Posh (with their strongest team) are losing 1-0 to Chelsea kids (and loads aren't playing as on loan). Man City kids through to last 8. If either makes the final, is that the final nail?

I would think so - would lose all of it’s credibility.

Don't think the youth teams winning it is particularly a problem, they're there to compete not just make up spaces in the groups.
Even if one youth team walks it then fair enough, there'll have been plenty of young players who got meaningful game time for less competitive teams.

Yes, but how weird. having 30k fans one end and a couple of thousand at the opposite end who don't care.

Another way of looking at it is many people thought that when the elite u21 teams were allowed in they would sweep all our teams away
After all Chelsea, Man City and so on u21 sides will be on vastly more money than any senior team they face from Divs 3 & 4. They also buy in the best youngsters from Europe and beyond, many of whom are age group Internationa players whereas most of our teams are journey men mixed with our own, local youngsters
Despite that only Chelsea have got as far as a SF so far and looked nothing special against League 2 Lincoln last year.
Happily Lincoln beat them on penalties
We all know that L1 & 2 sides only put out full teams in the Checkatrade in the SF at the earliest.
Let's face it our day out at Wembley was brilliant even though the majority of fans ignored the early rounds
Since then MR has correctly targeted the league but I think the Checkatrade has a place but perhaps in a different set up, with all knock out games instead of a league in the initial phase

I’d have been genuinely embarrassed if we took the numbers to Wembley the other year against an under 21 team. I wouldn’t have gone.
