Reports around Liecestershire say Coventry's Sammy Clingan is set to leave his current club to join fellow championship side Liecester City for a reported fee of £1.5million.

I think that Clingan sould leave as I think that money would help strengthen he squad. But I don't rate Clingan highly.

What do you think?

I think he is too similar to Lee Carsley and they wouldn't fit in the same team.

He is great with set pieces as we have seen last season but with him and Carsley in the middle we wouldn't have any legs at all. With Doyle playing there he does the running for all of the midfield.

What did we pay for him when we signed him? Wasn't he free?

I don't know about anyone else but this smells exactly like the sort of WUM articles we use't to have to put up with on 606.

Can you provide a link to back up what your saying? No, didn't think so.

And I really can't see Leicester willing to pay £1.5m (to us especially!) for someone we got on a free.

I think carsley is a quality player but now carsley is in and the two play a similar role then he does no longer fit in the side.
If we get 1.5 mil for him then go ahead and sell him!

Nick, I spent enough time on 606 to smell a WUM a mile off.
This isnt gossip, its just pure made up! But just forget it.

/back on topic.

Leicester can have Clingan for £1.5m all day long.

Every time I hear Boothroyd say we need to sell some players I hop ehe doesn't mean Clingan. Yes we've got Carsley who is a very similar player, but he won't play 46 games. I just think Sammy wit his qualities in passing, tackling and obviously set pieces means he is just too good a player to sell just because he's not starting right now. I'm sure this rumour is not true, we couldn't sell a player of that quality to a local rival and i don't think we would get 1.5 mill' for him.

Carsley is a super player for us but when we get into that period where we're playing games Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday and the games are coming thick and fast I think we could do with the young legs of Clingan for the tough Tuesday night games to give Grandpa Lee a break, we don't want him getting injured he will be key for us in the final months of the season if we want to challenge in the top half.

Naturally, what with my username and all, I don't want to see Clingan leave (Nick, if this does happen, can you change usernames? :p)...

Seriously, though, I think the Coventry squad would be poorer if we sold Sammy- he's the best free kick specialist at the club, he's one of the more creative central midfield players and we're gonna need someone to adequately replace Carsley and possibly Doyle when Carsley's legs start to run down and Doyler picks up one too many cards. Put simply, Clingan is that guy.

I'm gonna come off really controversial here, but there's several other players who should go before Clingan:

Isaac Osbourne is tough tackling, but he's been injured since forever, it appears. Perhaps it's time for him to find his niche elsewhere. The same with Deegan, although on reflection, I would keep him to see how he does when fully fit.

Gunnar: the guy had a very poor last season, despite being one of Coleman's first names on the team sheet- his throw didn't damage any other team or produce anything of real value, and he appeared generally ineffective- plus, the multiple injuries he's suffered recently. At best, Gunnar's a best impact sub midfielder for us right now, but because he's young, we'll definitely get a million (if not more) for him.

I also noticed the Richard Wood to Sheffield United rumour here: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/co...d-consider-richard-wood-swoop-92746-27132189/

Again, I wouldn't let him go- look what happened to Sheff Wednesday after he fell out of favour with Brian Laws...

You just know that if Clingan moves to Leicester, on Sept 11, he's going to score in a second consecutive Cov-Leicester derby at the Ricoh- but for a different team...

Clingan for me is the best footballer at the club.We must remeber that Carsley has only probaly got a year in him.Maybe when Sammy gets the chance he'll keep his place.Although he's a quality player,it's all about picking the best team, not the best 11 players,as England managers always seem to do.To sell Clingan would be mad,let them have gunarsson instead!

Why does everyone seem to thing Clingan and Carsley are too similar?! They are nothing like each other! Carsley's game is all about hard graft and winning the ball back, and trying to give it to a more technical player to do the rest. Clingan is the COMPLETE opposite. He recieved the ball, and is very sound technically and has very good vision and awareness. They couldn't be more different really. They're roughly the sane size, but that's as far as it goes in my opinion!

I only say they are the same sort of player because they both aren't the quickest and both like to sit just in front of the defence.

Unless he played with 5 in midfield with wingers and another like Gunnar in midfield who will go forward I don't think it will work with them both.

I think we need to hang on to Clingan and Gunnarson, and now is not the time to be selling.
Its not a large squad and we'll be needing players before long for injuries, bookings, etc.

I'd definitely keep Clingan, although Carsley seems to be above him in the pecking order, Carsley won't be playing week in week out like most people have said, and Carsley's only on a 1 year deal as well I believe, so if does leave after the year, we'll have Clingan to come into the team, I think it's a good sign though that Aidy has a selection headache in most positions :D

Anyone know whats happening with westwood, cause apparently new contract talks are stalling even though its an improved offer we have put on the table
