Probably because I don't think he's any good. It worked perfectly well before. Too many cooks and all that!
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
I wish him no ill but he's a BBC presenter, people will have there opinions. He should be thick skinned or he shouldn't be doing the job. Do you think people like Lineker and Vine don't have there criticsThat's fine , but you can't tell me I'm crying about rob gurney when you've been slagging him off for over a year mate come on .. suggesting fans should lay off him is more than reasonable
A perfectly reasonable post .. without the unnecessary nastinessI like Rob & he holds a special place in the heart of a lot of us because of all he's been through with Coventry back in the good/bad old days.
I also enjoy much of the debates, arguments and teasing between him, Clive & Oggy. I get annoyed at Clive a lot for getting names wrong (almost any dark skinned player seems interchangeable to his eyes) but having been forced to listen to comms from our opponents a fair bit on iFollow, we are extremely lucky to have the team we have, there are few better.
Since Rob's return to CWR, I definitely have noticed how negative he tends to be when commenting during the game particularly, he can kind of suck the energy out of it. I think this is really because he's a fan and really incapable of separating that from perhaps the tone he / we might prefer. Last night's phone in was a bit over the top and "meta".
If I had Rob's ear I'd just encourage him to ease off a little bit and perhaps skip the self-referential texts / emails / calls for a while and focus on the football and genuine contributions. People will soon get bored of this and we'll all enjoy ourselves a bit more.

Which is why you dislike him , just say thatHe wasn’t with us as a pundit in the bad days. He left as soon as we were relegated and commented on Aston Villa
So he got promoted? He wasn’t with us as a pundit in the bad days. He left as soon as we were relegated and commented on Aston Villa
Why was he questioning the attendance,it didn't seem off to me, like the old days of Wasps it was?
He was obsessed with it though, we all know a lot ST holders didn't turn up, he didn't shut up about it either. Same when he was calling Blackburns support patheticInside the ground there were a lot less than 24,000 but it’s just season ticket holders clearly stayed at home
To be fair Clive is obsessed with gloves and pink boots. He was obsessed with it though, we all know a lot ST holders didn't turn up, he didn't shut up about it either. Same when he was calling Blackburns support pathetic
He was forced out by Strachan/Richardson who banned him from the club for speaking out about him and the owners. So not leaving as a choice of his own really. He wasn’t with us as a pundit in the bad days. He left as soon as we were relegated and commented on Aston Villa
He works for the BBC, so it would have been inevitable. At this rate the same will happen again. He was forced out by Strachan/Richardson who banned him from the club for speaking out about him and the owners. So not leaving as a choice of his own really.
I enjoy listening to them on I follow, they are passionate about our club.
Not sure what people want really!!
This is best conspiracy of them all. King was so desperate to sack Robins that he gave him and AV new contracts not all that long ago.RG crossed a boundary over the change of manager. Wrote on the BBC website that King was obviously waiting for an excuse to sack Robins and the three game winning streak only postponed what was inevitable as soon as we lost to Derby.

It’s not being touchy and King wasn’t desperate or looking for an excuse to sack Robins. He lost his job because results weren’t good enough and we needed a change.Robins and Viveash signed their new contracts in May 23, was, Gurney saying King wanted to sack them then?
Or was he referring to the rumours doing the rounds at Preston away on Oct 19th 24 that Robins was going and Lampard was coming in?
Because I doubt King decided to sack Robins the day before he did so if he's intimating he'd decided weeks before that's just standard practice in football.
Not sure why he'd bring it up but equally not sure why people get touchy about it and refer to it as a conspiracy either. It happens all the time.

Perhaps conspiracy was the wrong word but he lost his job because of results and nothing else. But the rumours started in October so I'm not sure how you can dismiss something as a conspiracy if it comes true!
I heard the rumours and they were posted in one of my WhatsApp groups on Oct 20th, I thought it was bollocks but clearly it wasn't.
Yes, it was based on results, but it seems King had made his mind up for a few weeks, that's not a King thing, or a CCFC thing it's just a football thing so it's nothing earth shattering, (look at the recent saga with the West Ham manager).
But using words like conspiracy is just using language to try and belittle people who don't agree with you, which is doubly ridiculous when what they say actually comes true.
I was genuinely concerned for Rob on Tuesday. I found it very odd that he said the words to the Bobby Thomas song twice albeit without the swearing and he definitely went down a rabbit hole and made it about him unfortunately. Would make sense for the production staff to screen the texts, assuming they have the personnel, to help the show to flow better.
I think Clive and Oggy are great. Clive has delivered some iconic goal comms and I think Oggy has come on loads, is erudite and worth listening to. Having listened to comms from other clubs, we’re doing pretty well with these guys.
Great comms for an iconic moment
His commentary of the liam Walsh goal was fabulous tooClive's voice cracks when we score late are genuinely brilliant.
Do agree about the filtering of messages sent to the CWR commentary team as well. I'm surprised there isn't some kind of editing in place, and I think they literally do just read what gets sent to them over Twitter or text.
BBC budgeting and all that I guess
Surely someone filtering if they don't know or understand the situation wouldn't have a handle on what to filter and if they do would only filter those that agree with their own line. I don't mind them being unfiltered, also many of the same opinion might make someone think if there is a trend rather than one message. What he needs to do is take out the personal and emotional stuff.
"Dougfest", is this an annual event.I prefer to have Rob Gurney on the radio talking about Cov than not but his return has made me appreciate Clive Eakin a little more if I’m honest.
RG crossed a boundary over the change of manager. Wrote on the BBC website that King was obviously waiting for an excuse to sack Robins and the three game winning streak only postponed what was inevitable as soon as we lost to Derby.
Subsequently he (although he was not the worst in this regard - that was Lorna Bailey) mistook the role of the radio station at the Dougfest fans’ forum. In their eagerness to “represent the fans” they forgot to analyse the “news” coming from the club and they missed out several juicy pieces of information that Doug King and Dean Austin said that night. Instead they repeated most of the lines that King had rebutted in the opening minute of his statement. Tbh many a club owner would have refused to deal with him or his organisation after such hostility.
I didn’t hear what RG said after the Norwich game. I was at the game and not listening and was too angry myself with the outcome (esp Lati’s failure to tackle after getting back into position despite being fouled in the run up to their winner) to be bothered to listen online, but there was a hostile atmosphere among our fans - and for the first time I can ever remember from some Norwich fans towards us.
Listening to the phone in on the way home up north lately RG has been a fan. He was angry after the Leeds game feeling we didn’t even try to compete, he was amused by a lucky victory over QPR and was refusing to see recent results as evidence of an inevitable march to the premier league. I am largely in agreement with both of these views but he sounded snippy and self-obsessed on Tuesday night. It didn’t make for good broadcasting.
All in all, something isn’t right. I hope it gets back to normal as I was pleased to welcome his return but I suspect eyebrows will have been raised at the radio station and probably at the club.
People saying Rob Gurney “ruined” the post-match phone in.
It’s not the high-mark of Reithian output. It’s a local football phone-in!
Try listening to any other regional Beeb footvall ouput and you’ll realise how good you have it in Cov.
Whenever I listen, and before it goes out of range, it’s always an entertaining listen. As others have said, the paucity and quality of the fans calling in doesn’t give them an awful lot to work with.
In short, Gurney/ Eakin/ Ogrizovic rule.
