it that you are automatically under ? ........ embargo. Is that likely well ? certainly increasingly seems that way :thinking about:

Finding a suitable wage or shipping out players (if we can at all) to afford him might actually be academic.

I think SW all but said it wasnt going to be likely but you cant expect him to come out and say there is no way it will happen.

Rupert Bear is right (how weird it feels typing that) - with so few Coventry people supporting their team what do they expect? The Coventry football public don't seem to understand the role they have in making the club better. If you don't turn up don't bleat.

Longer contract with same amount of money is still a lower salary just a longer contract, also a package based heavily on bonus's would still need paying at some point (winning, top 6, goalscoring, etc) but I would imagine the only way to bump it right up would be a hefty promotion bonus, which although I think we will be challenging for automatic promotion next season but promotion isn't guaranteed.

Places like Leeds, Sheffield, etc are a similar traveling distance to Coventry +/- 15 mins commute so there are still a number of clubs he could go to which wouldn't necessarily mean uprooting his family.

I did listen to Waggott and to me he said the right things but I didn't get the sense of him being optimistic about it.

I'm sorry but if we let go 3 players in Jan who are on around 2-3k then that adds up to 6k+ added onto the 5k we could probably already give him then that's over 10k
There's no money excuses Imo

Sadly you just cant 'let players go' mid-contract....you would have to pay them off..costing money we dont have

Who says we can afford to offer him £5k pw anyway? Them there's signing on fee and agents fees plus the important one - the payment to Forest in the first place. And regardless of what you can afford fees and wage count towards the financial FairPlay rules, and we don't want to go over that and get an embargo as we also have a number of other loans to replace.

....and there's the small matter of owing £900k to ACL, and also trying to balance the books against the backdrop of derisory crowds.

Why should he take a chance on a package that my say his wages rise if the fortunes of a badly run football club who have done nothing for ten years suddenly change? His other option is to take a basic that reflects his worth without the risk associated with the former.

SW talks it from his point of view, after checking with the hierarchy,
we will not be given any inf. on wages etc.,
but just wait for the tripe to be trotted out later this month,
all sisu claptrap

Clearly Cody McDonald is not liked and won't play so can't we get rid of him to fund his wages?

does the cup draw against spurs mean we might be able to do something regards a deal. 300 grand in the coffers as a result. i know we have got other bills to pay but it might well be worth the gamble. would our owners look at it this way ????

A resounding NO. That money will go into the Sisu coffers never to be seen again. Come on, you must know by now how these idiots work!

Ship a few wasters out the door and we can afford him. Simples. But will he have a more tempting offer from somewhere else?

Into SISU's coffers? What planet are you on? It will just help to fund the weekly deficit.

Amusing how most people on here play the moral high ground regarding rent yet think the club should spend well beyond their means and sign a player we simply cannot afford.

Exactly my thoughts Grendel. People talk of 'SISU lover' blinkers but the exact same applies to the 'haters' as well.
