And I know it wasn't you, but for anyone to call fans who have been going up for 50 years or more 'wankers' because they wouldn't wish to move, well that is very much something every decent fan of this club should take objection to.

Well I object to 'fans' telling other fans to be quiet. I've had this from some guy last season; angry looks when clapping or joining in with songs - and even a comment of "I don't need you shouting in my lug-holes".

This is a football stadium we're talking about here - you DO NOT ask people to be quiet - and if you do it's YOU that has the problem.

There are NOT designated 'quiet' areas of football grounds. As much noise should be generated as possible. No wonder away teams have such an easy time taking points home with them.

People have the right to remain silent - but it is hardly the epitome of great support likely to galvanize the players. To tell other people to be quiet; yes that is being a w*nker - regardless of how many years they've been going.

Also - closing the back rows to get us all closer together will create a much better atmosphere and will generate more noise at pitch level. 'Supporters' should get onboard with such initiatives - we need to make home advantage count.

Who cares what fans who are probably the most loyal the club has ever had want? We need all the fans we can get for Christ's sake!!



I said they want their peace and quiet and so find a quiet part of the ground. There have always been quiet parts of the ground for this club and every other club in the country. The game has been going for nigh on 150 years and it's always been like this.

There is hardly any noise at all in Block 20 ever so these people go there. Some have been supporting the club and been season ticket holders for up to 50 years more more. You would seriously just go up to 70 and 80 year old blokes says say 'tough' you've got to move?

This isn't about me. We've been at the Ricoh now 7 seasons haven't we? I've been an ST for every season here and have moved my seat 5 times in that time.

If the football ground was noisy and historically noisy then you might have a point, but it's not and it was exactly the same at Highfield Road. The Main Stand was just as deathly quiet. No use bitching about it, it's a fact and just the way it is and has always been.

If people go into blocks 18, 17, 16, 15 etc and then start moaning about the noise then of course they should move!!

But the Tesco Stand has become the equilivent of the old HR Main Stand, that is indisputable. The Main Stand now at the Ricoh was always set out to be corporate.

It's been quiet and will always been so. You can't change the way people are. It will always be relatively quiet in certain areas of the ground!


The bloke in the row in front of me I guess would be well in his 70's. He brings his transistor radio and just sits there quietly never ever saying a single word to anyone.

There is a couple behind me, again must be well in to their 70's at least and they bring their binoculars, flasks, picnic rugs and are as quiet as mice.

We can all say how we want it to be, but I am just telling you what it is.

I don't agree. I enjoyed the east stand. Didn't fuck around with the " Cringe" chants" but got some good noise going
I remember getting goosebumps when the whole end sang the dion so ( go west) on their feet for what felt like 5 minutes

Seems abundantly clear to me. I see many of these OAP's struggle to their seats and taking ages to get up the steps and then find they are sitting really high up in the stands. That tells me they want somewhere quiet.

And Cyril, think about it, it has always been like this and was exactly the same in the Main stand at HR. This year's 40 and 50 year olds are going to be the next generation of 70 and 80 year olds. It's always been the same and it's just a conveyor belt.

Could be true for the majority of them. My personal experience on the previous page was an example of old boys in block 20 taking exception to singing. That's out of order!

This is my first season in Block 20 and it is indeed deathly quiet. Some don't even speak let alone sing!

I've never experience that, I've had my ST in that block for the last 5 season (I take my grandad who's 80). It's pretty quiet but they have never moaned at me singing and occasionally swearing.

The 2 main reasons we lack atmosphere and noise at the Ricoh is

A) crowd are too low for the grounds capacity - its regularly 50% or below
B) the away fans are seated too far away fom the home fans

Historically you're correct - and I've not said otherwise. What I'm saying is that it can be changed. People from Coventry aren't inherently quieter than people from other parts of the country. Get a few years of success and it would all change as numbers would shoot up and younger generations would attend - and it's them that make all the noise. The Ricoh isn't a quiet venue - unlike Highfield Road where the corners weren't filled in and the West Terrace had a low roof on it so nobody could hear us.

What annoys me is the lack of noise from other areas. I don't mind fans that don't sing especially if they are past their singer age! But when you go to other grounds, let's say The City ground, Forest you have every end making noise! I haven't seen that since Chelsea or Blackburn in the cup.

Yeah, I think that's because their grounds are far fuller - which means they have fans close to the away support. I can see why they put such a huge gap between the sets of fans at the Ricoh (easier to police things), but it really kills any chance of banter.

Cuople of decent songs, then just half hearted attempts at blue moon (I think) al la sky blue song, dying mid way. . Our fans say that our songs are crap, not inventive and our 'mong' fans need something simple. Us and man city
Must have something in common as this was the song that they wouldn't stop and loved it. Good craic, fans bouncing, and pretty much as simple as it gets....

Yeah, I think part of it is the songs themselves. There are songs which naturally loop (like that no limit one) and then there are others that naturally come to an end and have to be started all over again.

Numbers are important too - need people to be close together also. This is why the idea of shutting off the back rows really appeals to me. It won't happen though - because some people don't want to get involved in making noise - or are picky about their seat.

Shame - as Coventry City used to be well known for it's innovation and doing things first.

Old people are set in their ways Rich. You won't be able to change them.

Take my mum and dad for instance. Both 82. Incredibly set in their ways, won't change. Tried reasoning with them with no success.

They don't drive and walk to Asda to do their shopping every Tuesday and Friday. Rain, shine, snow, hail, blizzard, tornado. Plus 30 degrees, minus 20 degrees. It's about a 25 min walk and they go whatever without fail.

They go to the same fruit and veg stall in the market and will only go to this same one stall. When the stall is on holiday they look at each other and wonder what on earth they are going to do.

My dad will not use Direct Debit or his debit card. Refuses. Doesn't trust 'them.' He will only go to the one same cashpoint machine in town and refuses to go to any other machine. If it's broken it's broken and he won't get any money out.

My mum and dad pay all their bills in cash and have to go to the Council House to pay their council tax. They won't set up a Standing Order or Direct Debit.

My mum and dad are not unique, trust me. There's something about old age that seems to send people this way. Talked to many friends and they have said that their parents have similar traits. I.E queuing up at the post office half an hour before it opens etc.

Nothing to do with being old, just how you grew up. I know many 30 year olds with no debit card because they don't trust it.
