Not bothered if we win league 1 - promotion back to championship will do just fine ... as England is the only other team I support (despite Terry & Rooney) I guess I would like to see them win the Euros - it's strange to be feeling confident about the outcome of any game to be honest... I've had enough disappointment already this year so a bit of England success would be a real treat before we all return to the dark depressing reality that is CCFC

I wish them well and will be happy if England won... But honestly I don't care either way... I usually only watch them to see if they have gotten any less crap! I could never show the same passion for my country as I do for my club. International football just doesn't have the rivalry or appeal for me... When England play I feel like a neutral supporter.

You see, what I find difficult in that is the fact that anyone who plays for Coventry City is just doing a job and it could quite easily be any other club they play for rather than us. Think most of the players here don't give two hoots about CCFC and it only truly means something to the odd one or two and the local lads who feature for us.
Footballers are mercenaries who will usually just follow the money and have little or no interest in the likes of Coventry City FC or anyone else for that matter.
To play for England is a honour. Or at least it should be.

What I don't get with England fans is that they will slag players off week in week out in the Premiership then cheer them when they put an England shirt on. I don't think there is too much honour in playing for England nowadays. Going by how piss poor THEY* are.
The England attitude annoys me. The expectation that they are a big side who somehow deserve success. Still going on about '66 and all that nearly fifty years later. It would be unbearable if England actually won something, but that is never likely to happen.

England ARE a big side - hence the reason why many nations would like to beat us and see playing at Wembley as an honour.
I think you're confusing what England fans believe and hope for with the media world in which we unfortunately live in. Footballers are not angels, many of them odious individuals, but were it not for their profiel and god-like status of the sky sports era and intrusive press we would not know about their personal lives in such a nature. Unfortuanately many seem unable to separate their personality from their feelings on them as a footballer. Gerrard, Rooney, Terry and Cole have all hit front page headlines and as such been labelled scum. Whetehr they are is not for me to judge but they are unquestionably four of Englands better players and all are or have been very capable on the world stage.
The "you always go on about 66" I have heard constantly for a long time now (usually from jealous scottish, Irish and Welsh fans) but tbh I have rarely heard it and certainly don't use it as a stick to benchmark current ability - why would I as it was before I was born. I think it's a case of "well others say it, so it must be true".
At all major tournaments there are a number of sides capable of winning. From my recollection England have been one of those but failed to deliver. However that doesn't necessarily mean they have under-achieved as two closely matched teams can easily go either way and the odd decision, bit of luck - run of the ball etc can make a world of difference. Right now, they are the only UK representative (again) and despite being slightly lacking in quality compared to Spain or Germany, have (assuming they get out of the group) a chance of winning the tournament. That's not to say they will win it and in all probability won't but there is a chance and a chance better than many other teams.

I have no idea who you've been talking to. Pretty much never hear any England fans I speak to still going on about 1966. You will also find that this 'expectation' of the England fans is in fact 'expectation' spun from the deluded minds of newspaper sports writers.
The fans themselves are much more down to earth. Think the only time I believed we were going to win the World Cup was when Sven Ericksson told us we were going to win the World Cup. I trusted him as the manager to know what he was talking about.
Ohh, and I never slag any England players off. Ever. Once Rooney became an England player then from that point I have done nothing but back him for his club. Same goes for Lampard, Gerrard, Cole etc.
I know some do, but that's usually just local rivalry and such. I have pretty much always backed all England players.

Depends on the circumstances I would rather England win a major tournament rather that get promoted from league 1, however if we are talking about getting back to the premiership or winning the FA cup it may be a different answer.

That we have different views? Yes. Yes it does. The differents is when I put my point across I don't call people names and resort to sending abuse there way.
If your wondering why I think country comes first, it's because a club represents a small part of football while the international team represents the entire country and the best of that countries home grown talent. I can understand if people feel differently. That's there view and I respect it just like they should respect mine.
