Very sad news - I've only ever used it once to fly to Paris but it was quite a nice little airport! Reading about it today, I only just found out that Thompson stopped flying out of there in 2008?! And that since then it's just been used for specialist stuff and cargo holding/flights etc. But with the winding up order in place, you've got all those members of staff who's jobs are at risk. I caught a glimpse in the Telegraph this evening however that a consortium type group is being set up by the owners of some of the other businesses that use the airport, to take it over and keep it running etc.
I think the big discussion is whether the Council (Warwickshire rather than Coventry apparently!) were to blame for denying planning permission etc to build another run way? Would that have helped it compete with Birmingham Int and East Midlands? Who knows - I just hope, like Nick said, that's its not being sold of for housing development. Wouldn't surprise me if whoever sat on the board of people who decided to close it etc was a shareholder in a major housing firm!!!
