At least it's an early decision, this time.Furlough extended again
What if their parents need someone to come around and do things on their behalf?
How big a fine would you give me for seeing my last grandparent on Christmas Day?
How big a fine would you give me for seeing my last grandparent on Christmas Day?
Well you don't send a school child round to fix it!
A little story for you. My parents boiler packed up in October. Local gas company who they have their service plan with turned up. Engineers masked and gloved up. Fixed the boiler and sanitised everything they'd touched. That's how things can be done and be as safe as is possible.
What are you on about? Why would I fine you?
My Father is 83, suffers from dementia. I've not been able to hug him since the end of February. Will I see him over Christmas? No.
Hate to break it to you but masks do not guarantee no transmission particularly in indoor spaces. Expecting the elderly to be alone for a year is just unrealistic
You think it’s down to selfishness. What punishment should people get for wanting to see family for one day?
Christ, talk about deflecting the conversation!
Where did I say masks stopped the transmission of COVID? Show me. The fact they wore masks, gloves and sanitized everywhere they'd touched was the point I was making.
Go on deflect again and tell me sanitising isn't a guarantee to stop the spread.
Why is it unrealistic? My parents have been alone since March. My In-Laws have too. As has my neighbour.
It’s more those that have bad symptoms and in need of helpIt’s denying people treatment for serious illness for fear of catching the great asymptomatic virus. Yes I’m being emotional with it I just see and hear the stories and find it baffling .

Its not irrational there are several areas of society where judgements are made regarding deaths and cost benefit analysis is used to see if the cost is worth actually paying. This is on a much bigger scale of course but the argument remains the same
Yep caused by covid though and the consequences of itI understand Pete but we are incurring some fairly monstrous collateral damage in the process.
35383 today is that the 11000 welsh cases
Still up on last week thenThat includes the Welsh backlog - ordinarily they would have been announcing 2000 or so cases, but announced 11,500 so the real UK figure is around 26,000.
Mmmm!will todays news that places with decreasing case numbers not being reduced lead to great restriction fatigue meaning people do more stupid things in the xmas 5 day? Leading to more cases and deaths
Mmmm!
Like Cardiff the other week in had hoards of visitors across the the bridge to take advantage of the lower restrictions in the region.
Yep it’s why they do two tests. Also it doesn’t give many false positives just a high false negativesBig question on Newsnight tonight around a letter to Cabinet regards lateral flow tests and their accuracy or lack of .
It was in a different context to the question of the late late protocol announced for schoolkids in the New year, dated 11thDec from some bigwig.
Don’t let facts cloud your judgement will youThe problem is that covid cuts across absolutely everything, it isn't self contained. You can't just say "we'll let the virus run wild as it kills mostly elderly" because the demand on hospitals from patients elderly or not would completely overwhelm the NHS and lead to all sorts of other treatment being cancelled.
Possibly, the lack of transparency over decision making annoys me, what are the criteria and how are they weighted!?will todays news that places with decreasing case numbers not being reduced lead to great restriction fatigue meaning people do more stupid things in the xmas 5 day? That really would be a Pandora’s box wouldnt it? Don’t get me wrong I’d hate to be making the decisions and it really is a shit storm across Europe. However it does seem other governments see the facts and react where as we take a good look at them, smell them, turn them over and over and then eventually when left without a choice, we make a decisionPossibly, the lack of transparency over decision making annoys me, what are the criteria and how are they weighted!?
Likely. Where’s that?Walked past the local cricket club by me where they seem to be constructing a marquee in the car park. Can't see it being for a function so wonder if it's a covid vaccination centre...
Not in Coventry, I live in DerbyshireLikely. Where’s that?

Tbh though the national average has gone up by a third in a week or two and is far too high, so being below it isn't exactly fantastic. However, the rules should be applied consistently. The local decision in Coventry according to DHSC is based on a perceived increase in cases which is at best very small. The cases in coventry according to them are below the national average and hospital and icu usage is also below the national average.
Anything over 1 in 10000 isn’t good and has been treated as a problem all alongTbh though the national average has gone up by a third in a week or two and is far too high, so being below it isn't exactly fantastic. However, the rules should be applied consistently.
