Drop him for who though? It's weird with Godden. I am always happy when he scores and I really want him to do well but for some reason, despite his goals over the years, I have never regarded him as a hero or a favourite. I can't put my finger on why that is. I think maybe others are the same. He's definitely a good finisher but maybe it is those games when he isn't involved which colour my opinion. I also agree that 5 league goals and being second top scorer in the division makes him worth his place. If he goes another 3/4 games without a goal or assist then maybe we can consider dropping him but injuries aside I doubt that will happen.
You think we're buying a striker in January?Drop him for who though?
There isn't another striker who is good enough to replace him, and I can't see that changing before January.

No idea, but there won't be a better striker here before then, that's for sure. You think we're buying a striker in January?

Its mainly his lack of pace that hampers him, I'm not his greatest fan but he's better than Wright atm so at least until his next injury he has to play.16 of those goals were not scored in the championship. He averages 8 or 9 goals per season in the championship, including some pens.
With very few assists.
At the minute I’d certainly play him ahead of Wright. He’s certainly earned that. But he has plenty of flaws in terms of being a good team player.
He doesn't help himself by cupping his ears when he scores. Never a good look and certainly doesn't endear him to the doubtersIt's weird with Godden. I'm not sure they'll be as keen to chuck our record signing in the bin as you seem to be.No idea, but there won't be a better striker here before then, that's for sure.
Ah yes , all league 1 strikers score 31 in 90 games at Championship levelWell we were not killed in the stampede of championship clubs looking to prize him away when we spent £10m on 2 strikers. Lg1 Derby was the only rumour.
Godden is a very good championship finisher and a lg 1 all round striker.
When he’s fit and firing his goals make up for the other deficiencies …. When he’s not firing he’s a passenger. That’s why he divides opinion.
I'm not suggesting they bin him, I'm saying he's not about to take Godden's place.I'm not sure they'll be as keen to chuck our record signing in the bin as you seem to be.

And this season - more important than last season and the season before because it's, well, now - he's joint 4th highest scorer in the division.Ps. Godden was #41 on the Chanoionship striker list last season and #22 the year before.
That’s an interesting comparison .
The game has moved on so much from then. Micky couldn’t run but neither could the defenders he played against !.
Totally with you. Bar Gyo, I'd say he's literally been our best striker in the last 10/15 years in my opinion. Yes his injury record hasn't been great but his goals/assists per game ratio is decent.Ah yes , all league 1 strikers score 31 in 90 games at Championship level
I can't wrap my head around the nonsense you're spouting tbh
"Goddens running is conference , his left leg is super liga , his heading is Scottish prem "
The way people bend the rules to try and say godden is shit , is frankly hilarious
They don't understand football , simple really
Il die on this hill , matty godden is better than some of our wanky fans give him credit , and is a solid championship striker , his record for us is very good
And PPS...only McSheffrey and Gyo have scored more goals at this level than Godden for the club.Ps. Godden was #41 on the Chanoionship striker list last season and #22 the year before.
Tbh its literally Robins' job to ensure Wright turns out to be a better player than Godden. There's no way the signing was sanctioned with the plan being he sits behind Godden on the bench. Same with Simms tbf.I'm not suggesting they bin him, I'm saying he's not about to take Godden's place.
And I can't see Wright and Simms starting together until Godden is injured.
It's worth mentioning that both of Simms goals at QPR, where from efforts that didn't require him to think, maybe he's better when he doesn't have time to make a decision.
Tbf, it's Wrights job to ensure Wrights better than Godden. I'm happy to cut him slack - new country, new way of playing, new team etc etc etc but Goddens earning his starting place. MR can coach Wright all he can but Wright needs to put the ball in the back of the net.Tbh its literally Robins' job to ensure Wright turns out to be a better player than Godden. Well yes it's on Wright a bit too obviously but we don't spend that money on players, if Robins can't get a tune out of him I'm sure King will ask questions and worryingly might not be that keen to hand him that kind of cash again.Tbf, it's Wrights job to ensure Wrights better than Godden. We can't be dropping an inform goal-scorer for a player because if the size of the price tag (which I know isn't what you were saying).
And I'm not castigating any of our strikers - I think Godden has been and continues to be a great striker for us and doesn't deserve to be dropped and I'm excited for the futures of both Wright and Simms and hope they'll both be great signings for us.
...and as we all know Robins called Simms out preseason and said he needed to work on it and then dropped him from the team.To be honest , won't be long until the same is being said about Simms, very similar strikers that prefer to be fed in the box .. but as we all know that's not acceptable
It isn't Godden hate. He knows where the back of the net is. But last game other than waving his arms about he didn't do much more. One of the times he waived his arms about at Simms there was no chance of getting the ball to him. Whereas Simms caused them problems. The same limitations are evident in ellis simms using this logic , had less touches than godden Saturday, a worse pass completion ratio , less ball recoveries , won less aerial duels, but scored 2 .. had he not scored would fans like yourself have said its like playing with 10 men ? Probably not because you're bloody clueless about it all .. it's nonsense
Move on from the matty godden hate , it's fucking boring , he plays for the team , the manager like him so get over it
You’d think it would be ok depends how close to kick off thoughDoesn’t justify its own thread and the ticket office/club twitter are ignoring me.
My daughter wants to use her JSB voucher to bring a mate for a quid on Saturday. If I get there early and go the ticket office tonight will they be able to sort it?
I’m sure I saw somewhere once that they only deal with match tickets for that particular fixture on match-days but may have imagined it or it may have been during one of the many season ticket fiascos.
What EXTRA problems did simms cause astute ?It isn't Godden hate. He knows where the back of the net is. But last game other than waving his arms about he didn't do much more. The one good thing about Godden other than goals is his coaching of the striker he plays with. But I would have taken him off and not Simms. One more goal for Simms would have been half the goals Godden had scored all season in one game.
Heard a rumour there might be a very pleasant addition to the bench tomorrow

Where do you find these out of interest?Per 90 minute played , couldn't be more similar if we tried , like playing with 9 men View attachment 32017
Sqwawka comparisonWhere do you find these out of interest?
We can only use 5 anyway.Would be a waste of a sub as he would obviously not play.
Yes let's give him time. He has shown in sort bursts real talent. He looks better than Gyokeres did at this stage in his time with us.I was starting to think that maybe Wright just wasn't a very talented forward, and the goals he scored were in a poor league. But after watching Galatasaray last night, I don't think the Turkish league is as bad as I thought it was, so if Wright scored 29 in 60 there must be a good goal scorer there.
We can only use 5 anyway.
I am not advocating putting O'Hare in there until he is close to full fitness but I think it would be concerning if Robins was genuinely prepared to bring on any of nine players. That's why I feel two of the places on the bench should usually be reserved for youth players to get experience of being part of the matchday squad. A little down the line O'Hare on the bench although unlikely to come on might provide a boost to the team and crowd.
So we should take off the player who has less of the ball but creates more chances and scores 2 goals over the player who has more of the ball and scores no goals? What EXTRA problems did simms cause astute ?
Godden does the same and scores 2 he's anonymous
He had less touches than godden , less ball recoveries meaning goddens chasing the lose balls , a worse pass accuracy, less passes into the final 3rd , less headers won ?
I'm curious , il genuinley debate people if their points make sense but right now I'm hearing an awful lot of waffle on here
Was it like playing with 10 men with Simms Saturday, infact 9 if you count goddens customary shit performance ?
The answer is no
Exactly so we don't need all 9 to be real options and as I say it would seem odd if Robins was that indecisive that any of them could come on (and he clearly isn't).Yeah but how often does Mark Robins use 5 subs ?
Obviously I am a bit biased haha, but Haji will come good. I will be the first to say I thought he would have more goals by now, mind. He is very strong on the ball and on defenders and need's to use that a bit more. I think he comes good, but no at this point does not deserve to start.
