Couldn't spot a thread for this. Whats everyone looking forward to? Cricket for me, seems its being pushed as almost a test for getting it into the LA Olympics.

Missed the opening ceremony but from social media it seemed long. Anything worth going back and watching?

Would've been more interested if it was outside the football season. I've enjoyed the women's euros, but doubt I'd have watched as many games if it started now. In fact if they want the game to keep growing I'd target times when other leagues are closed.

Do they have football?
No

Off to the Ricoh tonight with some freebie tickets through work for the Rubgy 7's and then off to Birmingham Uni tomorrow to take in some hockey.
Love the Olympics / Commonwealths.

Love the Olympics / Commonwealths.

Get there early. Just been to the morning session, 8:25 queued got in 9:10, queue was 4 times longer by the time I got in than when I joined it.
Spoke to a flustered security guy who said 60% of staff hadn’t turned up!
Airport style person and back scanning in place only 3 of the possible 12 open.
Only about 7/8k in the ground max, I’d imagine the other sessions will be busier as well.

Hopefully they’ve learnt from this morning!

Cheers for the heads up. I'm in no rush getting in as the tickets are freebies through work but that sounds a ballache. Hoping it's much better organised at Birmingham Uni for the hockey tomorrow as I really don't want to miss any of that!

Just randomly got chatting in town to the Aunty of two Australian athletes who are both competing in the judo on Monday.

Over from Sydney and staying in Cov for two weeks!

Sian Rainsley of Coventry Godiva Harriers came 12th in the Women's triathlon this afternoon.

Kare, also of Cov Godiva, is competing in one of the wheelchair sprints over the weekend... she has a number of paralympic medals to her name already.

I was up at the Rugby Sevens on saturday evening courtesy of a last-minute freebie from a friend.

First off, the queuing was a complete shambles. Basically the entire crowd had to go through that temporary scanning area outside the casino, so the queue was right back round to the bridge by the A444. Took well over half an hour to get in and there was basiaclly a couple of police trying to marshall the entire crowd. A really poor show and missed the first match (didn't particularly bother me, but my mate who is a big rugby fan and had travelled from the Peak District was somewhat cheesed off).

Crowd was perhaps somewhere between 14-16000, and typical commonwealth games crowd.... lots of families and kids. Similar to the women's football i would expect.

Some games were really good.... Aus vs NZ women especially, and i think Uganda vs Sri Lanka was decent.... however at the other end of the scale a lot of games were so one-sided as to be farcical.... players unable to kick the ball to the 10-metre line to restart, etc.

Very. Not sure about opponent but got a great jab on him

Going on thurs so should see him
He fought last night and I literally flicked onto the red button just as he was coming into the ring.

Have to say after the 1st round I thought the Indian fighter had too much for him and Bowen couldn’t seem to get his range right as his opponent was very awkward and physically bigger.

Glad to say I was wrong and in the second and especially the third round Bowen found his range and starting connecting and Kumar was blowing and not throwing his own punches.

Great result against a much more experienced opponent and guarantees himself at least a bronze!

I’m struggling to keep up with what’s happening when ! Glad he made it through. Saw a couple of half decent Indian fighters when I was there yesterday actually. Best performance was probably Gemma Richardson though. She looked good !

Just seen, Bowens boxing in his semi in 20-30 mins (red button)

Nearly typed ‘Bowens got his semi in 30 mins’ but didn’t want to cause confusion !
