Your excuses and deflection for things that the whole country and rest of world can see as glaring problems is not a good look. We've been hearing that things are "about" to be delivered every day- they aren't and they are bullshitting every day about it. But at least you concede after all this time that testing & PPE have been badly managed. Not the time to be playing politics- deal in fact, take the party out of it.
My in-laws have just flown back from Australia. Not sure of the route but it cost them an absolute fortune (and if they say it was a fortune it must’ve been, they flew out first class) and was on standard flights, not specially arranged repatriation flights. Are people being repatriated going into 2 weeks quarantine straight from the plane like Australia or are they just going straight home and carrying on?
Because they’ve taken a different approach to our government. South Korea has barely had to shut down also. They also had cases before we did so really showed the world the way to handle it, just a shame our government knew better and chose not to follow a working model. Still, I probably hate the U.K. and would rather live in Italy so what do I know.Deffo good to see, how come Japan and South Korea have done so well?

America is looking real badYou can already see it in Italy. The uneducated on here hate this graph, but its the best piece of info out there to show things properly- look at Italy. If we want to see whether lockdown is working we have to look at new cases.

So you don’t see the issue with someone stepping of a plane from New York and stepping straight into public transport and mixing with others with no checks for Coronavirus or even symptoms of Coronavirus?Has been for 2-3 weeks mate
What’s the point in quarantining when we already have high numbers here (especially if they’re coming from lower confirmed case country) ? Everyone should self isolate with symptoms anyway and social distance if outside without symptoms

They walked straight through without any sign of anyone being checked for anything and were given no advice about isolation or anything else.

It’s just hysteria apparently. Try telling an Italian or Spaniard that."Whats the point in quarantining when we already have high numbers here"
Is that a serious question?
that would be the same as 10 to 20 thousand here which if true would suggest stricter lockdowns have little impact other then hospital management of patients

Because they’ve tested tested tested and and are continuing to test test test so instead of isolating those that don’t have it from those that might they’ve isolated those that do from those that don’t meaning those that don’t can carry on pretty much as normal, aside from social distancing etc. We don’t know who has it because we’re not testing which means we have to isolate as many people as possible from as many people as possible, hence the strictness of our lockdown. So why are the cases so low if south korea hasn't shut down? Shouldn't they be really high if not action is taken
That’s because you’re an idiot.I don’t really see the need to check them

I traveled through Asia via Dubai during the SARS outbreak and had my temperature taken at every stage of entering and exiting a country except the U.K. We’re now dealing with a far more volatile strain of essentially the same virus and aren’t even taking the measures other countries did during SARS. Our government has paid no attention to history on dealing with this virus and gone rogue against the examples that have been proven to work in living memory. It’s beyond stupid.I did comment about countries with similar cases levels but even so I refer to my previous comments regarding the case numbers here and the measures put in place (would agree with you if we weren’t in lock down). If you were to quarantine each flight, all the airline staff would also have to be put into quarantine. If people are showing symptoms I personally wouldn’t let them on the flight at the other end as they should be self isolating.
ps no excuse for airports not to be providing details of latest government measures when people step off flights (incase they weren’t aware)

Coronavirus lockdown reducing number of people infected by someone with virus - research
The UK's COVID-19 lockdown could be reducing the number of people one person who has coronavirus infects, according to new research.
The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine estimates that before the stringent measures were introduce by the government, one positive person would infect 2.6 other people.
But it says the lockdown means that number could now be just 0.62.
A study by the school describes this number as the reproduction number - the average number of people who will catch a disease from a single infected person.
Keeping this figure below one means the epidemic will decline, according to experts.
Good news? When will the results start to show though?
Sorry can't help them. Only got about a fortnights worth myselfI see the French are worried they won't have enough drugs .
Something like two weeks worth left.
Whatever 'gammon' means.....It means the opposite of ‘gammon’
It’s not possible for anyone to be more wrong! No he won't as his poor communication, lack of ability to get testing and his parties general underfunding of the nhs will count against him.
Definitely would’ve been simpler. I’d wonder how many businesses would’ve still made people redundant with the UBI though ? I believe the scheme is trying its best to allow/encourage businesses to retain staff and mothball for (hopefully only) a three month period
ps not a perfect scheme and there will always be issues with something announced/rolled out quickly. Just hope it’s enough to keep good businesses afloat (in conjunction with any grants for smaller businesses and gov backed loans to plug any short term funding gaps - need banks to step up though !)
Deffo good to see, how come Japan and South Korea have done so well?

Complete guess but both have had virus outbreaks recently and are probably both better prepared and more used to social distancing already. I know SK did a lot of tracking and testing as well.
Looking at the latest graph Italy are now starting to curve we are 2 weeks behind if we can remain stable till then and then drop would be brilliant

Slightly different to quarantining every retuning flight though. Which is what I was responding to.
Even if you do take temperatures on individuals returning, if someone’s got it you’d have to quarantine whole flight, staff etc as you don’t know who’ve they been in contact with. Also it appears that there are potentially large quantities of asymptomatic or mild symptoms cases, in which case temperature taking will be irrelevant for those individuals
Probably the bigger, potentially more useful decision would’ve been surrounding stopping flights altogether from highly infected regions prior to our full outbreak/lockdown here

SK have been spot on to date (only time will tell if they can restrict the spread longer term) and have been the best example of how to handle it from what I’ve seen. They haven’t just taken a different approach to our government though, it’s pretty much different to the whole world.
In terms of the rest of the countries, Germany and Australia appear to have done well to date
