Think people are forgetting also that before we even think of extending wage budgets, paying fees etc, a massive chunk of wages is being made available purely off the deadwood were shifting.

Kelly 10k
Waghorn 15k
Kane 10k
Walker 10k
Dacosta 5k
Rose 8k
Bapaga 1k

Thats almost 50k a week off the books. Invest that in 3 proper top half championship quality players at just over 15k a week and we're instantly better off before we even think about anything else

(Ball park figures of course)

If we’re going to keep our best players then the cost of season tickets will need to increase big time to cover their wages . I am happy to pay 25-40 % more next season to cover the wage uplift if that’s what it takes ..

I'd get them tied down to long term deals if possible, can't help but think that if none are interested in staying long term, we maybe better off in selling two and rebuild, but use the other two as almost an insurance policy to give us that bit of extra quality, just to help keep us up if the new signings don't work out as expected, but it would mean losing them on a free the following summer. Big summer for King, I wonder if Fraser's will be willing to put in any money. Relatively small investment on their behalf could see their brand banded all over the place.

Signing a new contract doesn't mean he'll stay. It puts him on more wages and us in a better position to negotiate higher fees. And as Boosh says, should he get injured before his big move he's on better terms with us.

When you look at it like that, it seems the logical thing to do for all parties, doesn't it?

Every point on here is just confirmation bias ha. We’re applying logic and reason to what we want to happen.

In the summer, maybe he could’ve signed another year. But if a player has intentions to leave in 4 months, they don’t sign a new deal to help their current club out. It hurts their future prospects by reducing the number of offers on the table.

Trouble is the squad is paper thin as it is. If we have 8-10 players going out it might free up a good chunk of change for wages but you can't just bring in 3 or 4 players to replace the 8-10 or the squad gets smaller again. We can't just have a first team squad of 14 players and the U21's if Doug is serious about us pushing on.

I can't see anyway we can keep all of Vik, Gus and Ben and make the improvements in the rest of the squad that's needed. I haven't included Cal as no one is buying him after he's been out for 9-12 months.

We'll have quite a bit of free wages from those leaving, but if we're looking to increase the quality we're likely to not get as many players in as leave, and the squad is already suffering from being low on numbers.

But of those players signed new deals if gives us that flexibility to sell them for a good fee if we needed to. If they don't sign then we're really looking to sell them while we have the chance.

I still think at least one of them will go for one reason or another. I do think O'hare will sign a new deal for that security after he's had a couple of big injuries.

Really need Howley to step up and one or two more along with Eccles and Burroughs to solidify their place. And we’d need better luck with key injuries than we’ve had this season. If not we need 12/13 rather than 7/8.
