There are so many out of contract players that this is the way footy is these days. Every club releases a load of players at the end of the season and a new load come in on freebies.
Plenty of fish in the sea but picking the pearls is the key.

It sounds like to me while the group is small he is really getting to do a real good evaluation on individuals in the squad,, with this any brought in he will see quickly if they are better than what he has already.. Smart to be honest because so many players are still looking for clubs as free agents,,that he can then pick the best players in positions he needs.
I would assume another RB, RM and 2 FW if we can afford them... Interested to see how Harries, the twins, Stevenson and Lawton get on, would like to see at least 2 step up and play a good few games, next season...
I Don't understand everyone obsession with a new RB. We have Phillips & Willis with the twins and Rickets who can also play there. The money needs to be spent on 2 solid CM 2 quick wingers and 3 new strikers first.
Phillips had a bad couple of games but I think he is a far better bet than Haynes at left back

I'm happy with Phillips at rb if he stays fit

Out of the 5 players you named at RB only two are 1 twin and Phillips,, Willis has played there but he is one of the better cb's we have at the club.. I think TM is waiting to see how C Thomas, Lawton, Finch or Stevenson develop before going to CM, i do agree wide players and FW are needed...
For me, Phillips should be 1st choice right back this season. As previous posters have mentioned Willis and one of the twins can also play there. Willis alongside Ricketts would also suit me with Stokes at left back. It doesn't appear that Johnson will be staying unfortunately so Martin and Haynes will act as back up. We could probably do with another body, securing Pennington would go a long way to giving us a solid back line.
Having 3 relative young players in the defence would increase the need to have an experienced head between the sticks, I just cannot get on board with Burge being number 1, which a lot won't agree with.
A quality goal scoring midfielder is something we've missed for years and I certainly think we are due any surprises from anyone within our current ranks. JOB and Swanson will also need backup and to be pushed so arguably another 2 wingers could be required on this basis.
The gaping hole is up top, I just hope that TM has several irons in the fire who are all able to contribute 15+ plus.
If only we could have afforded and attracted Billy Sharp. Great signing for Sheff Utd
Cannot believe we are talking about missing out on buying Billy Sharp for £500K.
a. We cannot compete with Sheffield Utd in terms of fanbase, attendance or budget - facts and attendances back this up.
b. We cannot afford £500k in current climate on one player with squad as is we need to invest more wisely.
c. Billy Sharp is a northern lad and has never really strayed to far from north in his career.
d. Sheffield United will be a bigger club than Coventry in most neutral football players eyes.
He is getting a little older and has had more trouble in recent times with injury too would be nice to sign
if money was no object and we could get in bidding war with Sheff Utd.....however the cold hard case of reality is that we cannot.
I cannot get upset about a transfer with no potential of us ever winning it in the first place!!
It's a bit of a pointless comment then really but ok I'll join in if only we could of afforded or attracted Lionel Messi......sigh!!!
