Hi all,

Ipswich fan here (don't even go there).

Congratulations on your comprehensive 3-0 win this coming Saturday.

I'm a kit designer and have worked with a number of clubs on their kits for next season. A few of them can't be announced just yet but I've just worked with Puma on next seasons Darlington kit amongst others.

As part of a project I'm putting together home and away kits for every league side and non league side. These are usually original concepts that are partly influenced by old favourites. It's your turn and I'm looking to update the 1993 shirt famously worn by Micky Quinn (I still can't get over his run of goals).

Before I do, is this an absolute classic, marmite or loathed? As a neutral I have always loved it. I've also looked at the 97-98 shirts, Subaru with the white panel down the side and sky blue with navy fading stripes and the sky and navy shirt with the badge in it from the season before.

I also want to update either the red and navy checked shirt (as worn by Chelsea!) or something green and black that moves away from stripes. I also like the thought of yellow and purple but as with all these kits I have learned it's best to ask the fans. It's amazing what kits are aesthetically pleasing to neutrals but are despised by the fans as they bring back certain memories.

Any feedback on the kits I've mentioned from 93 and 97-98 would be great as the 1993 one is quite time consuming to get right and the last thing I want to do is spend hours on it only to find it's univerally hated by you all!

Cheers

Is the 1993 one the sky blue and white speckled one? Can't say I was a fan of that, Similar in design to Norwichs "Bird Shit kit" of the same era.
The 97-98 one was a great kit, But the darker blue circle on the back made it look a bit odd without a number and name on the back.
The Navy and red Chequered shirt was probably my favourite ever away shirt until this seasons 2 tone 3rd kit was launched.

my favourite was the sky blue version of the chocolate kit

That and this years for me. Wasn’t really keen on the speckled one. Away kits; liked the green and black as well as this years third kit. Red and blue chequered board was pretty good.

How about showing us the kits you are talking about?
I have no idea what the 1993 or 1997/8 kits were.
However, generally, I dislike anything all sky blue, anything brown or grey. Not too keen on green either.
Don't care for speckles or weird curved stripes.
I like a mix of sky blue and white or sky blue and darker blue.
For away kits, love any combination of yellow and black or yellow and dark blue.
I love our current 3rd kit, which I think is brilliant.

Everyone loves the two tone third kit! I would love to see the club retain it. It looks very cool and adds to the stature of a player somehow. I bet the players love it too.

The third kit is great....but I really like the home kit best.
I had the original Hummel shirt, probably my favourite (or, for nostalgia, the Terry Gibson glazepta shirt as it was the first I had)!
Or maybe.... We've had some great kits.

In the end I decided to crack on with 1992-94.

You’ll never top this seasons kits so I’ve updated your old home shirt and created an away shirt from it.

Those are pretty good, i like the home kit in particular. The 95/96 away shirt is one id like to see again, probably as it was the first one i had bought for me and i love a good 'ugly' kit!

I quite liked the 93 ones tbh, very vibrant sky blue as well. I liked the bird shit away one as well and the yellow and navy kit from the following season.

Wasn't keen on the 94 to 96 one that was a paler sky blue nor the 96-98 navy blue / sky blue effort because it was too dark.

However, the away tops in those eras were better: green and black stripes, purple and yellow v1, the Croatia chequered kit, the all white away kit and the purple and yellow v2.

Even though I said I did not think we are a red shirt team, I quite like this design.
It could look good with sky blue and dark blue checkers.
