It must be hard to see over the far side of a packed penalty area under lights, and add to that the pure excitement and adrenaline of scoring a last minute goal brings. Easy to say it is a mistake in Hindsight, but it was a split second thing in which he made a comment, and quite quickly and rightly corrected himself

David Coleman too, so much so that Private Eye has a column of pundit gaffs called Colemanballs
They published a few books of collected gaffes years ago, I have a couple somewhere.

Strangely, there was a time where I wasn't massively keen on Clive, but over the course of our recent seasons I'm absolutely sold on him. He's been there for so many great moments recently it's hard to imagine anyone else doing it.
Yep, I used to dislike him a little as he was forgetful, a Tranmere fan and replaced Gurney. But RG spent years not watching us, pretending to but commentating on the PL with Villa etc, no way could you do that if a a genuine fan. I actually prefer Clive these days and Gurney irritates me.

to be fair things happen so fast - we were sat above them for the Derby match ( sorry to bring that up ) but we could'nt work out with their view how they had scored their first but Rob and Oggy had a fair idea ( it was the other end from us) - on Wednesday i was speechless when the goal went in jumping about with my fellow fans but Clive ever the professional got the right person in the end - he's gold compared to some of the drongoes from the other local radio stations

The commentary for Hamer’s goal against Luton in the final was brilliant. Oggy in the background too muttering “come on” and then “bury it” when it came to Gus.
But Clive going “here’s Hameeerrr!” - class.

best goal I’ve ever seen live and possibly the best bit of Cov commentary too.

I imagine he is in his 60’s now and it’ll be a sad day when he inevitably decides to call it a day.
If you want an example of how good he is you only have to rewind a few years and listen to a previous side kick of his who also used to commentate occasionally-Geoff Foster. 🫤

I was at the game so didn't hear it live, but heard it back many times since and I'd say the winner at Wolves is my favourite. Genuine excitement in his voice and it reminds me so vividly of my own feelings on it going in. Special moment.

Maybe when Clive does retire we should show our appreciation towards the end of his final game with a rousing rendition of his name.

Though naturally we'll have to call him Geoff Foster or Rob Gurney.

We should’ve done it at Wembley

I think it might have been the semi final at Wembley last year where Clive and Oggy were shown on the big screen and got a massive cheer from our end. Or maybe it was the play off final...
Was a really nice moment anyway
Beauty of that was the TV commentators were going on about how Cov fans were showing appreciation to their former goalkeeper Oggy when we all knew it was a cheer for both of them.

Maybe we should have the Clive Eakin media suite?

Rob clearly loves Coventry City and he lets his heart rule his head at times which clearly isn’t professional but can be quite endearing as a City fan. Whether he is around next season who knows but you clearly don’t need Clive, Rob and Oggy all covering the match And Clive does the difficult bit which is the in match commentary, but that said this is the BBC so they will probably add another in !
It's a bit like football in general,a job creation scheme, referee's,staff involved, sky and all the hangers on.
I often wonder just what gets made in this country and wonder if they will expand at some to be our whole GDP!

Yeah same - was there but one of those where I had to try and find it after just to hear it.

I listened back to the montage they did after robins was sacked earlier today and yeah the wolves ones are pretty good to be fair. I just liked the Hamer one because it was like it was ‘the’ moment we were going to score and be back in the game and that came across in the commentary.

I believe they did it at both.

Anyone have that clip of the Luton goal? All I can find is the sky(?) commentator.

My favourite one is this:

None of the clowns like Peter Drury or the plethora of human sleeping pills they have on most channels can hold a candle to Clive.

Until the club fucked the website and app you could get the full match replays with CWR commentary

I used to enjoy watching bits of the game back with the radio commentary. I know you can probably still listen back to some of the radio commentary on BBC Sounds, but I do like it with the picture too.

I also didn't mind flicking the audio to the away commentary. Still enjoyed the Reading commentator having a meltdown for Godden's last minute winner a few seasons back, think he complained about time added in stoppage time. Guy sounded like a right whinging little gimp.

Yeah I remember that, their commentary team were dreadful. The best others I've heard is Middlesbrough (Neil Madison ex Southampton and Boro is their co-commentator)
