Clingan & Cranie Offered £8k A Week Deals (1 Viewer)

Rob - which reported loss figures? The figure changes each time ken opens his gob depending on what point he is attempting to make. How do we know we cannot afford such wages? All we know is what it suits ken to say - he's an ex copper so he is probably unfamiliar with the term truth.

Long before Ken we required 23k per game to break even. Since then we've lost another 5k per game from that figure. 8k per week for any player at our club is simply ridiculous.

But we have also slashed budgets and expenditure all over the club - didn't you see lens article telling you what a marvellous job he'd done in cutting costs. Not having a go but we simply don't know what is going on financially because its all shrouded in smoke and mirrors.

I'm not disputing any of that. We know Ken is spinning it, but the two matters (imo) are unrelated. My point is that whatever spin is put on it we are 100% losing money every week. We have a declining fan base which with impending relegation will get worse with even lower crowds and less income from the league and tv fees so paying £8k per week is unsustainable and ludicrous to even offer.

It's not that bad, IMO. I mean, that's £400k a year, or £1.2m over three years. It would be hard to replace a player of Clingan's quality for 1.2m including transfer fees, agent fees, and wages. Not just that, but you're securing an asset who could be sold for cash, recouping most/more than what was paid in wages.

Is he massively better than when we signed him for a fraction of that? Older too would be amazed if we got over £400k for Clingan now.

Think we'd be get about 1-1.2 mill for the pair. If we sell Lukas as well, that could double that figure, with about 60p going towards the transfer budget.

Anyone like to share why they think Clingan is worth £8k a week? From what ive seen of him this season, he doesnt deserve half that (ironically thats probably what hes being paid).

I think history will repeat itself when it comes to Clingan - he'll run his contract down and move on to (what he considers) bigger and better thing. Only thing to our advantage is that everytime he's moved on a free, the team he has gone to hasnt always done better than his previous club (didnt he move after Forest came up, and went to Norwich, who went back down to where he'd come from with Forest only 12 later?)

One thing I will point out is this common misconception that Sammy ran his contract down at Norwich: he didn't, he made a transfer request, and we paid good money for him (after a lot of SISU haggling). That good money we paid is obviously part of the supposed 30m, so can we at least try and get a bit back, unlike the Westwood money? I'd say the same thing about Cranie.

But 8k p/w is not a lot in football anymore. I'm sure that both will get a lot more than that elsewhere. I strongly dispute Ken's claim that 4k p/w is average-he must be including every single U-19 player in the league to get that figure. Take Pompey-Kitson and Lawrence will be on 20-25k minimum.
