The 'I just want to watch rugby' lot annoy me. Always ask them how many times they have been to see CRFC, yet to have anyone answer saying they've ever been to a game.

Never been to a CRFC match even when they were the top rugby team in England.
Never been to Bedworth rugby either and it's on my doorstep.
My only live rugby was watching Coventry Welsh ladies.
Always liked watching England rugby on the telly and Wasps is the same level including all of the tv replays which add to the occasion.
I don't blame Wasps for the situation we put ourselves in and don't believe we had the clout to run ACL even if Sisu wanted too.
Wasps home matches were never going to interfere with my CCFC matches.
So it was easy for me to give it a go and I'm glad I did as its another afternoon out I can look forward too. Also I'm really into the away matches live on BT.
It's the way it is for me and I know of several others that do both.
I do know some CCFC fans that only do Wasps now but I'm not there yet.

they're not really CCFC fans then are they if they only watch another team playing a different sport?

You don't need to go and watch The team to support them.
just find it strange to refer to people as CCFC supporters when they put their time and effort into watching a different team play a different sport while not bothering with the team they purport to support!

. I don't get that you watch wasps, (just my opinion), but would always consider you a CCFC supporter because you go and actually support the team.

Many ccfc fans don't go, many city fans watch other sports be it rugby, speedway, ice-hockey, they are different sports ffs! I remember back in the 70s plenty of us use to go from Highfield Road to watch the Bees, what's the problem with that ?

Well, if things stay the same , I can see alot more fans turning to United , me included .

A lot will say they will go to make a bull shit point like you but none will. Who the fuck are they anyway? They will never replace CCFC it's a bullshit theory.

Much longer than that, it was the works team of the Armstrong Siddeley company. The Sphinx is the company figurehead and was mounted on their car radiators.

I was thinking Sphinx must have connections to Armstrong Siddeley because of the name. I think it was the early 60's when the last car came out of Parkside so I wouldn't be surprised if the club is well over 50 years old.

It's up to CCFC to provide entertainment that people want to see. Particularly when there is competition. I'm lucky I can afford to do what I want, so I do both.
If you have limited resources you may be forced to choose.

exactly, went to Highfield Rd then to Bees!
If you exclusively watch one sport but proclaim to support a team that plays a different sport that you don't bother with then I find it peculiar. As I said, it's my opinion, people can do or say what they want, but if I spent my time and money watching wasps and didn't bother with city, I'd describe myself as a wasps supporter!

How did you fit in the stadium with the 5 million?*

*That is a joke about the attendance, nobody should be flying in going off their tits. Relax!

Wasn't he a centre half? I'm sure he will be along soon to tell us.
must have been in the days of the heavy leather ball, sticking his head on it for 90 minutes.
Something must have made him the way he is!!
In fairness, he must have been decent, Cov Sporting weren't a bad side.

I was young but I have some memories of the games. When they beat Tranmere it was a real story.

No need for any precedent to be set, the stadium is currently used for paying spectator sport and has a capacity I think of 4000 might be more. That door has been shut now sisu must look elsewhere, perhaps that other site Fisher has up his sleeve.

Why is the door shut?

Hardly, I watched a football game there back in the 1960's. It was a Coventry XI vs a Rest of the League XI. Might have been a testimonial. I forget the details, Football has been played there many times in the past.

I recall watching a game one Sunday afternoon eons ago. Might have been the same one

Still pissed off that they're not called VS Rugby anymore

Agree, didn't agree to the change to rugby United let alone rugby town. Could run a thread on poor ownership there at rugby town not quite sisu standard but close. Another club who don't listen to there fans

Coventry Sporting-Kirby Corner Road ;) played Rugby next door when Earlsdon Rugby Club was based there, until Warwick Uni brought the land and built on it. They had a nice stand and my brother in law played centre half at at Coventry Sporting. The kerb is still dropped on the former entrances to the grounds of both Coventry Sporting and Earlsdon Rugby Club on Kirby Corner Road ;).

Coventry Sporting were a thriving club back in the day. That FA cup run was brilliant where they beat Tranmere Rovers 2-0 at Highfield Road and lost in the next round to Peterborough again at HR, I remember lots of aggro that day with
Peterborough fans being chased out of West End across the pitch to the Kop end, which spoilt things. Sporting got into financial difficulties not long after and got swallowed up
by the expanding Warwick University

I was there for that one too. Stood in the West End and I think the Peterborough fans thought they would have the whole terrace to themselves. Bit of a surprise for them when so many Cov people turned up:)

And there's a lesson for Coventry football.

I remember playing against Valley Sports in the Rugby & District League.

They were a very well run, ambitious club. I had the impression, at that time, that the old Rugby Town were not well run despite being in a much higher league. I even thought at the time that VS would overtake them.

Well Rugby Town folded and VS flourished ......
