Deals on the table - Dulieu
Ken Dulieu has admitted that Coventry City have offered Sammy Clingan and Martin Cranie new deals worth £8k a week.
Speaking to the CT, Mr Dulieu said: "Sammy and Martin have had contracts on the table for four months and they are really good contracts.
"If you look at the average Championship contract being £4k a week I can tell you they are double and we can't go much higher than that.
"It's no good saying we can go to ten, twelve or fourteen."

Looks like the typical... we offered them the best deal but they turned it down and we have no option but to sell them in the Jan transfer window... :jerkit:

It's probably true. Clingan at least has turned down an offer from Leeds because he wanted £15k.

I think Cranie made his mind up to go while being used anywhere bar centerback under previous managers.

sell both at jan if they haven't signined! 8K a week isn't bad though some times footy players probably think they deserve better, the way the world has gone with money are they??

Can't help thinking they'll probably want to leave even more now because Ken 'discretion is my middle name' Deluded has revealed the details of their contracts...the guy just can't keep his big mouth shut

S'funny how things are only undisclosed when it suits them, eh? We should start playing the Empire Strikes Back music now Ken's in the dugout as I don't think there's been a worse bastard, fictional or otherwise, since Darth Vadar.

£8 grand a week and they still won't sign shows how much they hate playing for the current owners.Or are they just greedy bastards, there not worth half of what it's take somepeople 6 months of hard work to earn.If they don't want to sign for that get rid in January and get four players on £4 grand a week instead.

thinking about it, now Big Kens opened his trap they wont sign, i dont think people should know what players are on and i think they will take that into consideration!

As i said decent offers in our current state but if they want more we cont do anything, so Sell!

Sorry, but get rid of them both, think they are both excellent players that we should be building the squad around, but there's no hope of staying up this season and we are going to be stuck in league one with players on big contracts. Cash in and start building the team for the league one season now.

Fire sale in January. Lets not do a westwood if people dont wanna stay then we need to sell unless there is a glimmer of hope they can help us stay up. If we a fooked in terms of points in Jan and there is no hope we may as well sell as many players as possible and try and build from that.

If i had my way I would probably have everybody that has been associated with the failure of our club on notice now and rebuild from the core.

To be fair they probably want to go because they don't want to be playing in league 1 next season. Not looking good for Sky Blues so they'll be looking to jump ship

Anyone like to share why they think Clingan is worth £8k a week? From what ive seen of him this season, he doesnt deserve half that (ironically thats probably what hes being paid).

I think history will repeat itself when it comes to Clingan - he'll run his contract down and move on to (what he considers) bigger and better thing. Only thing to our advantage is that everytime he's moved on a free, the team he has gone to hasnt always done better than his previous club (didnt he move after Forest came up, and went to Norwich, who went back down to where he'd come from with Forest only 12 later?)

If players feel like that this early in the season then I would stick them wit the reserves or whatever we call them and let them rot. If i was chairman and they wanted to harm my club I would do my best to harm their potential. Nobody is bigger than our club well player wise and we shoukd be have a tough stance here. 4 months no signing contracts, bye bye.

Obviously i wold try and sell them first though!

Exactly, their employer is unstable, offering uncompetitive wages and dropping in level at an alarming rate. They are or were recently playing international football and have potential employers offering double their money.

Seriously, what would you do?

Plus, 8k average means that half the league is earning more than you....... Get my agent on the phone!!!

Realisms a bitch!!

Exactly, it's all relative. We can't offer big wages, other teams can so it makes the fans think the players are being greedy. But they can get bigger wages at better teams that will be playing at a better level than us.

And it's put the word "wages" in my post twice in a row even though I didn't write that?

I think they are very good players but in this climate £8 grand a week is a very good wage.I wouldn't of given contracts To the likes of Bell, Mcpake and maca new so if we read into what ken's saying is that's these players are on at least £4 grand a week.Absolute joke

It has to be said that at the core of the destruction of our football club are players wages and agents fees. If its true 8K a week in anybodies book is a small fortune.............and from evidence of results and performances there is not one of them that deserve that sort of ridiculous money. Until the authorities get a lid on this, clubs will continue to run insolvently until they cannot sustain it.

I couldn't agree more. Relegation might be painful, but we have the basis of starting strongly with experienced players (on£4k a week) who can help us rebuild -- a few older heads coming towards the end of their playing careers at a higher level, plus our existing talented youngsters -- and the future's bright (particularly if SISU has gone!)

8k is more than fair if Ken is telling the truth, neither have been worthy of such wages this season.

I suspect the contract is more like 5-6k with 2-3k bonus if Cranie scored 20 goals or something stupid like that.

Good Dulieu has told us what is going on but he shouldn't had told the public what an employee will be earning if he stays . If I was Sammy I would leave to go to a decently run club, getting a better wage and having more job security giving the one fingered salute to Orange as I went

Yet another understand and unprofessional move by our new manager (only a matter of time). I cannot understand what this cretin hopes to achieve by revealing the confidential aspects of an ongoing negotiation. Does he think we will suddenly fall in love with SISU for giving us information? Or that we and the other players will turn on the "greedy" players for asking for what they feel they're worth and thereby destabilize the team even further? He is just paving the way for their exit in January and then claim they did all they could. Just feck off you grade A Orange turd - you're a joke and not a funny one.

If it was any other club stating that their best players had been offered a handsome pay bump and contract extension, then there would be no complaints. All of the focus would turn to the players in question to see whether they would take the club up on the offer.

The problem we now have is that anything SISU does or doesn't do is perceived to be negative. If they don't communicate, they're slated; if they do communicate, then they're full of it. If players' deals are expiring, we accuse SISU of being too tight with their money to offer a better deal; when SISU say exactly how much money they've offered in terms of a contract extension, they're slated for breaking confidences. If SISU offer a £2 discount for booking tickets early, it is seen as SISU fleecing the walk-up crowd for an extra £2. And so on.

It really has become ever-so-slightly bonkers around here.

EXACTLY. What Ken has done is virtually guarantee they will not sign. It's a "take it or leave itr" offer, intended to publicly shame them and excuse their sale at Xmas. It is every bit as disgustingly Machiavellian as the way they leaked the Hoffman investors identity to the media. They really are dirty, slimey underhand bastards! Confidentiality is not a strong suit-apart from whenever it's a question asked of them. Then they've just ace at keeping their gobs shut.

Which is exactly why Ken did it. Underhand tactics again.

So its ok to reveal exactly what players are being offered. But to reveal length of other contracts is undisclosed, transfer fees received or paid undisclosed, loan fees undisclosed, directors earnings undisclosed, owners names undisclosed, why CEO suddenly leaves undisclosed - yeah cannot imagine why people question this slimeballs motives for suddenly becoming so candid with us unworthy franchise holders.

So can we at least be clear about this, then: you would prefer no communication or details whatsoever? Because I'm really not defending how SISU operates this club, but it strikes me as being a little hysterical for fans to complain about the lack of communication, and then complain more so when they get what they sought...

Nonleagueherewecome

No, we want a bit of consistency. They only reveal figures or details when it suits them-to manipulate the fans against the players/justify selling them in this instance. They haven't told us what they offered Westwood, or the length of McSheffrey's deal, or how much we got for Turner/Aron, or paid for Lukas, etc et bloodycetera!

ashbyjan

Well-Known Member
Exactly - they only break confidences when it suits them - revealing name of one of Hoffman investors to scupper that deal, now revealing exactly what they are offering players during a negotiation to either show how magnanimous and generous they are being and these greedy uncaring players are snubbjng this offer and the fans - thereby justifying selling them in Jan. To be honest most fans would agree to their sale if they haven't signed new contracts as we know that money won't be reinvested in playing side so if it helps hasten SISU pecking off then good. If ken wanted to ensure they won't sign revealing details of ongoing terms of negotiations is one certain way to ensure it.

Whatever the rights and wrongs we can't sustain wages of this level in this league with our debts let alone dropping into the one below. I can only assume its panic and the fact we will get no fee for them without a lengthy contract. If we are losing anything like the reported figures then this is simply madness. In fact I had assumed that the one thing SISU were achieving was to get us on a good weekly budget of being able to cut our cloth within our means but it appears even that isn't happening.
