Think he had a stroke didn't he? He played in goal once for a team I was playing for (I scored....which is more unusual than Geoff being in goal) Nice bloke - think he liked rugby more than soccer.I think he took early retirement, he'd not been well for a while
who was that bloke ages ago we had who couldn’t string a sentence together and just gave his interior ramblings and paused mid sentence as something was about to happen? is that rob gurney? had the paramount + commentary last night sounds like a blessing
not clive i love clive, he’s head and shoulders above any other local commentators.
I love the CWR team. Whatever we think of them, they surely don't deserve the shit they get on the phone in each week.
There's nothing like seeing us win a game and getting in the car in a great mood, only to put the radio on and want to crash into Blue Ribbon Island 5 minutes later because the third caller in a row has said we played shit, despite not only watching, but after us winning so convincingly.
"Hi Clive, been a Coventry fan since the 60's but not been to a game for 10 years. Think we should be playing 4-4-2 with Fabio Tavares and Jodi Jones up front next game"

Foster was a taxi driver that somehow managed to end up helping out on the football commentary at BBC CWR.I think he took early retirement, he'd not been well for a while
Oggy is quality even if he did shout at me and my mates for messing about whilst he was waiting to bat at Cov and North Warks in the 80sOggy is quite good in that respect. If someone phones in and says a certain player was shit, even though they were actually very good, he will let them wrap themselves in knots and then gently talk them down once they've finished spitting and steaming.
Come on guys, we could be listening to Adam Dent.
Come on tell the truth you two footed himI saw him get out of his brand spanking M3 and slip over right on his arse once, was hilarious.
Geoff Foster i think that was it. I know someone said he wasnt well and not sure if that was related but he was truly terrible at commentatingSounds like Geoff Foster or Martin Winch who I’m sure was just employed to drive the others to the game
My wife walked in as Leeds scored their first and said “ Can’t you find a Coventry commentary? He sound’s like he’s having twins”His commentary for the goals yesterday was pretty good
Great idea but we all have to forget the words half way throughSurely it's time to give him a song!
He used to work at Lloyds Bank.Foster was a taxi driver that somehow managed to end up helping out on the football commentary at BBC CWR.
ClI’ve doesn’t hide the fact that he supports Tranmere but is an adopted City fan and the commentary away against Wolves (example) proves his genuine passion and will go down in history with me
To be fair there isn't any particular skill to being a football commentator, I doubt there are many that were always intended to be oneFoster was a taxi driver that somehow managed to end up helping out on the football commentary at BBC CWR.
What a great moment that Forest winner was, not spoken of that much but a really pivotal moment imo
like to go back and watch this now and then

Why wouldn't he be?I always wondered how or why Martin Winch also ended up being featured on CWR.
Bit like people supporting the council throughout the Wasps shit show.Rob Gurney is one of the good guys. Am I imagining it, but do we struggle when he is the commentator?
Agree with Grendel shock about Adam Dent. His interview with GMK founder Neville Hadsley who was threatened with legal action by McGinnty was despicible. Nev was possibly going to lose his home for criticism of the City Chairman and, as you can imagine was seriously distraught. Dent went for the jugular supporting the club, as he often did.
I thought that was me!He really is the pissed up old bloke in the pub who sits in the corner mumbling that nobody ever listens to. Fuck knows why they brought him back, he's terrible.
Perfectly reasonable at Norwich. This is escalating quickly. Next it will be "Rob disarmed a police officer and baton charged the Norwich end whilst screaming fuck you delia down the mic"
42I saw him get out of his brand spanking M3 and slip over right on his arse once, was hilarious.
My thoughts exactly.I think Rob is a good presenter, but it does seem at times he's a fan first and commentary is second.
When we win, it's endearing but can be painful when we're losing.
One text in last night was seeing the positives of the game and he pretty much dismissed it that they'd seen the same match and come to a completely different conclusion.
I can't agree entirely. He just gets way too excited. His commentary on occasion suggests a City goal is imminent when the reality is its a throwing to them !Clive's genuinely one of my favourite sports commentators.
He can be a bit erratic, but he's knowledgeable, engaging, fair, and fun to listen to.
Some of his commentary is iconic.
Geoff Foster had a really nasty stroke and had to retire I think, happy to be correctedGeoff Foster i think that was it. I know someone said he wasnt well and not sure if that was related but he was truly terrible at commentating

What a time to be alive!
He used to work at Lloyds Bank.
My brother worked alongside him, but I have no idea on dates.

Socially awkward?I have no idea on dates
I doubt it because my brother died some years back and died in the US.They used to be an item too?
