He is always going to be a popular player because his best attributes (work rate; running at defenders) are classic crowd-pleasers

But surely they’re good attributes to have in a player? If all of our players did that then I’m sure we’d not be hovering just above the relegation zone. I don’t want to come across as Saka’s No. 1 fanboy but he does stretch defences and his work rate and agility is impressive, I sort of think he’s a crowd pleaser for a reason.

I’m not overly optimistic when it comes to predicting Cov wins but I’m feeling a confident 2-0, 2-1 or 3-1 on Friday night. I think we’ll score at least 2 and keep their chances limited - unless Robins pulls out another stunner and puts Ayari as lone striker alongside Eccles LW whilst O’Hare plays CDM.

(Watch us lose 3-0 now I’ve just jinxed it…)

I agree that our forwards still aren’t on their A-game but I still think the midfield is to blame for a lot of missed chances. So many times you’d see the ball get to the final third only for the last pass to be a really shit one and either the ball gets intercepted or the striker is then running away from goal making the chance harder to score than it needed to be. If we can put multiple chances on a plate for Simms and Wright then I reckon we’ll beat Birmingham easily.

We need to create chances like Ipswich did against us, quick through ball along the ground, not bobbling around at chest height, give our strikers several of those in a game and I’ve absolutely no doubt we’ll score at least 2 goals per game.
When the midfield have put "chances on a plate" presume you mean 6 yards out for both Haji and Simms they have wanted 1 extra touch and even then hit it straight at the keeper. One on ones Haji has had a few and not scored them. These things will come IMO it's confidence their lacking , 2 apiece on Friday would help.As for the midfield some of the passes they have put through have been great and some millimetres away from giving these "on a plate " chances. We are getting there think positive.

Both are true - we've had games where the strikers should have done better (Godden @ Leicester; Wright @ Millwall) & where we have been really good at working the ball into the final 3rd and then lacked an incisive pass from midfield (Swansea; Stoke; Rotherham).

Brain fart moment for me..... In between carrying out the dog walking, getting ready to take my stepfather to the pub at a different time, due to tonight's match, I thought back to last night's Everton v Newcastle game and wondered 'which Championship game are they showing tonight?:unsure::unsure::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Sort of dreading tonight. There was fighting outside the turnstiles for blocks 14/15/16 in the 21/22 season. That was when that area was less congested with queues. What will it be like this time?…

To be fair, it was very congested that night. This time there are the bars etc. Plenty of police about. I wouldn't worry.

Must’ve just been wrong place, wrong time. Like any other time it starts with Johnny concrete mouthing off for a reaction and a mug nearby taking the bait.

I’ll be properly disappointed if we lose to Rooney’s Birmingham tonight, we’re a better team with a better manager, we should be winning at least 2-0 imo.

Also if Wright, Simms and Saka aren’t the front 3 then I’ll be quite concerned (obviously unless there’s an injury), I think most of us agree that that should be our front line and the midfield and defence that won against Plymouth should return. Realistically I can’t see a team sheet other than:

Collins
Van Ewijk, Thomas, Kitching, Bidwell
Eccles, Sheaf, Allen
Sakamoto, Simms, Wright

I think the team just picks itself this week, I feel it’s a dead easy call to make tbh.

@Saddlebrains any team news this week?

Slight tangent but relevant to “Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham”.

Notice how it’s just “Burnley” now they’re shit? Sky make me sick.
