There is no need to "wobble" on plans to ease coronavirus restrictions, says Prof John Bell, suggesting that immunity from vaccinations could be increasing over time.
The regius professor of medicine at Oxford University says he is encouraged by evidence that vaccines are "holding their own" by reducing the likelihood of hospital admission and death to "very small indeed" after both doses.
"That's what the government is counting on and I see no reason to wobble on that," he tells BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
"The second thing is, our immune responses seem to get better over time. After you've had two vaccines, when you pop back up six months later, your immune system has developed the response to the virus to an even more mature state.
"So, I think, not only have we got good immunity but that immunity may well improve over time. As you know, I'm a sort of a glass half-full guy and I'm sort of three-quarters full at the moment."

If the Guardian has its numbers right on isolations, then millions of us will find ourselves in a tougher lockdown after restrictions end then before. The isolation question is going to be one of the stories of the summer.

Agree. Just move to the testing. Most people will self isolate if positive, a lot of people won’t if just told to self isolate because they’ve been near someone positive (especially if they subsequently tested negative). Get a structure in place to minimise risk and maximise compliance
Ps I’ll go one step further, people will just delete the app (when it’s not needed to get in places) which is far more dangerous

(FWIW if you're going into a pub and wearing a mask, you'll be struggling to drink a pint - which is where the rules were somewhat paradoxical, as no mask is pretty unavoidable in those circumstances!)

Let's be honest, we all want it over and done with! There'll be nobody, *nobody* who thinks what they really enjoy is the feeling of oppression, isolation, threat, discomfort...I honestly don't mean to upset anybody with my posts in this particular thread,I realise it's a bit of a hot potato talking about covid & restrictions etc - guess it's all just frustration coming out about wanting it over & done with - peace & luv to all
So odd. It’s a small sacrifice to make wearing a mask, even if it isn’t pleasant.Nappy - a piece of towelling or other absorbent material wrapped round a baby's bottom and between its legs to absorb and retain urine and faeces.
As a mask neither goes around a babies ass or is there to absorb Urine or Faeces, I think you're probably using an incorrect term.
Your choice though.
The rule whereby in a small high street cafe for example, you can take your mask off to sit down where you're going to spend the majority of your time, and, especially if in company, expel the most virus (if you have it), but you must put a mask on to walk out of the cafe.

In January 2020, I doubt there was anybody making a New Year's resolution where they really longed for a global pandemic to take hold(!)
