I wouldn't trust schools to provide healthy food! I still remember being forced eat spam fritters back in the early 90s.

Ah at this school the school lunches are free.

Yep absolutely undeniable, need to feed and sustain the body properly, but sadly as you say the facilities aren’t there for schools, and the parents don’t do enough to help it either.

One of my favourite primary school dinners was luncheon meat, mash and beans. You'd get syrup sponge and custard for pudding, brilliant!
One other big difference to now is that kids just don't do enough exercise; Dropped off to school, might play out at lunchtime, picked up but don't play out at night. 100s of calories not being burnt but probably similar consumption.

I genuinely miss those days. No mobile phones and I used to use my house phone to call my mates.

Walk home from school 30 minutes home and it was "see you down the park in an hour" (no mobiles see) Play football all night and play until sunset. Probably 4 hours a night. Every night also.

As a qualified dietician and personal trainer myself, I have seen it all too much and too often. I don't want to be too controversial as everyone will have their opinion but mine is times have changed and it's more computer technology based with no education mixed in. Everyone has a computer and a phone now hell im even using a phone to post this. People seem to have a lot more stress and less time than they use to although that may be just me. As for the lack of education it is minimal, I like Jamie Oliver stuff in schools and I like slimming worlds etc but there isn't enough at school level and promoted where kids actually learn and become adults.

Take aways are convenient and nice to eat. I recently did a diet plan for a client of mine and I get them to do me a weeks food diary of whatever they eat and the time. Even if it's 3 grapes they have to put it down on the chart. Now I received his back and no word of a lie each night for evening meal was a take away all 7 nights. I was disgusted and told him so. He was embarrassed. I asked and the reason was he can't cook. He is also lazy in general and take aways are easy and delivered to the door. Honestly Monday was an Indian, Tuesday was fish and chips, Wednesday Chinese etc etc. never seen anything like it before.

He is a smart guy and the worse bit was he wasn't even fat so his body as studies prove had become accustomed to shit food and he was processing it normally. Luckily I trimmed him up a bit and educated him more than anything and sure enough he lost almost a stone but it was when he told me how much better he felt and his skin tone improved and mood was improved that are the real eye openers

Anyway that's my 2 pence worth.

I'd be interested to know what he did for a living, as you say he wasn't fat I was wondering if he had a physical job or was he office based.

I don't buy into the excuse that both parents work these days. Both me and the missus worked full time (before retirement) and yet we had a proper cooked meal every day. As for take-aways, I can't remember the last time I had one, probably about 20 years ago. I won't eat processed food at all. Veg has to be fresh not frozen, and I catch my own fish (can't get fresher than that!). As for blokes can't cook, as someone said, that's rubbish. I was never taught at all, yet I'd give some chefs a good run for their money! I do the Sunday roast every week and absolutely love my time in the kitchen!

You were posh................we never even had a home phone, so meetings were set up when parting company the last time or through a payphone for me.
Controversially perhaps I think that in reality 85% of people actually have too much money these days and it aids them to make the wrong lifestyle choices. When I was younger we had to make do with what we had for entertainment and it often meant a group of us with enough equipment collectively to set up an impromptu game of football, tennis or cricket. Food wise, the chip shop was pretty much your only takeaway and we seldom could afford to do that.

Office based so non physical at all. Mind you don't we all know someone who eats and eats and eats and never puts on weight?

Maybe it's genetics and maybe is he a lucky one but he only weighed 13 stone and I got him down to just above 12 so lost best part of a stone in 5 weeks but he had gone from a take away each night to chicken rice and peas every night. Drinking 3 liters of just water a day. Having porridge daily for breakfast. All these things he wasn't doing.

Fair opinion and good for you. It's a case of can't cook and won't cook. The client I posted about couldn't cook so never bothered to learn or do anything about it. His view was why do I have to when delivered to my door is a take away for not that much money. Lazy yes but the desire isn't there to learn sadly.

Good points. Maybe it is a case of "oh how the times have changed" and the classic "back in my day"

Yet the bbc and women would have you think it’s because they were and never are given and equal chance, and that more young women need to be encouraged...

And ofc its a load of bull because then it’s inequality in favour of women.

I'm pretty sure its because the women insist on washing up as they go along, which invariably means that things get overcooked.
