Do you know why fixed term contract staff aren’t being furloughed at jlr?
I'm still waiting to see if I'm on it or not. Had an email yesterday saying we'd be notified in the next couple of weeks. I think the main reason is theres gonna be no production for quite a while. They were due to start building again on the 20th of April but that been put back a few weeks now according to the email yesterday I think cashflow is a major problem. I'm not really clued up on how it all works tbh. I just wanna get back to work.

Do you mean contracted or permanent staff?
If it's anything like my place they will just terminate anyone in a temporary contract
Edit - They released all agency staff and company temporary contract workers before furloughing the rest of us

They wont really want to get rid of anyone at our place as once this shit is over itll be full steam ahead. There's no point in letting people go only to take new people on in a few weeks and train them up etc.

Sorry I meant contractor. Not sure where but think he’s been there a few years
A lot of agency were due to get proper contracts this year. They now have to be with the company 5 years to get a contract(which I dont agree with). We had a big meeting a couple of months ago and they were told they were being let go. They never said when though. I guess with what's going on the company have just decided to release them now maybe? Pretty shitty way to treat people. Your promised a contract after 5 years then when your approaching your 5 year your told your not getting one. I wouldn't wanna be a young un these days starting out.
Edit. That's if this includes your brother in law of course. I'm not sure if there agency at other sites.

He was a Project Engineer Contractor in 'Pneumatics SME for Seat Features' at JLR on a yearly contract. JLR terninated all contractors on Thursday

So that fits in with what you guys were saying

Makes no sense to retain contractors unfortunately. The only positive thing for them is that the IR35 changes were put back, deferring that particular nightmare for a while.

I know there are plenty who hate the idea of translators working in public services but this is a very valid point:

And in pockets of Muslim communities, there is mistrust – or simple unawareness – of government advice. The official NHS website on the coronavirus, which has been prominently plugged during the prime minister’s daily press conferences, is available only in English.

This leaves many minorities whose English is not proficient enough to fully understand medical terms like “quarantine” and “pandemic” reliant on foreign or social media sources for their information

I agree in regard to training, but I'm not sure the furlough scheme covers non permanent employee's, also they will probably be offered the chance to return when things get going again, it's not like there is much for term to move onto in the meantime

5 and a half years in the role

yeah I know, it’s shit, and I am not saying it’s fair one iota, but in this situation what are the options

The govt have had their eye on contractors for ages, the support stopping at 50k is their way of saying to bigger contractors “we know you’ve been avoiding tax for a long time, we’re gonna have to delay IR35, but you aren’t gonna have anything more from us”. Again, not saying it’s right but it’s a fact.

Do you think the same for churches? Gurdwaras?
Or Cheltenham races ?

Hopefully one thing that comes out of all this is this hire them then fire them mentality by companies who’s management making these decisions should probably be first out of the door.

The scheme covers anyone paying PAYE. But what will usually happen is agency, temps, contractors will just be stopped immediately.

On FM20 my next game is away at Wigan in the Championship. Want a match thread?

I've downloaded a level 13 of english footy database in FM20...it's insane,so many teams...some of the team names are hilarious i.e. Jolly Butcher fc,It Is It Is fc - I luv it (I'm manager of Staines & Kevin Gallacher's about to sign for me as a coach)

I heard on local news that Wolverhampton is a bit of a hotspot for this virus, it’s a city in itself but outside of the region is seen as part of the Birmingham conurbation as is Walsall, West Bromwich, Dudley and other towns. To link the spread of this disease to Muslim areas is pathetic but perhaps not a surprise, ask yourselves how many Muslims are there in Italy or Spain.

I wasn’t attempting to link the spread of this virus to Muslim areas, in fact if you
Read my posts you will see I was actually doing the opposite, (See Below)
The post of mine you’ve quoted wasn’t even anything to do with this particular
Argument ‘it was concerning something else entirely.

Also Bradford 135 Leicester 149 and Luton 116 all have sizeable Muslim Community’s but are all
Pretty low in Covid 19 cases compared to similar city’s, all lower than Coventry’s
So I would say the attempt at a tenuous link is a crock of shit.

That's not how I recall that meeting. I'm pretty sure management informed all agency staff coming up to 5 years that they would be extending their service by another 12 months instead of automatically making them up to 'core'.
I don't know what the outcome has been for those agency employees. I'm fortunate in that I've been with the company for 25 years.
