Just me or is everyone shitting themselves over what just seems to be at worst a flu? We've had this before with SARS and Swine Flu etc.

Some talk that this is a mutation caused by the chinese themselves.

Is anyone worried or is it the usual media scaremongering?

Could all be nothing, but there will one day be a mutated flu virus that wreaks havoc. Just a matter of time. Will be a few more false alarms before then I'm sure, although this seems pretty horrendous for those that have it.

think a bit of context is needed, as the media just want to shit everybody up.

2000 people in China have contracted the virus, China has a population of 1.3 Billion.

A vaccine could take up to 1 year to pass testing and be released...

This is the typical media overblown bullshit.

I think we do need a black death style plague though. Humans are over populating the earth causing untold harm to the planet. A virus wiping out a few billion would be perfectly healthy for our species.

And as the GE and Brexit are sorted, the press have got fuck all to bang on about other than some cold virus and prince fucking Harry!!!

I agree. It's not a matter of if it happens, it's a matter of when and with the close environment of cities most of us live in, ability to travel vast distances very quickly and mutation of bacteria quicker than we can produce new anti-biotics we're probably as close as we've been for a long time.

WHO etc do a great job of stopping things spreading and our sanitation levels are vastly improved (although arguably aid the mutation of bacteria and their resistance) but basic probability tells you it is ultimately inevitable.

I'd much prefer an Inferno style virus which makes a lot of people infertile to get the population down rather than mass deaths and bodies piling up, but that ain't gonna happen.

If you have pathogens in your piss, you need to see a doctor pronto! The cleanliness of your knob is far more relevant to the need to wash your hands. If you shower daily, you are more likely to get contamination on your hands from taps, hot-air driers, flushes, loo seats and door handles.

Just to be pedantic, black death is caused by bacteria. But i take the point! Did you see that Chris Packham programme on Horizon last week - 7.7bn people and counting? Fascinating!

Haha, I have no idea on the science behind it. I commented directly after seeing someone leave a toilet immediately after having a piss. Maybe I was better putting this in the 'things that annoy you' thread.

Shortly after the outbreak in Wuhan, China, a Chinese person arrived by plane in the US and was found to be infected.
They had been visiting Wuhan.

I’m paint spraying a bike at the minute and my other half tried to get a pack of face masks the other day for me. They sold out within 2 days of the virus hitting the news.

I hope the people we are flying back from China are paying for their flights. Best off not going to these dirty type places.

Just gotta hope they find a way to nip it in the bud. They don’t even seem 100% certain of original cause. They’ve only just declared it a global emergency haven’t they.

Spoke to a mate over there today, and he said the government have closed all companies in Kunshan until 10th Feb!
Must be worse than its being reported..
