Numerous countries now (temporarily) banning travel from the UK, including some haulage. That's this week, Brexit next. What an utter disaster.
Yes, Dover closed to outbound traffic for 48 hrs, if it is a cover for tougher restrictions it's backfiring monumentally, bbc reporting freight drivers are reluctant to come the other way in case they get stranded.

wonder if that will have any affect on vaccine imports? Utter disaster is right though. When are people in this country going to wise up?

I did my Xmas shop yesterday at Aldi as I normally do on a Sunday. It was noticeably quiet. Expect Tuesday/Wednesday to be crazy.
Morrison's and M&S by me were insanely busy - the queue for M&S was round the car park. Was laughing at all the nutters queuing up and not waiting for a quieter time.

Who's laughing now!

Some countries have blocked us some haven't..
It's almost as if they're acting as independent sovereign states despite being part of a large trading block!!
I see just to cheer us up, a decision on a trade deal will be reached before Christmas. Just combine the coronavirus and Brexit threads, double down on the misery!

I tried to stop at the M&S food hall on the way into work this morning to pick up some butties for me dinner, only to be told you need to pre-book a slot now.....You can't just turn up & join a queue!

.....so a full english breakfast from the local cafe will just have to suffice:)

You're a bit of a bastard. You just inspired me to book a takeout breakfast myself, and my usual go-to places have closed down for Christmas now. Might have to go on a quest...

Go on....you know its makes sense. I'm trying to delay until closer to dinner time......but once you've got it in mind, the hunger grows....

I see taking back control of our borders is going well 🙄

‘Maybe a highly contagious strain of Covid and food shortages which further spoils everyone’s Christmases will teach them’. 🙄

Why people (not just you Bodicote) are tying this to brexit with an ‘I told you so’ attitude is as bad as Farage, Williamson etc on the other side when they were praising us for the (non U.K.) vaccine roll out and suggesting it was because of Brexit. There’s a bit of a difference in countries having extra checks on borders/delays and closing them all together with no notice because of a worldwide pandemic !

If the concerns about this new strain are correct, this could be serious for numerous reasons and not just for us. Everyone closed their borders to denmark when they found the mink strain so it’s understandable until some protocols are put in place....we are just getting our extra dose of shit Covid luck with it being a few days before Christmas. Hopefully on further research/info things will settle down but it’s a bit worrying.

In the meantime there are plenty of genuine issues that could be caused by Brexit and the governments handling of the pandemic to focus on, without trying to lump in the fact that this strain/variant and the ramifications caused, is something we as a country weirdly deserved for voting for either

Ps I will gladly take some of the above rant back if the new strain is some sort of government ruse to justify changing Christmas restrictions (I wish it was/hope it is !) !

edit - just heard port borders with France have reopened which is hopefully the start of some better news ! Fingers crossed
